Here’s the defense against a tackle in a street fight. As shown in the video, you want to lower your center of gravity in order to prevent your attacker from tackling you. Your footwork is also very important against a tackle attempt.
If your attacker manages to grab one of your legs, you will need to fight back quickly to avoid getting slammed to the ground. A great tactic is to grab the head of your attacker and twist it as he is trying to take you down. You need to try keeping your balance by lowering your center of gravity and spreading your feet all while neck cranking your opponent.
If your attacker manages to grab both of your legs, this becomes a much scarier situation. It might go so quickly that your chances of hitting the ground are pretty high. If you are in this situation try to neck crank your attacker or eye gouge him as quickly as you can.
Note that if you do fall to the ground - make sure to strike your attacker while going down. You need to create as much damage as you can at any moment of the altercation. If you fall to the ground always continue to fight back!

Yes at Krav Maga I also learned the sprawl against the 'both legs tackle', I think it comes from MMA. I found it pretty effective and pretty easy to do and you can bring him to the ground that way, you can decide to get him in a guillotine choke then as well. I haven't seen these techniques yet and it's probably way better if there any other threats around. I love the scenario training Nick Grossos I'd love to see that again!

A swing kick to the face works well. Also, jump to the side and make the bull rusher pay with a judo chop to the neck. Never let anyone as close to you as is show in this video. If you are a super good athlete, jump to the side like a bullfighter and front kick the SOB in the knee as he goes by. I like that technique because it keeps the jerk away from you, and you might get lucky and blow his knee out. If you hurt his knee and he stays bent over, give the back of his neck a few taps. Hey, this is an attack and you want to hurt him before he hurts you.

Very good video, do you feel this is more effective than sprawling or giving the attacker a quick short upper cut to the face as they are lunging forward and down towards your legs.
@whitebeltcentral125
@whitebeltcentral125 4 жыл бұрын
This video is NOT good... But your skepticism is. Hang on to that. This is a terrible way to defend a takedown. What I think you MAY be referring to with the uppercut thing - a common technique in MMA is to lunge and tap the knee to threaten the takedown, then swing a big overhand to tag them on the chin when they instinctively sprawl. That ACTUALLY does happen. An uppercut wouldn't be as feasible because it doesn't mesh well with faking the takedown... It's.. hard to explain. Look up "fake the takedown and punch KO"

Most of the people go for this takedown, they tuck their head in your stomach. So unless you wanna pull up on their head with your hands underneath them, risky because they could bite, it's really risky to have this idea in your head in a real fight.

as a wrestler the guy trying to describe a single and double leg was horrible while a wrestling take down you are trying to drive towards and up (then the finish you are trying to do typically turning the corner) of them he describes it as towards and down which isn’t even an effective takedown making sprawling easier. Basically instead of doing a wack crossface literally just sprawl and then pummel them

Hey bro im going to keep it real. If your saying this works against an unskilled attacker with know clue ok. But even with a 16 year old kid who has a high school wrestling back round it will not work. A wrestler has a strong neck and there take downs are extremely explosive. Im telling all of you put a helment on and practice this with restiance 4 rounds 2 minutes. and you will see that it will not be as successful as if you would train MMA and leaen how to sprawl then I would be sold. You have to train with someone not allowing you to do it then you will truly see the truth instead of theorized tactics.

yeah man i agree with you Anthony. I trained in boxing and have been able to get away with a quickly timed side step and perfectly timed shot to peoples ear or back of the ear as they miss. I am not sure it requires fast foot work but i normally am sliding back as i am being rushed so they have to explode but they already have exploded so it loses the explosion side step and pivot. The problem with all of these things is you either know how to fight or you don't If you don't the chances of you being taken down is almost every time. Also you can't be afraid to execute what you do know which normally comes in the form of you have sparred and are not afraid of being hit. Another technique i have used is sliding back holding a arm out like a stiff arm and as soon as my hand touches the any part of him i sprawl. I only did it that way is to make sure i don't sprawl to early or telegraph a sprawl that makes him do something else.

