Best mining video I have seen for a long time!I worked in deep coal mining in Northumberland England for nearly 30 years, from 15 years old, straight from my school desk! [in 1959] It wasn't like this![very low seams ..wet....rough conditions..foul air due to poor ventilation...NO dust masks at all! ..NO hearing protection at all in the earlier years when we were young and easier for damage to be caused to hearing..!] Thanks for giving us your time and patience to preserve your visit for us to see!

Brilliant video. . I worked in the Kent coal mines on the long wall system. . . 1.6 metres high seams . . I was good to see the machines running, just add dust darkness and noise . . Thank you 👍

For those that are wondering, that mine hasn't producer coal in ages. Before it was a museum it was used for training miners on new equipment etc. My father learned how to operate a longwall extractor there in late 70s.

Very enjoyable, I would be interested in visiting this colliery. In the uk our heritage has almost been rubbed out so opportunities to visit working mines are limited. Many thanks

Great video, really enjoyed it. Can't believe that the mine is so huge! I'm also surprised at the amount of headroom (vertical space) there is....I'm sure it wasn't always like that. Coal miners are some of the toughest people on Earth.

Hello, may I ask what camera you were using on this tour please? As a former coal miner, I was amazed to see people with electronic devices underground (watches and phones). At the National Coalmining Museum in the UK, even though it is not a working mine anymore we still have to observe the contraband regulations (No phones, watches, car keys, lighters/cigarettes etc.) Thank you for posting these videos, greetings from Yorkshire UK. Norman.

Nice tour , thanks ! Very enjoyable , to bad " zippy" your guide was walking as if in a marathon. Hard to get a good feel for working underground moving that fast. Still very impressive mine , much more extensive then the 1 I worked at. What did you think when all the lights were out ? lol

Hah, thank you for your comment. Yea, the guide was a litlle bit rush, but there is a lot to see. Basically i recmmend to lookaround and listen, because while you filming you cannot fully immerse yourself into the trip. And about the lights. I was pretty calm, but i understand how horrible was to work and spend SO MUCH time of your life with such a low light. And without electicity back than it was pretty scary, when your lamp goes off and you were the last one, or work alone.

I worked in underground in a coal mine running the scoop in Grande Cache Canada until it closed in the early 80's , reopened doing long wall mining. Just closed once again due to government BS, was nothing like this one . Ours was very unsafe (on a fault line) closed due to loss of 4 miners in the pit next to us. Why I brought up the no lighting was when we went in on the weekend to move the conveyors . During our slack time when our pit boss or fire boss came around to do air checks we would turn our lights off as soon as we saw thier's coming and they would walk right past us ( they knew were we were) then we would chat about what we would do if we all had no lights. We were taught to stay where we were till someone came to find us. Very unlikely all lights would be out at the same time , but had to do critical thinking just in case. My first day underground , after 2 weeks of in class training 3 of us got a guy from England as a trainer . 1/2 mile in the floor "bumped" in front of us about 50 yards (ceiling to floor was 10 feet , went down to 4 feet) After the dust settled he had to come all the way outside to get us.. never ran so fast in my life! All he said was "get used to it and lets go" (back in ) So we had to go under that till it got to the regular 10' , almost shit myself ..lol . funny now , but not then.

God damn, that's scary. One time when i was in gold mine, without elevator, they told me "when lights go off, go with the wather" as far as i remember, in that mine, there was a litle stream of water running on the right side of tunnel. just before wall. And you can go with it, stoping on the water, hear it spash. and move forward. They tell us to do that because water was allways running to outside. (but maybe im wrong or i don't remember it correctly) I bet you have some interesting stories about your work. if you want more information this is their site kopalniaguido.pl/index.php/en/

Well that brings back a few memories. Usually we worked around the clock , 8 hour shifts + 2 hours on the bus to town , return. Weekends were time to move equipment, hence why the belt move story. Had the whole weekend to do 4-5 hours work. Some times a full shift at most. We had a rule as back up to go towards the air. Once the miner chewed into an underground lake , thankfully it wasn't all that big ,plus was on a decline and all equipment was pulled out almost dry , with a little maintenance was moved and removing coal from another drift. I was out side getting a load of roof bolts and mesh when it happened . Never got to see it though.. Actually didn't want to go near that drift , ended up sealed anyway. Our mines were all walk in , and mostly timber taken in . Only steel was arches, roof bolts , mesh , and Joy equipment , miner , shuttle car roof bolter and my scoop ( unitrack ) as we called them . Was scary , exciting ,sad , and lots of cautious fun, quit the adrenilin rush. Honestly , I'm glad I had the opportunity to work under ground , bet would never do it again in hind sight.
