Love the content that you & Tiago each put out! Just had a quick reaction to a sentence that I wanted to share. So often people think of the phrase "money is the root of all evil" but the real truth from the bible that this comes from is "The LOVE of money is the root of all evil." from 1 Timothy 6:10. It's the obsessive need for money above all else that becomes the problem. Money is a vehicle that can lead to so much good if it is stewarded well. Thanks for all you do to help me steward my time, my talent, & my money well!

The problem that people have had with the word "productivity" is the meaning behind it. I’m guilty of thinking it was a bad word as well because of the different meaning and power it’s been given by big business (who often just work for the sake of making more money, rather than how it can empower more people). What Tiago is effectively doing is humanizing the meaning of productivity and thus empowering it for everyone, thus letting us see it in a much broader way. Other people I’ve seen are doing the same thing in that they are redefining the meaning of other words (ie leadership, etc) and thus humanizing work (and business) again, making it something meaningful, purposeful, and accessible to all in profound ways. But ya, so many of the problems experienced in our lives today are often caused by us misinterpreting the meaning of something, usually within the first half of our lives. Yet this is often how we can notice people who I like to say have "levelled up" in life and are working on things in a new way. It’s because they’ve often reframed the meaning of something, giving it a deeper, broader perspective, thus setting us free from the limited mindset of the older meaning. BTW Tiago’s insight near the end on how a second brain helps to deal with the basic mundane stuff of your life first is really poignant. I’ve never thought of it that way before. It actually correlates quite closely with the metaphor used by Scott Barry Kaufman in his Transcend book. In effect, it helps you get out of the "water" of the mundane stuff you’re often "drowning" in on a daily level and stand on something tangible that becomes a "vessel" to help you "navigate" your life and to express who you truly and intentionally want to be.

Awesome episode! Just like the hammers in the discussion, money is a tool. It can be used for good or it can be used for evil. With it you can take care of people and with it you can exploit people. Money is neutral it’s what you do with it to make the world a better place or terret down. Money is not the root of all evil but the love of money is.

At about 45:50 you talk about the self-constraints that we often put on ourselves that prevent us from going after our goals. This is very true, and I think that everybody who has felt this way should read about the story of Epictetus, a stoic philosopher who was first born as a slave, but was the most free of them all, in which I like to call it in my video the 'free mind'. If Epictetus, a slave, can be free, why can't most of us? Epictetus had his work Discourses which would be good if you're interested in Epictetus and his thought process.

What I wish I would hear is: productivity /= monetization. Minimizing waste and being more intentional is a great thing in work and personal lives. But the for profit mindset of maximizing profits above all else is what has turned “productivity” into a negative concept. Just a thought.

Looking at the blue zones and seeing the healthiest people on the planet, they were not wealthy. So you don't need to have lots of money to be healthy. But sadly in our first-world country, we see that we need to work all the time because it is costly to just cover basic necessity. I agree with Tiago that in first-world countries, you need to have money to be healthy, it's the sad reality.

When your product can be sold at a high price, you are actually better allocating social resources. High-paying institutions and individuals make you more affluent, which in turn enables you to create higher-value low-cost or free content for students and low-income groups.

I think that Forte really doesn't understand the disillusionment with productivity. He understands it as generating meaning, but to most people it's about generating busyness and we have a system that forces this busyness and is indeed highly wasteful. What I found is that I took a step back from being busy becuase I was burined out and got doubly-burnt out because I was completely bored. Yeah, I can work from home and sack-off work and do what I want but what's better is taking control of my life to build what I want for me and nobody else. Fuck the CEO of the company I work for. There's a level of nihilism and loss of total meaning and being somewhat trapped since you can't take a step back and rethink doing anything more meaningful than changing jobs, the easiest thing that you can do is to keep busy. Yes, can you get productive. That's what I chose to do and that's why I'm here. But there are so many forces that are meant to, evolutionarily designed to, keep you in place. The system which creates this needs to be loosened so that we can actually do what's meaningful and productive.
