Check out earlier versions of the band. Ian isn't the same here (at least w/ this song). He's being very conservative & careful w/ his voice. Check out Ian Gillian w/ Gethsemane (1970).

THAT riff actually appears in the third Pink Panther cartoon "We Give Pink Stamps" from 3 years before - and it was written by William Lava, Watch the cartoon and LISTEN to the music and you will hear it played on a trumpet - 3 times.

Only 3 of them are the original lineup, ie Ian Paice on drums, Roger Glover on bass and Ian Gillian on vocals. Steve Morse is great on lead guitar but you have to listen to the legendary Ritchie Blackmore and the irreplaceable Jon Lord on keyboard and their guitar and organ duelling. RIP Jon Lord, the Lord of the Hammond organ. Listen to some of their older recordings… you’ll be blown. Got to listen to Child in Time, Highway’s Star, Perfect Strangers, Soldier of Fortune ( a very different lineup, with David Coverdale on vocals) just to name a few…😂

The lead vocalist, Ian Gillan, sounds good, but he's 62 y/o in this 2007 live performance and his voice isn't as strong as when he was young. You should listen to their live performance of Child In Time from the 70's. Ian Gillan also sang the part of Jesus on the original 1970 recording of Jesus Christ Superstar. Their original guitarist was Richie Blackmore, but this guitarist, Steve Morse, played with them from 1994 to 2022 and he is one of the best guitarists on the planet.

Yes Ian Gillian is one of the best singger ever. Listen to Lazy, strange kind a woman, Perfect strangers, When a blind man cries and when he took part in Jesus Christ superstar and sang Gethsemane. Ian Gillian is probepbly the best rock singer together with Ronnie james dio.
