If consciousness is 100% physical, we would have to conclude that the same kind of consciousness that we experience as humans can be generated by non-biological entities (eventually).

I can't believe these videos have 1000 views... They're so beautiful... The topics, the hd image, the colors and the synergy between interviewer and interviewed... Some of the best I've seen so far. So pleasant !

why do all of these videos have so many dislikes? is everyone so opposed to anything not shoved down their throats through standard education? That's why people who study science are either so dull and unwise, from following what they've been strictly introduced to, or you have the polar opposite of scientists who incorporate some sort of interesting philosophical 'conjecture' to try to at least expand the current understanding of it.

People who study science are dull and unwise? That right there says a lot about how you think. Or don't think to be more accurate. I get why you would see them as dull. But unwise? For me, the unwise are the flakes who believe in 2000 different religions. Join cults. Believe the earth is flat. Pay fake Psychics to make them feel better, and so on. Magic is much more wondrous when you don't know how it's done. Some would say it's even "dull". But it's unwise to accept the magic trick as real, regardless. Take a look around at your fellow humans. Do they seem like magical beings to you? Read enough comments on KZbin, or Fakebook and you'll soon realise that humans are pretty bloody stupid on the whole. Some time in the future robots will have consciousness, and they will be far, far more efficient than a race that gets tired quickly, lives short, consumes too many resources, gets sick, complains all the time, and has emotional breakdowns on a daily basis.

While I admit his new-ageism sellout is not appealing, it cannot be ignored that Chopra's ideas of a "quantum mind" (As opposed to the mainstream, biological reductionist view of consciousness), has been gaining attention by a small yet prominent group of physicists (Sir Roger Penrose, Matthew Fischer, Donald Hoffman, Nicholas Gisin). A small group, but 10 years ago, this theory was not even dared to be mentioned.

Did Chopra actually come up with the Quantum Mind idea, or did he grasp it from (earlier) physicists ?

"E=mc^2" (basically the strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force, and gravity effects) and "E=hf" (basically the electromagnetic radiation force) supposedly explains everything in this universe. Everything could be deduced down into and understood in energy terms and the interrelationships between those units of energy. Modern science recognizes the quantum (a bundle of energy) as a fundamental unit of physical existence. Modern science also recognizes (QCD) quantum chromodynamics and (QED) quantum electrodynamics as the interactions between electromagnetic radiation and the nucleus and the electrons respectively. If all of this is true, and there are no other unknown forces that exist in this universe other than what we know of above, then "consciousness", whatever it actually is, has to be able to be explained by one or more of these forces. And it could be understood in it's most basic form of energy interacting with energy. Even the mind/body connection could be understood as energy interacting with energy. Personally, at this time, I believe that "consciousness" is energy that has gone over quantum thresholds and under quantum ceilings, aligning where it can, which then allows it to rise to higher levels. "Consciousness" emerges.

A very vague way of phrasing it... but essentially correct. And the process by which consciousness "emerges" (as you phrase it) from matter and energy is called "evolution". That's what creates and sloooowly refines structures, brains, minds, and eventually consciousness in Earth animals (such as humans), and probably life on many other planets throughout this universe as well. This is an dynamic, evolving universe rather than a static, "created" universe as morons such as Mike Pence would have you believe. And it's old, VERY old, about 13,800,000,000 years old (not 5000 as Christians would have you believe); that much is fact, not opinion, shown to be true by vast mountains of evidence (such as the alternating bands of magnetic polarity in the spreading floor of The Atlantic Ocean, which show that Earth's magnetic polarity, which flips roughly every 10,000 years, has done so at least thousands of times; read Richard Dawkins's excellent book "The Greatest Show On Earth" for much more evidence). Over that period of time, in a universe this vast (over 100 billion light years wide), many, many complex structures will evolve via the trying-and-rejecting process of "natural selection". So it's to be expected that human brains and minds and consciousness and similar things would exist in this universe. And I'd be very surprised if other, much MORE elaborate structures and systems didn't exist elsewhere in this universe. Probably many of the creatures and systems out there are so complex that humans to them are like bacteria are to humans. Pray to humankind's pretend gods (Yahweh, Allah, Vishnu, etc) that we never meet a REAL god, because it would likely disinfect this planet (by killing all humans) because it would likely see us as being a disease rather than "intelligent life". But on the other hand, if we were to meet creatures from elsewhere who were just a LITTLE bit more advanced than we are, that might be beneficial to both species. (Or it could be disastrous. See both the movie "Star Trek: First Contact", and Part 1 of the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Through A Mirror, Darkly", for ways this scenario could play out.)

