Chaos was never a villain. He was angered that the knuckles tribe attacked the chao and tried stealing the master emerald so chaos killed them all. He then went to resting again where then eggman turned him evil by putting him in under his control. It was only when super sonic defeated him chaos turned good against because the good super energy freed him from the control of eggman. He was really a anti-villain
