Bajirao was one of the best Indian generals who fought over 40 wars and never lost one. India used to be one of the richest countries in the world before the British looted it so the generals lived like Kings too. Mastani was a different King's daughter, a warrior princess(she was illegitimized because of her mother's religion) and fought next to Bajirao in defense of her kingdom and consequently they both fell in love and had a symbolic marriage using a dagger (it's traditionally allowed for Rajput women to marry a man's dagger as his proxy since Rajput men were born warriors and used to be away for years fighting wars). Priyanka is the general's first wife so initially she didn't have a clue but during the dance Mastani and Bajirao were making their attraction towards each other very obvious and that's when it dawned on her.

Priyanka is the king's first wife, and shortly after this scene, the girl dancing (Deepika) becomes his second. Fun fact: although details are dramatized, the king's character is actually based off of a real king that lived and a detail that people know him by is that both of his wives' were pregnant at the same time. The king's name was Bajiro and the second wife's name was Mastani, hence the name of the movie!

i just want to inform you guys one thing that im Bollywood actors are not the singers of the song tgey just lip syncs. Playback singer sings the song. Here the singer of this song is Shreya Ghoshal. Deepika is just an actress she is not a singer same as other actors u see in these video. Concept here un India us different from west as original singers don't appear on screen coz these songs r part of the movies. So for next time please remember this actors r not the original singers someone else is singing as playback singer!! That place isn’t a set, it’s a real palace in India :) also, the guys character is a king. The girl is a princess and is dancing for him, as king’s back in the day had traditional dancers dance for them. The woman watching from above is his wife. She’s suspicious because she thinks the king is falling in love with the dancer. This is a problem because the princess that’s dancing for him is Muslim, and he’s Hindu.

I think if you watch the movie and understand the context behind the song it becomes 10x more meaningful. The "King" played by ranveer singh marries the girl (her name is Mastani) that is dancing but Priyanka Chopra is his first wife aka the Queen. The song is talking about how when the King looked at Mastani, she feel in love. Also, how Mastani's love story will be told for ages to come. AKA she is telling everyone that the King and Mastani are in love. That's why the Queen is jealous or worried that she is no longer the Kings love.
