The Summer Color Trials at the JC Raulston Arboretum bring an explosion of color to our garden in the summer, year after year. Come take a walk with Bernadette Clark, the Bedding Plant Trials Coordinator at the Arboretum, and Tim Alderton, the arboretum's Research Technician, as they show you this year's newly introduced plants, the early season top performers, as well as a few of their own personal favorites.

I have both of the "Upside" sweet potato varieties growing on a chain link fence. They're doing very well.

How do you deal with sawfly larvae eating the perennial hibiscus?

We do not. The JC Raulston Arboretum does very little spraying for weeds and insect pests.

Sawflie larvae last only a very short time. They'll skelotonize some leaves, but not kill the plant. Be patient, they'll disappear fairly quickly. If you're impatient, and have a small home garden just spray them off the leaves with water.
