@@ARFTT update. Got my second drone. It worked great. No noise, but then after a minor crash one motor did the same thing! I took it apart (obviously well designed for easy repair) and pushed a gear back onto a shaft. It seems to be an intentional failure point to protect the gears. if I would have known, my first drone would have been repaired in 30 seconds. Before flying, you should turn it over, remove the lens covers, and make sure that the little white gear is seated properly with a pen tip or something. Also I can confirm 30-minute flight times with no camera. At least indoors just hovering.

It was a few years ago I got into the drones while picking up a parts for a trucks restoration that is still on going... That project began simple enough and before I knew it I had something super spectacular but it consumes my whole shop even now. At this semi abandoned warehouse there were parts I was after that were scattered all over the place on the floor as were a few pallets of trash. Sticking out one of the boxes I saw the edge of a pretty large box it had some spray paint on it covering what was in the box. Since I paid a guy at his house for the parts after first looking the stuff over I called the guy back I was there alone and asked about what I found in the box which turned out to be a Holy Stone drone. The thing seemed to be new in the box and I have 2 other drones I got there that are still in their original plastic unopened. The guy said it's all shit in the boxes on the pallets take what I want he didn't care. I still fly that HS drone to this very day I even built a custom wooden case out of thin plywood I have on hand all the time. I was hooked on drones the thing still flies amazing over other stuff I bought even lately. I like the Hexacopter my buddy has so I ordered one for Christmas for me this year 2022. I am fond of the Holy Stone variety of drones. They make a large Gray colored drone can't remember the model and I want to get that one when I return to work in the spring. The 4rth free drone I got one of my customers literally left here new in the box is a small drone called a Phantom 6 drone with a fair size camera on it. Its a little folding drone and the thing literally flies for about 45 min on the single battery I got with it. I have not been able to locate batteries for it yet. This thing has a nice video card slot the camera takes amazing pics and videos better than anything I have now. Again it was let here it was another free drone.

I bought this drone as a true novice. I've never even held a controller. I was ready to chuck it after trying to read the instructions. Luckily I saw your Amazon review and found your KZbin video. Very helpful!! Thank you. Right now the camera has stopped working. It has bumped a couple walls but nothing severe. Hope I can figure that out. Also it doesn't seem like straight is straight. It always seems to drift at an angle. Hopefully resetting the orientation will help. Thanks again

I can't tell you how much I appreciate that feedback, Patty! I started doing these videos in hopes that they would save someone the frustrations that I've experienced and make their lives easier. I'm so glad to hear you decided not to chuck it 😉 Flying will definitely get easier the more you do it and believe it or not, they get easier to fly the bigger and more expensive the drones get. If you can learn to fly the D50, you can fly anything! As for the drift, try re-calibrating the drone on level ground. Then make sure you spend some time getting it "trimmed" properly. Tap the trim button that's opposite of the direction the drone wants to drift. Do it in small increments because sometimes it takes a second for it to respond to the trim input. It's worth spending a little time getting it dialed in to make future flights less frustrating. Thanks again for the feedback! Happy flying!

So just when I was getting the hang of this thing (about 2 hours flight time with no problems), the drone just flew away on me ☹️. I had it over a large, clear field (probably 300 yards long 200 yards wide) just south of some townhouses. Hardly any wind. I had been practicing quite a bit taking it up and out, maneuvering a bit and bringing it back to practice landing in the same spot. Did that 5 times with successful landings, including one time I took it up over 100 feet and took a cool picture of the neighborhood. I changed the battery and then took it back up. Well, I got it to about 100 or so feet up and about 50 feet away and I noticed it kept going up. I pushed the stick all the way down but it did not descend at all. It didn't appear to respond to the controls at all. It must have gone up more than 300 feet and headed north over the neighborhood. As far as I could tell, it never stopped ascending until I couldn't see it anymore. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I wonder if they'll replace it. I had literally taken it that high 5 minutes before and it came right back. I guess it's good or only costed $50...
@ARFTT4 жыл бұрын
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to you! I've had that happen before (though not with this particular drone). It's possible that somebody in one of the townhouses turned something on that interfered with the signal. It's hard to say. Were you able to follow it and retrieve it? Did you have any luck contacting DEERC?

