Kid Creole and The Big Band...Light & Love...
@vancouverterry91424 жыл бұрын
Kid is fantastic, to be sure, but let me say to the folks who are commenting that they've never seen such superb stagecraft and production, that actually, years ago, such a grand approach was more common: setting a spell with a long deadly groove, really getting down with it, and building on it until it's just too much, then doing it to you all the more. To do with in such style like Kid Creole does takes a lot of care in planning and staging, and as touring got rockier and rockier financially, more and more got cut from the bands that had a similar approach -- horn sections went, percussion sections went, staging, back-up singers, and so on all got cut,. but back when band leaders could play out big ideas and had good ideas worth playing out, it was a more common approach. If you want to go 'WAY back, you can see the venerable Cab Calloway, who Kid probably considered a god (just a guess on my part, but it's a guess I'd bet on), show a little bit about how 'grand' was done with the Nicholas Bros back in the days when grand was the calling card to have, buckle in and check out kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWnceHqqi7Clepo . And check out the live peformance of Kid singing Stool Pigeons -- the lovely Coconuts are in it. I don't know why they're not in this song.

Goes out immaculately and completely attired in black, comes back on immaculately and completely attired in white! Superb showmanship and an excellent band. I miss that approach.

Siegfried was a sorely underrated bass player, and in their day was a highly valued session player. The thumb popping technique he invented went on to become associated its the Seinfeld theme. Although he did not actually play on that, he did watch the show frequently. Roy, on the other hand, was a fine guitarist. He never got credit for his musical talent, instead devoting himself to the big cats and fashion design. Their legacy must include their time spent on stage as musical titans. (In the interest of transparency, Connor O’ Reilly is a well-known grammaticist and music critic. His treatise on the impact of disco on Latin music, while hard to read, is nevertheless considered by many as far more than just a poof-piece).

I saw his 1982 Tour at Portsmouth Guildhall, UK . It was only the 2nd live gig I’d ever seen. Stool Pidgeon was in the charts at the time. blew my 15 year old mind in terms of the theatricality of the performance. and so many people on stage! Quite exotic in the days of four hairy blokes with guitars! Or four equally hairy blokes but with awful makeup and a synthesizer!
