Thanks Ian, hope you find one mate, they do come up from time to time. Not sure what weight you are but my larger friends have the new X25 and regretted selling the old chair as the leg locking mech is different in the new one and they were slipping so Jamie resolved that by drilling the legs every inch to allow for adjust and putting lynch pins through and John resolved it with some clamps, not ideal but it works for them. Don't know what the X25 is like for a lightweight like me but I'm actually trying to find an Aeronium chair but none in stock anywhere since mid June. 😭. Very informative video. I am wondering whether or not to give this a try in Canada. I know of a couple of similar waters that might hold some perch or other fish at depth. They would be difficult to target with our conventional gear so this might open up new possibilities.
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
Definitely worth a try, there's lots of bolo rods around, check out my tackle talk on long rods and it'll give you an insight into the key differences between the continental style bolo and a traditional long rod and their advantages / disadvantages. If you choose to go for a continental style rod as used here, they make them in lengths up to 10 metres (generally have to import then from Italy) and they make them in some very strong models to fish for carp and barbel. This one is a medium light for use with floats in the 5-15g range and is probably suitable for fish up to 4lb Hope this helps and thanks for watching. Tight Lines 🎣
@Thermopylae20073 жыл бұрын
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel Thank-you for your thorough response. I will take a close look at your videos as that is precisely what I was looking for. There's a few European sites that ship to Canada at reasonable cost, and I was thinking of setting a traditional and bolo style rod for reaching fish in a few areas near me where nobody is targeting them. We've had access to standard carp fishing here for sometime now, but feeder rods, match rods and bolos were hardly available, and even fewer fishermen would have known how to set them up!
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@Thermopylae2007 to be honest it's not a widely used method in the UK, only those of us prepared to adopt. You could always try a top and bottom slider on a 13 or 14ft rod but I explain the drawbacks in the long rods video , I just got hold of some top and bottom slider floats from germany, www.ebay.de/itm/113757763865

Great video John. Surprised you don’t use some hemp? When ever we travel up north there always seems to be the odd better fish being held by it plus it’s good for deep swims, as it sinks so quick. Pouch or two every now n then really does pin the better fish down. IMHO. Merry Christmas to you and your family 👍

Yes, its way to high and no doubt the banks are even worse now. Its a shame as I really want to fish the pole on some of it, but will have to wait until the levels go down - that'll probably be on the Hull side next time. If I'd given it some groundbait early on I think it could've easily been a double figure net.

you say you have some lighter bolo rigs are theses set up on winders cheers
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have some setup on winders, though the rig I was using here was setup ready at home as I knew what I was facing so avoided the need for joining the line. If you have to do that, it's best to just setup the bottom couple of metres with olivette and droppers etc on and join to your may line lower down rather than end up with a knot running through the rods eyes. This means beaing able to then slide your float over the joining knot, so best to just attach with float rubbers and ignore any side eyes on the float if they have them. For larger versions i use the preston bolos in 3-6g, under 3g I use the Dave Harrel no.2 bolos, that generally covers my needs.

It does mate, I'm proficient in slider fishing but these days I only really employ it when the depths get beyond the range of my long rods or a far bank cast is required - I've got the rods, so I use em. Won a team event on the Tees at Stockton back in 2004 but we fished the pole that day.

OK, it's a little heavy and quite a large reel which in one sense is good but I do prefer something a little more compact (I had a 704 before it got stolen which was an excellent reel). In terms of reliability, no problems what so ever (I've got two of them), bail mechanisim is positive but as with all closed face reels, sometimes the line beds in a little so you have to work the rod tip to keep paying line out, it's just the nature of them. Forget about the drag, they're next to useless, back wind or spool control to allow the handle to go backwards if you need to give line. Overall 7/10
