Every one of the members of this Band, are in the upper echelon, of whatever their specific craft is. Richie Blackmore is easily one of the top guitarists in Rock/Blues history. Same for the lead singer and organ player. They are just one of the best "Classic Rock" era Bands.

No we do not have that individuality, in music today my friend. I'm a tad older than you, and am a musician, but even young, we could hear the individuality in the instrumentation and guess who was playing drums, or bass, or Hammond B3 by the tones they used and how they played. It was real singing with real instrumentation, and real creativity in Rock, Soul, Fusion, Blues, Country, you name it. I don't care that I'm that "you kids get off my lawn" guy, but music for the most part sucks today. No personality, no depth in lyrics, or musicianship, and no soul. Thanks for reacting to this, I'll be checking back to see where you go to next. Peace!

I'm amazed that you seem to know so much about guitars, but don't know Deep Purple?? Their song _Smoke on the Water_ is the first riff practically all guitarists learn. And Ritchie Blackmore is pretty damn iconic. Anyway, glad you've discovered them now. They are my all-time favorite band! *DEEP PURPLE fun fact:* ---------------- How's this for an interesting statistic... Deep Purple has put out at least one album in each of the last seven (7!!) decades that charted at #20 or higher, somewhere in the world. The first to reach a Top 20 spot was released in 1968, and the most recent was released in 2020. Each of those points is remarkable alone, but combined it's absolutely awe-inspiring! Starting in the late 60s, through 2021, Deep Purple has released 22 studio albums, the last of which just dropped November, 2021.

Ian Gillan on vocals was a trip in itself (he did stage version Jesus Christ Superstar) then Paicey on drums made your heart beat 10xs, but Jon Lord, their classically trained organist & Ritchie Blackmore also classically trained turned heavy metal hard ROCKERS were the backbone of this extraordinary & legendary group 💜💜💜💜💜

Love your reaction and the song !! I remember when it came out shortly after High School. I'm 73 yrs. young. Ian Gillan was the star in the original "Jesus Christ Superstar", I consider him one of the Best Lead singers "ALL-TIME" !! Richie Blackmore is playing his Mid-60's Gibson ES-335, which he modified himself with the Bigsby Tremolo, but around 1971 he switched to playing Fender Stratocasters, which he still plays today. Keep up the good work.

If you was waiting for a big kapow in the playing of the instrument 's ,I don't think it would be in this particular song ,if you noticed the tone ,it was a sad tone that complimented the theme of what the song was about ,as the whaling of the vocals it signified the frustration of war ,these songs can not be compared to others!..🤦‍♂️ Deep Purple is an iconic group!..😎

That video is fine for a fan of the band, but for someone new to Purple it's not filmed well and has a terrible mix (vocals too loud and dry). The best thing he can do is listen to the magnificent Made In Japan album, it can't be beat for sound or performance.

DEEP PURPLE, "CHILD IN TIME". During the time of social change from political parties crap. Too the speaking up of young generation who used music through the British Invasion of the 60's. Leading to the greatest Concert in 1969 "WOODSTOCK". Those Groovy Bands stamping their uniqueness, and sounds throughout the Decade. Leading to the Far Out 70's. I'm a little older, and I watched those grades of the 60's into my teens of the early to mid 70's. Into young adulthood of 80's . The Music throughout those years.. Were Brand New, Song after song. Hell, despite getting older with every passing day. 🎵 Musically I wouldn't change a damn thing. 🎶 Rock On Forever ✌, more DEEP PURPLE, "HIGHWAY STAR", "LAZY", "SPACE TRUCKIN", "HUSH", "MY WOMAN FROM TOKYO".

My guitar repertoire consists of 3 Deep Purple songs this being one. Plus I was taught this one and Smoke on The Water on the drums . Love Deep Purple always..... When we were young in the 70's a lot of us were very mellow due to what we'd smoked earlier and just wanted to chill out to our favourite bands. Never on stage though it was usually glasses of water slipped to us lol, we weren't allowed to mellow out. These guys are magic though. They didn't have the earplugs they have now when you were singing you had to drown out some of the music as best you could. It's why a lot of us have hearing problems today....Thanks Mat you're the best ....and don't for god's sake loose that bronx accent. It's the best. What would you give for his Gibson the sound was and is amazing or a Fender....I'm drooling 😂

David Draiman's voice is one of the best I've ever heard and that dude can sing live as well as in a stuido, those are the singers I have respect for these days his drummer ....his guitarist.. who also plays piano like an angel gave him the gift ,that whole band is talent personified, any half assed singer can sound good in a stuido now ,with millions of dollars of sound equipment my cat could put out a #1 song lol

@@pixie3760 l'll have to check them out, don't know much about them. My nephew has just introduced me to prog metal band Tool. They remind me of a harder, Peter Gabriel era Genesis, really interesting stuff. And Nightwish, you can hear the influence of bands like Yes and Jethro Tull. I love finding new music still. Don't know what l'd do without it really. As for the head banging, the arthritis in my neck limits that a bit these days. Doesn't stop me from Rockin out in the kitchen though 😂

Deep Purple were a live not a studio band - every performance was an opportunity improvisation by Lord and Blackmore - backed by the rock solid drumming of Ian Paice. Led Zeppelin were a studio band - creating masterworks in the studio which they could not improve on live. You are right though the late 60s and early 70s were a great time for music as every band was treading new ground - creating their own sound - the A&R men were no longer in control & the young producers and engineers were innovative - not just programming click tracks and autotune. That all changed again at the end of the 70s and now in the noughties where a lot of the performances are processed.

Music of my teens. Not my fav band then but great memory now. No, I don`t think we have this variety of styles and characters now, at least not in the mass market dominating Anglo-American popworld. Because music companies today are predominantly run by marketing people, not musicians. The package you sell is important, the music alone takes second place.

Good question - where have you been? Ok,have to admit, that in the early 70s, I was too young to realize them, but it certainly didn't take mit 50!!! years to learn about them. In the 70s, here in Germany those bands, basically were non-existent in mainstream media and one had to rely on older friends who had the means to get hold of records, so I had heard a few songs here and there, but that was it. Then, in the mid-70s, Punk and independent music came along and it wasn't until the 90s, when that boring electronic,Rap and HipHop-music took over,I had the time and money, to make better connection to the "old" and progressiv Rock. Btw, I noticed, you're working on your hair. A couple of years, and you might join a band like Deep Purple - or at least, fit into one of their concerts.

When my friends were getting into KISS I just laughed and said so what if you think that is good then go ahead and enjoy. This performance was for like a TV show and they rocked it out live for a crowd that size.