Please pin my comment as I'm very curious to get peoples oppinion on this So in my karate curriculum we have a "tackle defense" situation where the guy runs in and tackles you and as your defense you bring one leg back to a front stance for a brace, and at the same time you wrap your arms around the top of them (or do and underhook on the opposite side that their head is on) and then step.back with the other leg into another somewhat deep stance and pivot sideways and redirect them off to the side, (its using.their momentum to throw them,then that underhook.comes in hand as your can lift it up and this twists them around) Now in class we did do this technique in a line drill at about maybe 50%speed and it actually was working( the stepping back twice is a little.clunky unless you are good at it so I often just step back once and throw them.that way easily and fast. so it made me wonder why not do.this in mma vs sprawling? I'm a big guy and teenage guys were tossing me around and it defenitely didnt feel good and I think its be a good deterrent for takedown attempts if you constantly get tossed.. any reason why someone wouldn't use this? Is sprawling just more natural to.rely on as it doesnt take as much thought? But if that's true then you think.they woudont teach something in class that was only effective sometimes, I dont know

know you can not throw a knee as you need center of gravity to get any serious leverage on the knee. IMO the best way to deal with one knee being grabbed is instead of falling back is dropping all your weight and folding both knees while trying to lean forward and i think you might be in a good enough position to let his momentum follow through and reverse it. Although none of this shit works if it is just anybody who has never trained.

As somebody who fights often (mma/wrestling) I always find the best way to stop takedowns is simply dropping all your dead weight and basically sliding backwards while widening your legs. In other words create a heavy wide base to drop all your weight on. Do this and suddenly for the other guy instead of tackling just you it'll feel like he's tackling 7 of you.

I have seen 3 of your videos; fundamental striking, groundfighting and defense against comman attacks. Very good videos! I saw your defense against the tackle on the videos. I think from my experience that the sprawl is much better because your enemy will have forward pressure and fast speed so you have to move your feet backwards and do a sprawl. it is the only defense that I think will work if your enemy really try to take you down with a low tackle. Sprawl is also about to have good footwork. I saw in your video that your partner managed to grab your leg almost every time. If you had try the sprawl instead I think he would not managed to grab your leg. You can be up on your feet very quick after a sprawl.That is better then letting your enemy grab your leg. Just my advice to you. Take care and keep up the good work you are doing!

I don't know, the attacker had bad form and it assumes that he'll just hang his head there long enough to grab it. A good shot is going to come up with the leg as fast as you can so that head is going to be moving fast. I don't know of any single leg tackles anyway, single leg attacks are usually to raise the leg and dump the opponent over.

Guys when you fight don't do this if you wanna never get body slammed in a fight get your head low when they run at you so you will still have a chance to wrestle them atleast and try to push down there head as far as you can before you do this because they can still body slam you if they have the position also just punch and move out the way don't get close enough for them to get a chance to body slam you if they run at you like a retard upper cut them or hit them in there stomach and they will drop down right there and make sure you lean back if they try to punch you.

This is not how you defend the takedown at all You throw your hips back going for a neck crank makes the takedown way easier. In a real fight this does not work. I have over 10 years of grappling. VS someone who doesn't know what they are doing taking an hour to learn a good sprawl will make it impossible for anyone who is not a wrestler to take you down then after you do it and they are on their knees you just run away. Even if the neck crank does work which it won't most of the time you don't want to kill someone. I see he is trying to do a wrestling crossface defense but that doesn't work at all without the sprawl he is doing a sprawl crossface by moving into the takedown its dumb.

Just my two cents as a former wrestling coach. Step back the leg on the head side each time. The head is the driving force on a double leg and on a single leg not doing so puts the leg in front of his face for an easy grab. Its harder to grab a leg opposite your head.

Good advice. Many wrestling counter moves are also effective: sprawls, cross-face, pry bar, crotch lock to a sprawl reversal or tilt, front headlock to rib cradle/reversal/cement mixer/shrug, three quarter nelson, over and under hooks to a throw, ect. Also, a knee to an incoming opponent is effective. Keeping your head lever lower than his and side stepping your adversary is also advantageous. Do agree with the aforementioned attacks to the head and neck regions, though. Front headlock choke outs suffice, too. Best option, run away from conflict and avoid litigious proceedings, along with monetary demise.

Good advice. As a practitioner of karate & a former free style wrestler I know what the leg take downs mean. So many ppl are learning jujitsu now so more and more guys are trying these types of take downs in street fights. striking to the back of the neck is good too.

Breaking this down, the defender's forearm block orients his leading forearm in one direction, hand up. If that fails, the next response is turning the attacker's head, which requires the defender to use the same leading forearm in hand-down orientation. It would be worth exploring how to make this transition.

This is why wrestling is the most dominant base in a 1v1 fight, you can easily take them down and ground and pound. Jiujitsu can do the same but their takedowns and defense is inferior, a lot of guys pull guard in competition because of this. Though some schools offer a hybrid bjj base with heavy wrestling and least amount of judo, this will be standard 'bjj' someday.

