It would be really awesome to see a Axis deer farm
@justinrutland48442 жыл бұрын

That was very informative. I have added the fallow into my plans. Having hill country land and somewhere to hunt is the goal. Kicking out fallow on the side sounds like an awesome business plan. I can’t thank yall enough for that episode! Thank you.

I just learned about fallow deer. Being a Christian I think it’s really cool. I never really thought about the food that Isaac ate

What is the major demand? Is it hunting, meat, petting zoos, or is it mostly just a breeder market?
@brandtbuchanan55262 жыл бұрын
Hunting is where they're selling breeder bucks for those crazy prices. They're tasty but not $30,000 tasty

The reason they are so hardy is they have been bred since ancient Greece with weakling deer culled out. It probably contributed to them needing less feed too. If famine strikes the land and you don't have enough grain only those that eat sparingly are going to survive in a man's herd until better times. We forget they have been domesticated for perhaps 4,000 plus years. Persian Fallow deer have to be resistant to tick carried disease in the wild and are probably the only truly wild Fallow deer left. If you ordered venison at a European tavern you got Fallow deer with Red Deer the domain of nobles.

I see a lot of potential for perma-culture if these deer have the potential to be feral

didn't cervid farming give us CWD or am I missing something?
@Shaddiewolf3 жыл бұрын
Just because a disease was first discovered in a captive population does not mean that deer farming created the disease. All diseases are first discovered at some point. It was simply easier to identify in a captive herd because researchers had the ability to more closely observe individuals who had died.

Ìts hard earned money with high risk. Exspenses are high. Food mostly. Then vets etc...

fallow deer looks like they have some sheep jeans in them

Can you please explain why you artificially inseminate instead of just letting your buck of choice go out with the does, just like you do with the clean-up buck?
@deanbristow45962 жыл бұрын
You can then put one buck over 100's of doe's in one year. Plus sell the straws of semen to other breeders for a price

A buck will eat more than a doe unless doe is with fawn.
