Yes please talk about Camellia azaleas and hybrids. Camellia x 'Xiafeng Relang‘ (Summrr winds and Hot waves) is great- blooms before sasanquas and flowers are huge. Buddy Lee has pictures of pale or white flower hybrids that supposedly will be available in the future. 33:55 variegated Camellia sasanqua 'Golden Phoenox’

A species I got from Woodlanders that is nice is called Edithae...it's a pretty fuschia pink that has quite shiny foliage....I have no clue where Edithae originated but it seems happy and blooms well...

Love Woodlanders - started my Camellia collection with plants from them ( including edithae) in the early 90s

They have moved to a different location. You probably know. Very close to the old location. I'm headed over there in a couple weeks...I'm gonna get more clinopodium for one thing...that's a great plant they grow...

I come from the tidewater area of VA and have to say that I miss the Camellias the most. I have quite a few planted here in the PNW, including my favorite X Freedom Bell. I have dealt with every one of your listed sources either as a private gardener or in my capacity as a buyer. I am a fan of the whole Theaceae ( and the JCRA )

Jim Putnman of Hortube and Brie Arthur together presented some KZbins on favorite camellias including a series of polling supported favorites. Highly recommend the youtube videos they produced on camellias. I believe Arthur has work history at Camelia Forrest from where I have purchased several thriving selections.

Wow, there are even more amazing cultivars than I imagined! I’m growing a bunch of Ackerman types in Buffalo. Although I actually found some camellias that I DON’T like… namely ‘Ogon-ba’ because it reminds me of golden vicary privet… I used to work for a landscape company and there was this site that we had to keep golden vicary 3’ meatballs on a steep slope… I HATE golden vicary privet (and look alikes) because of it!!!😂

Yeah, that sounds atrocious. Luckily there are so many other fantastic cultivars there's sure to be something for everyone and you can avoid the ones that stoke your PTSD (Plant-related Traumatic Stress Disorder)

Yes! That's our 2025 botanical shirt featuring evergreen oaks. We got a long-sleeve one that's purple, and Tim's wearing the short sleeve in blue. They are on sale at the garden now!

The JC Raulston Arboretum might consider this: 🌺 Tasking an Intern with the following project: To go around to all the commercial establishments, in your area (RALEIGH), identifying where the camellias are planted, where their "landscapers", in the Fall, proceed to chop all their (soon-to-be-FLOWERING!!) heads off. Intern: Notifies each facility mgr and tipping them --the Intern will TAG which plants are the relevant NAMED CAMELLIAS with a Neon Green tag (prettier), leaving clear and firm instructions for the "landscapers" from the commercial business: "PLS DO NOT CHOP-TOP THESE PLANTS -- or, you will take off the beautiful FLOWERS ABOUT TO BLOOM THAT WINTER! The Intern could then, also task a person of their choosing, to craft a lovely One Branch, or One Flower gift, a floral stem w 5+ blossoms in a vase, or, as a corsage, whatever, to gift to the OWNER of each particular commercial establishment ~ Thereby teaching appreciation + knowledge of said CAMELLIA in Raleigh!! A lovely JC Raulston Arboretum community contribution to plant knowledge & appreciation. 😍

👋👋👋 I live about 50 miles north of Philadelphia Pa. I have April pink and victory white camellia plants, one in a pot and April pink in the ground. My only problem is that squirrels decided to take a taste of the blooms and like them so much that I don’t have any future flowers. In spite of having plenty of bird seeds peanuts and suet, the darned squirrels were not satisfied, they destroyed the entire bloom season for me. I’m thinking next season I’ll wrap both plants with bird netting. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🐿️🐿️🐿️

Honestly, squirrels are the most ridiculous of garden pests, causing problems that really make the mind reel!
