U-Pick-It.... I understand you took some heat on going to the U-Pick-It farm to get your peppers. Actually, I was thankful that you provided that as an option just as Wanda had told us about buying organic carrots at the store to insure that her pantry was stocked. Awhile back Wanda said she was really going to focus on stocking her pantry/food storage and you both are on the same page sharing information on how to insure this gets done. I really like seeing your determination which shows us, if something doesn't work, figure out another way. Thanks for sharing. God Bless!

Danny, in full agreement. No fear. Just know what my family needs. Have many years on you. Still do what I can, but family has determined I am the food provider and preserver of those foods supervisor. If one does not have the skills, find someone who does. Garden like your life depends on it; it does. Don’t let food go to waste. Dehydrate it or freeze it. Got a couple of pints or quarts, can it. Save fabric. Shop sale bin for fabric. Shop Salvation Army for sheets and quilts. Buy thread and other notions. If you can fine a treadle sewing machine, buy it. I have a modern head (Janome) on a treadle base. Works great. Have manual tools for everyday tasks; making flour, pressing seed for oil, equipment for distilling, etc. Learn how to store grains long term without bugs. Buy instant coffee as it will stay fresh longer than coffee by the pound. Think about water supply if city water system goes down from lack of electricity. Go camping. Have a good time with family. Note what you would need to live long term like that.

Great advice. I went to thrift stores and bought clothes and shoes for my toddler. So far up until about age 10. Also bought socks and underwear in different sizes. We've got some food storage but I know it's not enough. Having a tough time with the garden but have chickens, rabbits and pigs. Gotta think of food storage for them too! Going to try and silage our grass clippings (oh and we have a scythe ;)

I've been saying that for years too, whoever controls the food, controls you.... We are putting in another huge garden as soon as we can and have rabbits and chickens and plan on hunting this fall. Canning as much as I can from our first garden area, it's not small, but we realize it won't provide all of our food, but it sure is a good bit eaten fresh for sure, we eat out of it everyday, just not a lot left for canning or giving to family. Mainly parents because they bless up so much.

Danny another thing I have noticed is all the food recalls. When I was a kid and even in my 20s I don't remember food being recalled constantly. It seems to me that alot of people get sick or die from the food at the stores. This a the first yr on yrs I have been able to have a garden. But no canner yet. But anything I can put up that just has to be water bathed or frozen I'm on it. Even thinking about leather britches for the bean if I have enough to put away. I'm to the point I don't trust any produce from the store. Hugs

Donna dehydrating is another method you might want to look into for food preservation. I used to dry food in the sun but I don't now because of all the stuff in the air. You can use the interior of your car if you don't want to invest in an electric or solar dehydrator.

I have a long time vegetarian friend who has chicken noodle soup mixes in her long term emergency storage. Made me smile. You are 100% right -- hungry people will eat things they would never dream of eating in the current day. When we were in Missouri, we fished for carp up at Lake Stockton. Everybody turned their nose up and called it trash fish. We just smiled, went home and pressure cooked it, and made the most delicious fish patties ever. Maybe it's a good idea to try some things you're not used to, and see how it goes for you. Though I've heard grubs can be quite nutritious, I'm just not ready for that one yet. That right there is incentive enough to be well stocked in the pantry.

I have always used that expression on really hot days 'like walking into an oven" We have not gotten as much rain lately so the humidity is not too bad. It's a shame you can't completely speak your mind these days Danny, without fear of being knocked off the tube. I like that you use parables, Jesus taught that way many times. I am 66 and your question about crazy weather, it's been doing this for about 10 yrs now, before that the weather progressed from season to season in a very reliable way. It's NUTS now! I have had this as a side text on my checks for years now "Time is short.. are you Ready?" Side note, I cut the top off a chicken feed bag (plastic one) sewed it into handles and put those on the bag. Makes a sturdy grocery bag that the handles won't hurt your hands when it's heavy and won't break. Gets some odd looks but what do I care? lol.

Danny, this is the first summer that it gets light enough to see my backyard at 4:15 am. I live in the desert of Arizona and it's always in the triple digits by May. It doesn't get less than triple digits until late in October. But on Sunday, it only got to 94 degrees. And Saturday, at 12:30 in the afternoon, it was only 79 degrees! I agree with you about the economy. The rich are getting so greedy. No one takes care of the elderly or handicapped, or even the little kids any longer. We just need to stay in prayer and support one another and stick together when things do get bad. I feel it’s important to be ready for when the time comes and do our best to live the way that the Bible instructs us. We are way overdue for a significant market correction. 2008 was the last one that severely effected our lives and they used the real estate market to bring us to our knees. I think they are going to somehow use food to bring on the next significant disruption. I think it's already started. There has been two recent outbreaks of salmonella with contamination found in watermellons and children's cereal. Seems like the food supply is being systematically contaminated. Just my thoughts on the subject.

