Hey man, great video. I noticed you dont change the octaves of your basses within serum, is it better to leave them and play in the octave you want in your daw? Just trying to figure out why you've decided to do that
@TMechMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hey, I usually drop the octave I'm playing (hitting 'z') in Ableton, rather than changing the octave of the oscillators in Serum. I don't think it matters which way you do it with Serum, whereas in some synths the filter cutoff is set to track the incoming note, so lowering the oscillator octave has a different effect than playing a lower note. But yeah, I tend to just play a lower note rather than drop the octave of the oscillator lower.

@ T-Mech Music if you were to finish this up, do you separate the subs from the original patches? And if so, how do you go about doing that?
@TMechMusic4 жыл бұрын
Oh mate, just saw that the reply I wrote never showed up here! Sorry! I would probably keep the sub from this patch, and not bother with a seperate sub. For this style I would mainly just have this one bass, so I wouldn't bother using a dedicated sub. I would do that if I had multiple basses that I wanted to use, and didn't want to have to pay attention to levels. I'd just drop in the basses I want, hi-pass them all, and then add a new sub underneath - that way I can just mix the mid-basses and know the sub is always consistent, no matter what is going on above it. Hope that makes sense and helps, even if it is late! :)
@rushone20104 жыл бұрын
@@TMechMusic thanks man. I've always struggled with making my subs consistent with my mid basses and there really not much resources that discuss this for dnb out there. Thanks for the reply!
@TMechMusic4 жыл бұрын
If you have a close listen on headphones to some tunes you like, sometimes you can hear that the sub doesnt move ‘with’ the midbasses. Those are usually the ‘replaced’ sub tunes. I feel like I recorded a little bit about that in a video but not 100% sure. I’ll add ‘replacing a sub’ as a video idea to my list :)
@rushone20104 жыл бұрын
@@TMechMusic Ya I notice it all the time, but some just flow perfectly separated which I hear as well. I've been making dnb for 10 years now and I still feel like I barely know anything lol.

Great video, but skipped over the important bits at the end, so I have a completely different sound, so defeats the object of the video. Something that most of these videos all do. Skip over vital parts of information.
