Neil Treacy is joined by Bernard Jackman and Jonny Holland on the RTÉ Rugby podcast as we recap Ireland's 31-7 Guinness Six Nations win against Wales.
The panel examine how Ireland are setting themselves apart with a dominant defence, but also ask whether their lack of discipline could come back to haunt them.
We look at England's defeat to Scotland ahead of Ireland's Round 4 trip to Twickenham, while we also discuss the continued poor form of France, who were held to a draw by Italy in Lille.

I think this Irish team were holding back a little and not showing everything they had ahead of the England game. The game was in the bag, why show our hand for the next game.

I don’t think they were. They just found it hard to break through Wales tackling since they stood off and didn’t buy the decoy runners. They tackled hard and we made a few mistakes. Had to defend hard ourselves for about 10 mins. England will be right up for this. It’s a chance for them as it is for any team struggling a bit to turn their fortunes around by beating us. That’s the target we have on our backs now and teams with a lot of talent like England are dangerous. Our greatest enemy will be complacency especially in rugby you have to have your intensity up to a certain pitch for every game like this.

Not for a minute and that's being disrespectful to Wales. You want to ensure you win the championship and it may come down to bonus points

@oshead your comment is ridiculous. Why would they hold back a little in a very important international test match at home? I’m quiet sure they gave everything they had on the day. They’ll have a few new ideas for England, but disrespectful to Wales and Ireland to say they held back a little.

@@baunkoipond8058 Maybe my comment is ridiculous for not being clear to you. They held back, not on effort but on plays and moves and any other tricks they might have in the bag for future games.

If other International Rugby podcasts can be portrayed in a venue other than a vehicle or a bedroom, why cant the Ireland National Broadcaster follow suit .....especially since they are trying to promote the game and it being their highest audience participation.

Can we please talk about Racism in Rugby. Take last weekend - it took almost a quarter of a century for World Rugby to appoint an Italian to referee a Six Nations match - why did it take so long? Moreover, why was this Italian expected to address the players in English? The second question is particularly apt when you see an English referee in Lille, refereeing a French Team and an Italian team while screaming at them in English... and expecting to be understood? Why? That "Why" is particularly important when one realises that the whole of the French team play in French rugby; AND Italy has two players in their wider squad who do not play their club rugby either in Italy or France. Rugby players are picked for their skill, talent, athleticism and power. NONE of those have anything to do with being a linguist. Referees, on their other hand are only picked for their (presumed) familiarity with the laws of Rugby. Why can they NOT at least ATTEMPT to communicate with players in the players' native language, like the Italian was expected to? World Rugby has pretensions to becoming a Global Sport. That will never happen as long as Rugby insists that ALL players MUST understand English....

Do you have any examples of racism in rugby though?
@michaelodonnell824
@michaelodonnell824 3 ай бұрын
@@nidgeot9968 Firstly the Language issue. Secondly, that there was a lag of almost a quarter of a century between Italy joining the Six Nations and an Italian being appointed to referee a Six Nations match. Thirdly, the idea that it's perfectly OK for the descendants of Slavers using a "Negro Spiritual" to celebrate their Arrogance... Fourthly, in the Rassie Erasmus "Referee tweet" controversy, he called out the Racist actions of a Referee, especially in the Referee's treatment of the Black South African Captain... And Erasmus's claims were never investigated. Fifthly, I refer you to the testimony of ex England international, Luther Burrell and the less than polite comments he regularly received from his team mates. There is ample evidence of Racism in Rugby (and every other sport) but the media, frankly, don't care...
@jmo8934
@jmo8934 3 ай бұрын
So that’s a long diatribe you’ve written with accusations of racism with zero evidence to go with it. Then you rant about referees speaking to players in English. You are pretending that you don’t know that English is in effect the world’s universal language and certainly the rugby worlds. Most rugby countries speak English and most of the French and Italian players do too. But you already know this and are looking for attention in the KZbin comments section for some reason.

They finished third because they had an extremely easy group and South Africa played extremely average . Ireland lost by 4 points to a rugby legacy team who arguably had a forward pass try. Ireland beat the eventual WC winners. And out of 34 games ireland have lost 3.