No man knows when and what may come for sure, but we all know that time is short and we had best get off our lazy butts and be as ready as we are able to be. Myself, I am sweating all the larger projects that need completing before we have to rely on them. Shed to protect my generator, chicken coop build and pen for the birds, outhouse, greenhouse, smokehouse, the list goes on. We slowly check a few things off as we are able, but it's just taking longer than we feel like we need it to. But all we can do is the best we can, while keeping up with what we already have going. Garden is doing fair, not great, but acceptable.

I too have been concerned about the rising food prices. It must be crazy all over the world. A lady in England is having a terrible time with her garden this year. How can SOMETHING that is DEAD wake up! You know what I mean? You know I've been looking at the zones that we supposed to plant in. With the polar shift, I am planting a little different then that of my grandfather. I supposed to plant in zone 6. But I'm now looking at planting as though I'm in zone 8. This seems to be working. What made me look at this... I was led to watch a KZbinr that I think it's called no-dig gardening. He's in zone 8. I felt a little stupid knowing we've had a pole shift and that the weather has changed. We may have to change our zones. I have already started this. Agree with your message. The Bible tells us that in the end times people will marry and be given in Marriage. This tells me people will be going their own way in daily life and oblivious to what is Really going on. Those who just know they must prepare and seeing the signs, heed them and Will be much better off. Do I want to know all this and spend time preparing food and such.? No! But, what happens if I don’t? I know because I feel it and am right with God enough to be Given direction...prepare now and don’t regret it later. Food choices and amounts available Will diminish. If you find food you want, how much will it cost? Everyone should stock up With foods and other items they use. None of us have all the answers, but we can see it coming.

Does not the bible say, live every day like Christ is coming back today, because no one knows the day or the hour. I work every day like it,s coming to an end.

Gerhard Braatz Agree whole heartedly! When I am asked are we living in the last days, my usual reply is I don’t know, but at 13 breaths a minute are you sure you will take you next breath in 5 seconds, or at 66 beats per minute are you sure you will live to the next second! Live as though your next step will be into the presence of the Lord, because even if we are in the last days, your last day may be sooner!

How Much Time Do We Have? -We have Eternity because our souls do not die. Even those who do not believe in God (Creator of All Laws and the only laws that are valid Everywhere in the Universe), at least they should know Conservation of Energy: This law means that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it can only be transformed from one form to another. "Einstein proved that all the energy of the universe is constant and that it can neither be created nor destroyed". The only thing we can do is to do the best we can with what we have and, more important, to choose the "address" where we want to spend Eternity. From what I know there are only two kinds of energy, positive and negative, one has light, love and peace and the other... well... each one of us has Free Will to choose. In this brief passage we have a lot to learn. The school, we call it life but... some still think to get school diploma without homework.😉 The right way to serve present and future "addresses" will be our greatest challenge, because in our next "form", we also know that we will only take with us what we gave... big challenge ahead and little time to prepare body and soul.

Been canning like crazy. Just feel like I need to. Garden isn't doing as well as hoped for, so we too went to the U-pik and another farm we know of. Do whatever you must---

August is our hottest month in KY. But this August has been in the 80's all month so far. garden is dying off. My pole beans took forever to produce. My chickens are barely laying...I feed waterfowl feed to them...50+ hens and Im lucky to get 4 eggs a dag...so odd. Ive even changed feed, no difference in laying. We have 8 apple trees, 4 pear trees, 1 crabapple,4 plum,3 peach, 2 persimmon trees,1 apricot, and 2 necterine trees...The only fruit tree that bared this yr...persimmon...It literally had 1 persimmon on it...We have over 300 strawberry plants, from early, late and everbearing...We didnt get enough strawberries this yr to even can 1 jar of jelly! well our toddler ate some, but with what he ate, we wouldnt have been able to can more than 3 jars.Something is seriously going on.

Organic eggs are $3 here. 99 cents for the regular eggs. A gallon of milk is 97 cents. I'm not seeing any food shortage at all in our area but if the "just in time" food delivery system ever failed for even a few days it would be an all together different story. That's why we never stop preparing.