Wow what bs. If a wrestler has a single leg and the other guy has no experience then it’s 99% for sure the inexperienced guy is going to the ground. And when u go for a head crank, don’t use hands on head. Another rookie mistake . Use your arms. If u can’t or don’t know how then hands are better then nothing. But I like this guy even tho he doesn’t know much judo or jiu jujitsu

i called these techniques crawling techniques, to sum it up, if your technique come on second you in trouble, can one beat his timing before one hits the ground ? getting hold of your leg or legs you probably in a uncomfortable position to complete the technique. if somehow one can hold on onto that position a little longer it might just do.

you want a defense from a real spear tackle lol just make sure you have leg muscles and also when he tries to get you ya know get out of the way by moving left or right but if you get caught make sure you put your legs in the back well push it to the back like stoping something cause most of the time the guy are doing this are heavier than you so don't do want this guy does so increase your center of gravity it work lol i tried it on a really really big guy and he wasn't weak ill tell you that he just did that cause he couldn't beat me at boxing lol i got some bruises

Theoretically it could work but requires a precise timing to hit him before he gets to you. Once he's pushing you backwards you are off balance so it would be impossible to do. Best thing is, try it with your friends and see if that works for you vs. this.

Damjan Visnjic Great comment Damjan...well said, I totally agree. Some techniques might work with certain people and fail with others. As a rule of thumb, it's preferable to stay on your feet and avoid being on one leg in a street fight. However, there might be great occasions to throw solid knee strikes. This shit would NOT work. I fought my brother-in-law who is a much bigger dude than I. Im a smaller guy at 200 to 210 pounds. And he was around 230 to 240. He's been locked up in prison for over 10 years and had alot of prison fights. So, his fight-game is more like a Boxer with a one-punch knockout capability. And brute strength. Now, I fought alot myself, growing up in the project and the Hood but when you're talking about a bigger dude, that's like a bully-size compared to you. All these technique where you trying to stop a takedown is NOT gonna work against guys like my brother-in-law amd you being a smaller guy. They will swoop in quick underneath you, and the force that comes with it, it like getting hittinv by a linemam. Your whole composure is out of stance at that point and forced to anticipate getting slammed to the ground. That's IF the takedown is coming in like a linebacker . He charged in while swing a fist and using his free arm to grab one of my back legs when I was stanced with legs apart (behind me). There is no defense for that because I lack the weight and brute strength to stop him with opposite force applied towards him. I had no choice but to anticipate the ground slam and work in my ground game. And that a position of vulnerablity because he is much stronger, much bigger and got a Boxer' skill-level. Im more MMA but had no training but I do go on the ground than standing. However with him, he was just too big for me and I had to eat some punches even with strong guards up. They will SMASH your defense technique due to their brute strength. Example I had my hands and elbow up portecting my face when he swung a couple blows at my face. Though my defemse blocked his punch, the impact of his punch hurt my arm by the elbow lower arm. Hes hitting it and Im feeling pain on the arm. So I grab his shirt and flipped my hips UPWARD while bringing his shirt. And that had the effect to have upside down; about roll over from me. And I rolled with him by the force I still had when I flipped him with my hips. Amd it was like a reversal when he had me on my back but after I flipped him, he was on his back and I had hthe advantage. But not by much since he was still stronger, bigger and had brute strength that outclassed mind by a landslide! So, I had to think quick and watch his body movement. He tried to sit-up to do a side rollover and I noticed he had both palms on the ground when he was trying to sit-up. So, I pulled both of his palms which stimulatenously made him lay back down on his back. And I was about to throw a blow to his face but the fight got stopped. And just thinking about it, I learned, you fight a bigger dude at his game. You will get knocked out or seriously hurt. A brute guy like that with a Boxer' skill-level. You gotta keep it on the feet and MOVE YOUR FEET REAL WELL and keep your spacing and counter-punch from creative angles. Its hard to do but that's about the best you can do to be safe while fighting a beast like that. Knee-kicks would be work too, but gotta be careful. If they grab your kick, its over. They snuff you up off the ground and go down hard like BOOM! You either knocked out or seriois hurt. And if you're knocked out...aww man! He's about to unload some serious damage....and you are in the throes of death then. So, I still would grapple with him but do it quick with precise timing. Find a slip-up on his part and dont hesitate to make your move...rather an arm-bar, gullitone choke etc. Armbars is the best when fighting bigger dudes with brute strength because once you got their arm locked up, depending the type of armbar you use, you can controk him and punch the shit out of him. That's your knock out route right there.
