Firstly you have a great attitude about reacting to problems on the road. It probably helps that you are traveling as a family and can offer each other mutual support. My concern would be around your GVM - your vehicle must be near (and probably over) the limit when you are fully loaded like this. The slipping clutch was an ominous sign and is certainly a trip stopping problem in itself. If I was in your shoes I'd do a thorough review of all components in the suspension and transmission to ensure that there are no weak links anywhere because experience shows that if it can go wrong it will go wrong. I wish you all the best for sorting the problems and continuing your travels.

Yeah, freaking out helps no-one! Stop, drop and roll. The suspension is fine, except for a rear clunk, but hey she just drove West Africa and is 18 years old.

Nice video production, well done. And such a relaxed attitude in the face of adversity; we should all be so composed.

Thanks! I am happy we appeared relaxed, I know there were times out there when I wanted to freak out a bit.

Great video! Are you running a rear sway bar on your rig?
@OverlandingMan5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes we have a rear sway bar and air bags but are considering upgrading the springs for lift and stability.

Crazy how small the world seems sometimes ! The blue Merc from the background (on start video) I've seen it in Greece, last winter. Sorry for your badluck ! I'm pretty sure that soon, you'll be ammuzed by these experiences and will be just another story to tell ! Like someone told me often "don't worry, tomorrow could be worse". ☺

Absolutely - a very small world. We worked together as a family, stayed calm and worked hard to get the Landy moving again,

Whatever happened to the friends who left you behind? Did they not notice you had vanished or is there some other story?
@OverlandingMan4 жыл бұрын
They were casual acquaintances, we never saw or heard from them again. I think they just thought we had stopped to camp for the night.

Great insight into breakdown. I really love how you stay positive in this usually stressful situations. I guess it comes from experience of being on-road for so long. I hope our trails cross sometime.

Thanks Darjo. Yes, we have been in a similar situation before, but never so isolated. My philosophy is "stop,drop and roll". Assess the situation and find a solution. Getting emotional helps no-one.
