The game wardens and area managers up here in the northeast WMAs are now conveniently planting food plots within head light distance of their access roads. I guess they’re all in on trying to “manage” the situation. Funny how you always see fresh “tracks” leading right into the edge of the plots that weren’t there the evening before. 😮MDWFP has Colonel Sanders guarding the henhouse on the Divide Section WMA.

Wish we could do something about corn feeding and wild hogs. Corn feeding causes "flushing ' a farm term meaning an increase in eggs ready to be fertilized when sows and particularly gilts breed so we are just making that population grow exponentially . because they litter eight to ten twice a year! And I have been hunting deer for 50+ years in Southwest MS and yes we have the deer but they are so pressured that I am seeing young fully spotted fawns at the end of bow season. that is not normal those does were bread in MAY. We have altered the rut and deer don't wander through the woods looking for acorns any more: they wait until dark and go to the nearest corn feeder.

If we need to take more deer, then why is doe harvest not allowed on the Chickasaw wildlife area?

I agree! The average land in MS does not have too many deer!

I don’t know where he has seen a lot of deer at. Because I don’t ever see a lot of deer. I’m a dog hunter and you people don’t help the dog hunters at all. Now the state has that law were you have to be 100 ft in the woods. Well I’m a Disabled person and I’m about to find me a lawyer to sue you all because you all are trying to get rid of the dog hunting so bad. We the dog hunters spend more money on dog hunting than any other hunter . Yes you have it were a bow hunter can kill does. So all they do is pour their corn out are hunt over a grass field and kill the deer eating while a dog hunter has to shoot him running. At least the dog hunters give them a chance to live.Another thing is why does a still hunter hunt when it’s dog season. I tell you why they are getting in front of the dogs so they can kill the deer they should not be allowed in the woods. The dog hunters spend way more money than any other hunters and they have the shortest season of all. Now I see a big problem with that. Yes all you guys do is hunt the Delta. I never see any of you guys get checked by a game warden or a federal game warden. A dog hunter gets checked everyday sometimes two or three times a day. And yes you guys can sit there and talk about shit Who wants to hear him sit there and talk about lots of deer when we don’t have that many.

Nothing like having your neighbors claiming there's too many deer on their 12 acres while they shoot every deer they see! We have no tagging system and therefore no serious accountability for deer harvest here in MS. Meanwhile baiting deer is legal here, so subsequently anyone with a backyard and a deer feeder is a hunter now! It's very frustrating as a landowner to try to manage a deer herd under this agenda.
@camwinston524819 күн бұрын
I agree about the "feeding" and the small parcel neighborhood issues...but a ###$ tag system isn't going to help with or change any of that...just make it more beaurucratic ,more frustrating, harder to just go hunting and more expensive..if you really want to change things as far as management then we are going to have to repeal the baiting..and I'm afraid that will not happen..yep everyone/many with ten acres or even less has a deer stand now..or just a wildlife viewing station if they don't hunt..but isn't that essential how MOST everyone is "hunting " now..a box blind, feeder,food plot VEIWING station. The only difference from one spot to another just depends on how big the overall property and how MUCH money or work you put into it on the front end. A tag system isn't going to help or change one thing but invite more red tape..we do have more deer now than we have ever had in most places and what needs to happen to help as far as management and herd health is for people to get off their butts and start taking more does instead of just sitting there and "viewing them..the balance is way out of whack in not all but many locations because of this and all this ",feeding" but if we don't do not one $$#@ thing the deer will still take care of themselves inspite of what we humans do..I'd proffer your neighbors are probably actually helping the herd with the exception of the added pressure in the area making them harder to see in daylight or in front of your "stand" ..you might need to rethink your tactics to adjust for actual conditions.

@camwinston5248 Where exactly is this place where there are so many deer that you're having problems? Your property? just wondering because my family and I currently own 7 hunting properties in MS for a total of about 2000 acres Not all, but some are in fabulous areas I might add, and not a one of them seems to have "too many" deer. Also, without a tagging system how are limits enforceable in the first place? We may as well have no limit at all! And as far as "my neighbors helping me, I've got some great ones, but no that's not always the case. Some are real nightmares! I've got one tract that we struggle to see decent numbers much less get a buck past 2 yrs old due to a couple of small landowners that kill pretty much every buck and doe they see in the name of "management". Every buck is either a cull or a trophy according to them regardless of age class. All this on 38- and 25-acre parcels! How are they helping me or anyone? I've got another great property where my neighbor has started selling hunts. For $200 a day you can shoot a buck and doe every day! They kill 6-8 2yr old bucks and as many or more does a year off 100 acres joining my 350. Is this helping me? If so, how? Again, there is no tagging system and therefore very little accountability for any deer harvest in MS. Frankly, where does the state get their harvest data and how could it be accurate? MS does have some great hunting if you've got the right places to hunt. I do have some, and I'm fortunate and grateful for that fact, but without better management, my land and most of MS will never reach its fullest potential. Yeah! I'll rethink my hunting tactics Thanks for your reply!

@@camwinston5248 Hey! I forgot to mention, I also lease a farm in Kansas! We get some giant bucks up there! If I offered to bring you as my guest, would you go? Or does their tagging system make it too bureaucratic, frustrating, or just too hard to hunt for you? Let me know. Thanks again for your reply!

@BigdaddyE71 hey that's just absolutely outstanding..but kansas ,that state,those deer and that area has absolutely not $#@@ to do with the state of MS or the deer in it...tell me your not one of these trophy fellows who thinks if we would just only do this..or that, then we would have big giant bucks running everywhere too...and I've been to Kansas multiple times. So don't try to give me the my deer at home would be 180in score too..if just only if my neighbors didn't have a feeder and if only we had a tag system..just drop it and get realistic. We have what genetics we have in MS and you're not going to change it AND we have more deer than we've ever had..period..and there isn't any tag system that's going to change or help anything...but more red tape garbage. Period. If you want to help something start taking a lot more does.
@BigdaddyE7118 күн бұрын
@@camwinston5248 Oh. I see. it's a no go for you in Kansas. Too much red tape? Again. Where is this your place in MS that has too many deer? Is it your property? How many acres do you own? Maybe I could buy 10-12 acres of it, put a feeder out and start shooting as many deer as I can off my back porch? Would that help? Also, I never said I expect any bucks here in MS to be 180s. What I WOULD like to see is more bucks making it to maturity. Period. Just curious. How many mature bucks do you take each year? Maybe you can explain how with such variable habitat throughout MS, the average landowner here benefits by the collective efforts of he and all the adjacent landowners "shooting more does" WITHOUT limiting their buck harvest helps everyone. In a lot of cases, as I said prior, they're already shooting everything they see. So. Do they need to shoot more? Thanks again for your reply!
