They were my second best act on the thing - sorry, but #1 went to Pink Floyd. Both bands are my biggest favs ever, it's just that PF were reuniting for this occasion and did so at nighttime, that's what made their performance a bit more special. Still, much love to both bands and every single person who took part in the event, including us at home

That's actually my favorite performance of Hush with the last line-up which included Don Airey on organ, replacing Jon Lord. Great Hammond-Leslie sound, absolutely spot on for this song and I really enjoy what energy Don "infuses" here. The band's on fire and Gillan still got some energy left in his pipes - what a difference that made compared to later performances.
@seamusin16975 жыл бұрын
True, but Jon Lord was a legend!
@hammondvoodoo95555 жыл бұрын
@@seamusin1697 Their background in musical eduaction is vastly different which results in different playing techniques and Don being the slighty more refined player. But Jon's strength always was his great and unique feel for melody and improvisation (especially phrasing). If you watch this making-of kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX68n4l7es5ra5I just go to 24:56. This is absolutely touching and I don't expect to hear something like this from most other players including Don.

@@Apollo-bw3hv To each their own. This version doesn't have anything to do with the 1968 studio version for sure but they recorded it again in the studio (Mark II line-up) in the late 80ies and put it on the Nobody's Perfect live album as a bonus track. So they're playing an updated variation of the second version. Ryhthmically, it's definitely brilliant, the organ solo is really nice. What I don't understand is that you don't like the singing. It's actually powerful but I get that sound is a matter of taste. Nevertheless, it's definitely not true that Gillan sounds like shit here. That's a bold statement.

Rod thought he could come up with his own Purple line-up in 1980 since the band had broken up in 1976. It was a total disaster and actually really bad. He ended up being sued for a buttload of money and his career was over immediately. Insane! You can read it up if you look for "Bogus Deep Purple".
@em7dim9 Жыл бұрын
@@hammondvoodoo9555 Not quite. Rod was approached by a con man who had a history of creating fake bands, and lured into it with money and some false promises. He made a mistake but they should have made him stop instead of ruining him. The rest of the band was outright vindictive. No reason to crucify the man over one lapse in judgment.
