Defenders of Dynatron City aired on February 22, 1992 on Fox as part of Fox Kids Network (Bobby's World, Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes, Peter Pan & the Pirates, Taz-Mania, Beetlejuice, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures, Muppet Babies). It was rebroadcast on May 16, 1992. It was later syndicated on the weekend of Thanksgiving, November 26, 1992 on Bohbot Entertainment's Kid's Day Off syndicated package.

That was a really fun pilot! The premise was original and cool, the character designs were endearing and the writing was surprisingly funny and charming! It's a real shame this never became a series, because this easily could've been one of the best cartoons of the era given the chance.

I remember watching this when it aired, then completely forgot about it til I saw the thumbnail. Great art/animation, & wild premise of people liking hideous mutations, shown by the family. I felt bad for the heroes when Monkey Kid didn't free them, then had the accident. But it worked out for the greater good. 🙂 14:13 violent thought. 🤨Nice writing- failed attempt before the finale, w/MK helping lead. Ha, the sellout line. Thanks for this. 😎

It might have to do with the NES game. It was made by Lucas arts and apparently and apparently it was completely awful so it may have given the show a bad reputation. Also I heard that production on this cartoon pilot was absolute hell and Whoopi Goldberg regretted doing it And Christopher Walken got so frustrated that he walked away from it.

Also based on everything I've heard the production I went into the NES game and this pilot was not a good experience for anyone involved. Not sure if it was a issue with Lucas arts or with Marvel interfering with the project or what. I just heard that working on this particular franchise was not enjoyable.

I believe Lucasfilm/Disney does not own the rights to this special since DiC distributed this on VHS through Buena Vista Home Video (Disney's distribution division) during the 1990s. DiC was purchased back from Disney in 2000 by its president & CEO Andy Heyward with an investment by Bain Capital. In 2008, DiC was absorbed into Cookie Jar Group, then Cookie Jar was absorbed into DHX Media in 2012, which changed its name to WildBrain in 2019, one year before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
