The obelisk does seem like it would fit better with what you're going for with the castle plans and how close that area will be to everything, but a rusty old boiler left over from the Before Times would also be cool. Maybe working in some steampunk elements with other parts of the build would let you still do something like that in a better location, even if they wouldn't have the hot water facilities without a little creative action. I'm looking forward to the mounts and boats with the update, when it happens, too. Some friends and I are always going on adventures to find things to plunder with the Better Ruins mod, and I'll be eagerly seeking out whatever new dungeon or location gets added for the story update. I love the lore in this game.
@Solstin
@Solstin 6 ай бұрын
Yeah, if I can't figure out a way to make steampunk elements blend well with the castle and obelisk right there then at least the proper workshop design built into the mountain will lend itself to that! I'm also excited for mounts, can't wait to see what all there'll be, both in vanilla and through mods!

Solstin scolding rooster for over-crowing : “Do you just see the sun’s pillows and blankets (clouds) and think, ‘Ah, my time has come’ ?” Great boiler room build! Suggestion: Instead of wood plank fences, perhaps iron bars (like those found in certain large, locust-infested ruins) would give you a better view of drifters in the hot water. Also, a lightning rod(s) would be good to protect your chickens from lightning strikes-Kurazarrh lost two different batches of chickens to lightning, and after the first loss he assumed that foxes or wolves had killed the chickens through the single fence line, then turned his chickens area into Fort Knox, but still lost the second batch of chickens. That was when he noticed that each time there had been a nasty thunderstorm with much lightning in his farm area. Kurazarrh had no further losses of chickens after installing the lightning rods. 😁
@Solstin
@Solstin 6 ай бұрын
I would have preferred iron fences for sure, but they're not craftable and I haven't gone to the furniture trader to check. I doubt I'd have enough gears to get enough at this point yet. I can always plug up the water flow later on and go in for renovations once we have more rusty gears! As for lightning rods, I'll definitely have to get to making some before populating the chicken coop!

Haha! Seems like the Rotwalker mask may have had an effect on the steam you breathe whilst you're in there 57:17 LOL The boiler room is a thing of great invention! And juicy loot too, what a great way to deal with the storms, genius! One must take care not to become the monsters one fights though. . . heh heh ehhhh EDIT: just realized I'd actually caught up to present day! argh no more videos to binge, but I can vote on the structure, definitely obelisk. Really wish some of these hot springs were cooler (or could be piped into tubs) and could be used as an outdoor steam bath area, that could be a really gorgeous build and a nice counterpoint to the Black Tower of Death
@Solstin
@Solstin 6 ай бұрын
Haha yeah, the steam in there might have some corrupting mold to be taken care of! For the steam bath idea, I think the closest we could (safely) do would be to pretend the water is warm, or have it flowing in places so it makes particles to mimic steam!

My Eisenholm First Year Review! The year ending on episode 11 just feels WEIRD! 12 EP for 1 Year ingame just feels right! I used to play minecraft vanilla and graduated to modded Minecraft and when that got too old for me to want to play, I stumbled on a Vintage Story video by a great youtuber (who i am subscribed to) called Private Lime! His videos convinced me to buy the game, and yours have inspired me to actually play seriously. For the first night i was on the edge of my seat! Then along came some incredibly well-crafted videos and a fun experience! Youve had me captivated since the dugout was did done dug-out. I agree with 12 episodes feeling like it would have made more sense, but that could also be due to most shows these days having an 8 or 12 episode season! I probably could have split this one into two episodes, one for the boiler room and another for terraforming and pathing, but once I needed more dirt to fill in around the boiler room I kind of just kept going!

@@Solstin Alternatively, you could build it up into a tower. At the top make a small room and stick a clock on the outside. You could say historically that when Eisenholm was first settled in the days of earthworks and pallisades that tower was the first stone structure built. As a lookout and later as the home of a minor lord before it just stood there in the middle of town and got repurposed as a clock tower. Alot of European cities do that with old towers. Lol change bulk key... I had to set that to B because I kept fat fingering Z instead of X to swap tongs to my hand to put away... there's really no need to have such a quick on the fly access key to change bulk settings, B is further and B-ulk so duh... xD Also there's a mod called Tree Tapping that adds a copper sprew and when crafted with a bucket makes a tapping kit. The tapping kit can be attached to a resin scar on a tree and it collects resin over time and a slightly increased rate. Instead of 1 every 8 day you get 6 every 2-3 days or so, it makes a big difference and takes the struggle of resin out if the equation for mechanical materials. The slow and low rate of resin I feel is a bit cruel considering we can't "scar a tree" to produce resin, so this mod kinda makes sense from an IRL standpoint. A tapped tree produces more resin than a scarred tree unless its a massive and possibly fatal scar and well we can't scar trees we grow. That being said I feel the tree tap is an OK vanilla esk mod (cuz vanilla is kind of about irl processes of survival)

I vote boiler! I prefer playing into the "ancient technology" aesthetic this game has going for it, versus the more "fantasy" or cult aesthetic of an obelisk
@Solstin

There'll be plenty of ancient technology for the proper workshop for sure!

Make it a Boiler Tank, and connect it to a tavern, so then that it might look like its boiling hops for beer or something to that affect.
@Solstin
@Solstin 6 ай бұрын
I don't think I'll have a tavern close enough for that, but I definitely like that idea and might have to make a big ol boiler tank on the side of a tavern!

It's definitely overdue! The last few episodes have taken longer than I had hoped to complete, so I haven't wanted to add yet more production time to them, but I think a SolSaysWhat segment in the kickoff to our second in-game year would be appropriate :)
@suddenlyboop1815
@suddenlyboop1815 6 ай бұрын
🤔 could you combine the two ideas? Maybe there's an ancient obelisk that was put there by some long dead civilization. Then the pre rot village that settled here added a bunch of pipes and boilers to the obelisk to take advantage of the hot springs thermal energy? Maybe that's way too much chiseling 😅
@Solstin

It's definitely an idea that I'll explore in my design testing world!

It's been a fun year! I would like to offer, rather than chicken chasing, the liberal implementation of baited basket traps. It *may* keep you a little more stable a little longer.
@Solstin
@Solstin 6 ай бұрын
Using basket traps would likely be the better way to relocate chickens, yeah! As fun as chasing chickens is, that ramp will be a challenge to chase them up!

Im too late but something out of Frostpunk like a small Generator or Steam Center would have been great as a boiler room design, but also really expensive in materials im sure
@Solstin
@Solstin 9 күн бұрын
Depending on the complexity, probably pretty expensive, yeah lol Two very large projects have really taken my focus lately, so even though I have the design ready to go, I haven't actually finished decorating the boiler room just yet! Lots of castle and workshop building, though!

Yeah, the obelisk is definitely the way things are going :) I'll likely end up keeping the super industrial steampunk stuff hidden away in the reclaimed pre-fall-of-civilization workshop and places like that!

@Solstin
@Solstin 6 ай бұрын
The next one is focusing heavily on laying out the footprints of several buildings so we've got a blueprint for how everything will start to fit together! A part of me wishes there was a colorful, easy to get block similar to wool from the other block game, just to make the planning stage more visually distinct from the natural landscape, haha

@Solstin
@Solstin 6 ай бұрын
Glad you're liking the videos! I was trying to stick to roughly once a week for uploads, but as the things I'm doing in-game have started requiring more grinding for materials and time to work on designs, it's started to move into the realm of a couple weeks per video. I'm hoping to get things back to a more consistent upload schedule but between full-time work, D&D campaigns, and other married life obligations, I don't have a set upload schedule. The videos kind of just get uploaded when I manage to get them done for now!