I believe in reality the DeerC D50 is the Holy Stone HS710c not to be confused with their HS720D model. I really think its just the cameras and batteries are slightly diff as from what I can tell that is. If put my Deerc D50 next to the HS710 their is only a slight cosmetic diff not much at all. I have yet to put the 2 side by side. But from what I can tell they are awfully similar.

That's really hard to say with any sort of certainty. I have cheap "give-away" drones that have survived countless beatings over several years and then I have some expensive "high-end" drones that have had problems right out of the box. From what I can tell the D50 is well-built and sturdy and customer support from DEERC seems to be really good if you do ever have problems. The only down side on this drone is I don't love how easy it is for the FPV module to pop out in a crash. As for your link, I believe the model I reviewed is exactly the same as the one you referenced, with the addition of the carrying case.

The trim buttons are the little white arrows underneath and to the side of the virtual sticks and the calibration button is a little crosshair-looking symbol on the row of icons at the top of the screen (far right). Hope that helps!

I haven’t pushed its full range, but in my testing I got pretty far away without losing signal. I think 327 feet is probably accurate. If you're flying with your phone via fpv, you're also limited to wifi range. You're probably going to lose wifi signal before you lose sight of it since it's such a small transmitter. This one's definitely designed for flying far away. Hope that helps.

Yep, this one does come with a case. My unboxing in the video is exactly how it arrived, the fabric, foam-filled case is what the drone is actually packaged in for shipping. Thank you for the review. Think I will get one for my son... Or is there something better for similar budget?
@ARFTT4 жыл бұрын
Great question. Is your son experienced with drones already or would this be his first one? In my opinion, some of the D50's advertised "bells and whistles" don't work all that well but even without them, it's still a durable drone that you can fly fpv, and that can take onboard 1080 video (watch my modification video on how to do that). That's a pretty good deal. If you ONLY want to learn how to fly, there are some much more durable and inexpensive options that don't have an onboard camera or any of the fancy features of the D50. If you just want to get him something he can beat the snot out of while he learns to fly, I'd check out the H31 by JJRC. I've put that thing through the wringer and that's my go-to for teaching friends how to fly. It's tough as nails, flies for a long time and it's waterproof. It just doesn't have a camera. Hope that helps!

Great review ! However, you refer the little back button (compass) as the calibration when in fact, it is mainly a Headless Mode button, and it's unfortunate because i'm having trouble using it and i would have liked hearing your thoughts on this. Can anyone help for this matter ? How and when to activate Headless Mode, and how do you know it's on. Because 1 time out of 2, it doesn't work... thank you
@ARFTT4 жыл бұрын
Great question Jonathan. Yeah sorry, that was one of the things I didn't go into detail on. I think I briefly discussed my general opinion on headless mode in the video, but basically...I hate it. I've flown a LOT of different drones and they all seem to have quirks with headless mode. In my opinion, headless mode is more of a gimmick to make it "easy" for people who are learning how to fly (though it just seems confusing most of the time). The idea is the drone abandons the conventional control inputs and flies in relation to the controller, regardless of its orientation. For instance, if the drone is pointing to the left (as you look at it) and you press forward on the right stick, normally the drone would fly further to the left as that's the "forward" command and that's the direction it's facing. In headless mode, the drone doesn't care that it's facing left. When you press up on the right stick, it's supposed to fly away from you (the controller), so the drone would continue facing left but fly to the right so it moves further away from you. Does that make sense? There are plenty of awesome KZbin videos out there that do a great job of explaining headless mode in more detail. It pretty much works the same no matter what drone it's on. If you're serious about learning to fly drones, I would highly recommend you learn how to use the conventional controls. Even if you crash a lot, you're at least going to learn the same sort of control inputs that all high-end drones are using. It's worth building the muscle memory. That's just my 2 cents.