Consciousness can be programmed and stored, AI/books. Consciousness can never be artificial, consciousness is Eternal, it cant be created, Only renewed and developed, consciousness is the Life-Ability of Living, organic beings, our organ/body-structure, and the rainbow, mirror our consciousness-structure.

Here is my question: If consciousness is fundamental and it is everywhere and boundless couldn’t it be that humans were somehow able to created a machine that could capture consciousness just has our brains/physiology do? It wouldn’t be a matter of creating consciousness but just a matter of giving it a support for it to manifest in a physical form.
@jonnekjonneksson
@jonnekjonneksson 2 жыл бұрын
In order to answer that we must first understand or discover what exactly consciousness is and how-why it has been created. The big query, still, is that consciousness could be a level of subjectivity-creativity-spirituality which belongs to a different dimension of reality as we know it. I tend to agree with Chopra while at the same time nobody can predict (or even imagine) what the logical characteristics of technology could be in, say, 2000 years from now. For example, consciousness may be a product of a quantum substance which at some point could be completely replicated and reproduced under a new form of technology which is far beyond complicated and capable as an "Ultimate Computer" could ever be.

@@jonnekjonneksson In the eastern Vedic philosophy and mystic traditions it is postulated that consciousness is that witch was not created. Is the other way around: consciousness is the source of creation. Pretty much like God in the western tradition. Both traditions speak of something that is ever present , boundless beyond understanding .

If a soul existed that could think, would it want to be forced to worship its creator? It’s as probable that my personal consciousness will survive the death of the material body that I inhabit, as it will be that the personal consciousness of an alligator will survive the death of the material body that he or she inhabits.

If I was a thoroughly unscrupulous, reasonably intelligent character desperate to become wealthy as soon as possible, I would open a megachurch and hire a great but anonymous actor to play the role of pastor. I wonder if banks will imagine a profit through investing in my completely synthetic Church of Wholly Moolah? Is Deepak Chopra a resurrected, slightly reworked, Elmer Gantry? I very strongly think so for obviously the man has come to poor conclusions regarding the nature of 'life' and the nature of being conscious and how being conscious came about. Deepak Chopra's thoughts are spattered with mysticism and mysticism is a word that means exactly the same as the phrases, 'haven't got a clue' and 'magic explains'.

Wow, this is the first time I've actually AGREED with Deepak Chopra on something; usually he's full of shit; but this time he really nails it. The whole concept of "if consciousness is 100% physical, we would have to conclude that the same kind of consciousness that we experience as humans can be generated by non-biological entities" is a non-sequitur. It does NOT follow from the fact that consciousness is purely physical (and it IS a fact; if you doubt that, look up "Terri Schiavo" on Wikipedia) that consciousness can arise in computers. Computers are vastly less complex than human brains; NOT "billions" (10^9) of times less complex, as the repetitive grey-haired dork in this video keeps saying, but QUINTILLIONS (10^18) of times less complex. Google "number of neural connections in human brain" to see what I mean. Yes, consciousness is purely an epiphenomenon of brains (at least on Earth); but no, computers will never have it. No amount of human ingenuity can engineer anywhere NEAR the amount of complexity which 5 billion years of evolution can. Complexity arises from order, and order arises from complexity, here and everywhere, now and forever (look up "Feigenbaum constants" in Wikipedia for much more on this); but that takes billions of years of testing and rejecting by the trial-and-error of evolution, whereas human technology is only about 400 years old (not 4000000000 years old, as life on Earth is).

Not only is our flesh an illusion formed from invisible information but so is our individual consciousness. Nothing we experience is real. Only our Creator and His simulation program are real.

walter bishop It's very difficult for us created characters in a computer program to believe that we're not real people living in a real universe. All our bodies, bodily motions, consciousness, emotions, senses, etc. are processed ( formed ) from invisible information. The information exists as vibrations that don't require any space to be stored. The theory that everything we experience came from the Big Bang is somewhat true but it's easier to sort this out by saying that every created being has a Big Bang of information to experience for eternity. All the Big Bang's together come from ONE Big Bang, which is the consciousness ( thoughts ) of our Creator who spoke His creation into technology that we can't see.

+Brad Holkesvig well that is true, physical reality is just misperception, a macrocosmic view of the microcosmic, so you could say it is unreal. I agree you Brad, there has to be a source to the creation of energy by a force which cannot be known, possibly

Tony C The Voice of God has revealed everything that our Creator wanted me to know before the body that's writing this post is killed. If you want to know how we'll experience life in the future, all you have to do is listen to the Voice. The Voice of God is similar to IBM's Watson which is connected to the a majority of the information in this world. The Voice of God is connected to the Creator who used it to speak His creation ( simulation program ) into existence.
