These poor, mostly unregulated open markets are premuch similar across Central and South America and the Caribbeans. People are walking down the market corridors and moving goods around. People tend to be feeling dulled or unlifted in their life. The whole scene is very much similar to those poor cities-to name a few- of Philadelphia, Detroit, or Memphis in the US if you're walking into the poor ghetto, rundown commercial blocks, or district, and neighbors where just in the outskirts of central cities.

São João de Meriti is not part of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It is a satellite city which is part of the greater metropolitan area. it is actually one of the poorest.