@ARFTT4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, that's an interesting one Joe. Did you go through the steps to calibrate it? It's possible that the calibration is off and it's trying to correct itself right away. If you haven't re-calibrated, I'd start there. Another possible scenario is if you get hair or something around one of the motor shafts it can cause that motor to not spool up properly. If neither of those are the issue, it might be a manufacturing defect. If that is the case, I've found DEERC's customer support to be fantastic so I'm sure they'll make it right if you reach out to them.

The Amazon listing says "327 feet" for the max transmitter range. How high does this drone go please ?
@ARFTT3 жыл бұрын
Aside from the legal issues of staying below 400 feet, here in the US, that's still a bit of a Catch 22. Let me explain: DEERC lists the range at 100 meters (300 feet). The problem is, this drone is pretty small which makes it difficult to see when it starts to get far away. It's got decent LED lights but it still gets really small, really fast (and I have pretty good eyes). In addition to its size, it uses a wifi signal to transmit the video signal back to your phone. Wifi doesn't have a fantastic range (especially with small, low powered transmitters like the one onboard) so your video drops out pretty quick. What does all that mean? You might technically be able to control it to 300 feet but you'll probably lose video around 50-75 feet and it's going to be really difficult to see any farther than that. I'd keep it below 50 feet if it were me. Hope that helps.

Awesome 👌🏼 Can anyone tell me how to keep it stable at one point? Thanks
@ARFTT4 жыл бұрын
When you say "keep it stable" do you mean like a GPS position hold? This drone doesn't have onboard GPS so it doesn't actually know where it's located. If you're referring to drift, you can use the trim buttons on the back of the remote to fine-tune its hover so it stays in one spot indoors (but it still wont be able to compensate for wind outdoors). Hope that helps!

Why your drone doesn't hold altitude? Did you crash it?
@ARFTT4 жыл бұрын
I didn't really have it trimmed in the video but it does a pretty decent job of holding altitude.

Mine don't flip but it says it does I got same one the Dee rc d50 with the case and two battery packs ..but shit is not what I thought it would be its kind cheap made and like I said don't do 360 flips
@ARFTT3 жыл бұрын
That's odd @Dannyboi EL. The flip function isn't something I ever use so I can't really say why it wouldn't be working on your D50. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? I've found DEERC to be really responsive and helpful. As for "cheap", I've found that you can't completely judge a drone by the way it feels. I have a JJRC H31 that feels ridiculously light and "cheap" but the thing is practically indestructible. Being light isn't necessarily a bad thing for something that flies. I would definitely reach out to DEERC if you have any problems and if you purchased it from Amazon, their return policy is awesome.

Well, never mind, just watch your vid a second time, and saw where that case came from. I must have an older or cheaper version. I have no case.

Yeah i got the drone for Christmas and it had a case also merry Christmas
@ARFTT4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the one that I bought is essentially the exact same set as yours (from what DEERC told me) except they included the carrying case. I can definitely understand the awkwardness in transport. Though I haven't seen it listed separately anywhere, I'll bet you could contact DEERC customer service and order it separately. Maybe they sell it as a "part"? Not sure but it's probably worth reaching out. Here's the DEERC contact page: www.deerc.com/en/about/Contactus/ContactDeerc.html

That's odd @Craig Cluley. It's odd that one would do it, but even odder that they both wouldn't. Have you tried reaching out to DEERC's customer service? They've been super helpful in my experience and with other customers I've heard from. I would start there.

In most cases those phone brackets R all cheap junk & barely move or stay put. In this case I like mine the thing is still better than my other video phone drones.

sad that it 104 dollers now
@ARFTT3 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this is a fluke or how long it's going to last @Donut Gaming YT, but I just went and checked Amazon and the D50 is showing up as being $9.95!! (Not a type-o). Check out this link and see if you're seeing the same thing I am: www.amazon.com/DEERC-Waypoints-Altitude-Quadcopter-Batteries/dp/B088D2VJXP I know DEERC made some upgrades to the newer model of the D50 so that explains the price increase, but that's an unbelievable price for the older model if it's actually legit. Let me know!!!

@Hyda15, the D50 weighs 178g/6.28oz. I don't know about the UK, but here in the US that's under the weight that requires a registration.
