My personal Purple favourite - blew me away when it came out in 71. Virtuosos all, but Ian Pace, cripes. His are some of the greatest drumming chops, perfect dynamic control and you know he loves to swing - the man was made to shuffle. Play this at half speed and some of his fills still seem daunting. A perfect rock record.

In the old days of vinyl i.e. before compact discs, I had an album called The Deep Purple Singles, which had twelve tracks and finished with Fireball. Every rack was a winner especially Emmaretta, Wring That Neck, Demon's Eye, and Black Night. All that was missing was Kentucky Woman (probably due to the band switching labels). Again, loved the chair dancing.

Ned from Spain stoppin by yet again. The story goes that when they went into the studio The Who had been there recording before them. Keith Moon had left behind a bass drum and Ian, who never used double drums on any DP records gave it a shot. Of course he nailed it after a a minute to get used to it and I think this is take 2 ! He did it live when they played for Danish TV in 1972. Rough around the edges, the lyrics and melody not quite there but Pacey is incredible. You should do a reaction of that gig because it's a stone classic and over an hour of music.

Deep Purple, always a good band. If this doesn't bore you, there were 3 different line ups to the band. Mark I - Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Bass player Nicky Simper and vocalist Rod Evens. Mark II - Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Vocalist Ian Gillan and Bass Roger Glover Mark III - Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Vocalist David Coverdale and bassist Glen Hughes. Blackmore left Deep Purple at that point and put Rainbow together with Ronnie James Dio. I hope that didn't take too much of your time.

Ok, if you're going to get into DP, then you need to go to one of the all time heavy metal classics - "Sweet child in time". It is long, but it is a true heavy metal EXPERIENCE! And then, of course, there is their defining song - "Smoke on the water". Pretty amazed you haven't discovered this yet! Maybe the greatest riff of all time!

As far as Deep Purple is concerned, I tend to think of this track as being a bit lightweight, a bit of a throwaway. It's still very good, but it's probably the least interesting track on the album named for it. No One Came would be my pick from that, along with The Mule and Fools.

An excellent DP song. Actually one of the few when you had Ian Paice to the fore. However, the album Fireball is dissapointing and a tad gloomy. It came between In Rock and Machine Head which are far better albums. By the way Chris this is Deep Purple MK2 after the original singer Rod Evans and bassist Nick Simper left. MK1 did 3 albums and some goid songs such as I'm So Glad.
