I shower with scent soap dry off with a new towel(bought only for hunting)that has been washed in scent free soap then apply scent deodorant then wear washed sweat pants and shirt in my truck. Once I get to my parking spot for hunting i change into my scent free washed hunting clothes that are in a sealed bin in the back of my truck. I do this routine every hunt I've done it in 0° weather with snow falling. Its greatly improved the class of bucks I see and how comfortable the does are. I wash and dry my hunting clothes after every hunt. Then hang them outside on the branches of a big spruce in my yard. For me it's not just killing a big buck it's the hard work and prep that went into the hunt that I enjoy.

Mitchem XXX is the stuff, I discovered it a few years ago. For topwear, I only wear a tshirt when I climb the tree, once climber is where I want it, I strip off tshirt, put it in a ziplock and drop it to ground. Then spray down with some scent killer, before putting on some scentlock shirt(s). I also built an ozone tote, you can get a ozone generator for $40 on amazon (same one the scentlok guys sell for $200) , I keep my rubber hunting boots and clothes in it, plug it in and run a 5 minute cycle while driving to stand, then dress at the hunt area. You are correct...no leather...no gas stations/convenience store stops... I shower immediately prior to the hunt whenever possible using the scent free soap. I soak my pull rope, backpack and climbing seat in activated charcoal prior to each season. My success rate has skyrocketed over the years by following these principles. Every little thing you do helps

I really like the autumn scent from wildlife research. They make liquid and pods for the washer and dryer sheets plus the scent killer spray bottle before the hunt. And put a little buck urine on the bottom of my boots or doe urine, it’s seemed to always work for me. Just gotta remember not to wear your boots in the truck.
@gen10nine43

Right, whatever you are gonna wear in the woods, don't wear while you are driving to the woods. I personally don't trust man made scents, that is why I prefer cedar and pine needles. Plus, pine needles are free, lol. Occasionally when I find fresh deer crap, I stomp all in it. And whenever I'm putting out my James Valley scent, I rub the extra on my boots also and walk in a circle around may stand at about 15 to 20 yards. Thanks for watching, may all you hunts be exciting.

on the subject of washing clothes: what about white vinegar. helps against bacteria and does not smell. on the subject of soap: You can buy raw soap for little money and no longer has to be processed. the raw soap that my wife ordered was odorless because she wanted to decide for herself what goes in/what she smells like. she had just boiled them up I speak German and have translated everything with google - I hope it is understandable if not let me know and "weidmannsheil"

I really liked this video. What I learned: I will never be good enough to be a bow hunter. The best I can aspire too is a corn pile 250 yards away on the edge of a field with a rifle in my hands while watching football on my laptop. I know the carbon based clothing costs more than a camo shirt and pants from walmart, but it DOES greatly lower your scent trace through the woods. I hunted for years before using it, and the very first time I wore it I, for the first time, had deer actually walking under my stand. I still have my original scent control shirt and pants all these years later. So if I spread that investment over the years it comes up to about what that camo shirt and pants from walmart costs per year. How much is it worth to you to shoot a big buck? Pro Tip: you can usually buy last years model carbon based camo clothes on deep discount sale year-round if you look hard enough online.

Hey, I wish I could afford that stuff, but it's just too pricey for me. Plus if I'm using the wind in my favor, then it's not as important. I'm taking mature deer as it is now, just took a 180 lbs. buck this week, he would have been a mountable 10 pointer, but the left rack was damaged. But, if I come into a little extra money, then I will look into the end of season sales like you suggest. Any particular brand you recommend? Thanks for watching, may all your hunts be exciting.

I wash my stuff in cold water and dry them in the dryer if it's too cold outside. Only have used unscented dryer sheets and live alone. Spray them down and dry like you do. I still use leather boots but hit them with Evercalm along with the bottom of my pants. Hit trees on the way in and out every trip. Sit in my blind and kill them when they come by. All my shots have been under 20 yards, the last one was 5. Seems to work for me.

And that is the key, getting deer on the ground and enjoying your hunting experience. If your system works, then don't change a thing. Just trying to help other hunters think through some things in the hope that it will help them become better hunters without spending a lot of money. There are some places where rubber boots just don't keep your feet warm enough, so leather boots are the way to go, just have to be careful how you approach your stand/blind and protect the scent integrity of where you are hunting. Thanks for watching. U da man!

Great video ! I already left one comment but wanted to add to that … so I washed my gear in (scent a-way Max) but my wife did put it in the dryer, is there anything I can do to make sure no scent got one it ? As well as could the my gear have the blue tent now ? How do I check and eliminate that?
@gen10nine43
@gen10nine43 Жыл бұрын
So a single washing does not destroy your camo, but regular washing and drying would after about a year. It's like buying new jeans, the first couple of washings don't do much, but after a year they are faded. So if your gear is relatively new and your not wearing it often, then you should be fine. But any gear that is several years old begins to have wear and fabric wicking, which gives it the whitish blue hue. Washing in hot water and putting them in the dryer speeds the process up so that they don't last as long. I try to rotate my hunting clothes, and any t-shirts and pants that are older than 3 years I retire to work cloths. That way my gear has good colors and is not faded. Coats tend to last a lot longer because we don't put them in the washing machine. Hope that helps.

I HATE rubber boots! Seems like they never fit right, either don't keep your feet warm or worse yet if it's warm or hot out then it's a sweat box for your feet and inevitably that scent will escape out of the top of the boot!! Worst thing I ever wore to the woods. I wear boots with a breathable synthetic material and I wash them regularly both inside and outside and air dry outside!!
@gen10nine43
@gen10nine43 Жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm right there with you, they are terrible for fit. Wish someone would make a descent fitting boots, but they would probably be a $300 price. But they do greatly shrink ground scent compared to leather boots. But if your path never crosses the trail your hunting, then it really doesn't matter. Thanks for watching, may all your hunts be exciting.

@gen10nine43
@gen10nine43 Жыл бұрын
That is brilliant!!!! I always stomp in fresh deer crap when I find it. However, cover scent can't cover our scent if we are all sweating and stink. Cover scent is most effective is we have little scent ourselves. Regardless, any over powering scent is not good if is makes the deer look for you. The best scent is either mild doe in heat scent or very faint animal scent. You never want to put deer on "high alert." But hanging your hunting gear in a horse barn is a great idea. But I don't have either a barn or horses.

Wind detection is more important than odor control because if you use the wind to your advantage, then the deer will never know what you smell like.
