Solitude was indeed the tone this track was going for. Half of the game has you playing alone with no fellow soldiers by your side at night.
@thegeth42937 күн бұрын
for context. the game drops you into an rainy, abandoned city at night that has been overrun with enemies. you discover evidence from your squad that triggers flashback missions. this track plays after the first flashback mission finishes and you are returned to the solitude of night. so like you said, it plays during a moment of reflection.

Halo 3: ODST is a game with a tad more atmosphere to it than the other games. You play not as a badass Spartan or a Sanghelli (Elite) warrior, you are but a human soldier stuck in a city under Covenant control following a siege and looking for your squadmates. Granted, you are playing as an ODST, who are the best of the best of the UNSC, but still you are an unaugmented human. The music reflects that different perspective.

People say ODST has more atmosphere, but I'd sooner say it just has a different atmosphere, since all the Bungie games and 4 have really strong atmosphere, I will say ODST's is stronger than Halo 2, Reach and 4's. Combat Evolved though, something about the degree of alienness to the world, the sense of isolation without necessarily the sadness of ODST literally just feeling alone, coupled with the y2k futurism and 2000s Cool, the primitive textures are used so well, I think its atmosphere is really strong, and Halo 3, man. That song that plays in the MCC menu that starts with the cello and then the choir softly comes in and out. It might be my favorite ambiance EVER. Halo 3 feels dreamlike and so does ODST to a lesser extent, it feels like a great tragedy, like an epic fantasy. Strangely enough it feels like it has the same soul as Skyrim's music in some ways.

Marty O'Donnell is really among the best in the business, this track was such a perfect fit for a perfect feeling. The saxophone tracks only come up during the same sort of time frame in the game, hearing them for the first time when it was rainy outside was an experience that I wish I could have again. Even outside making the OST, Marty had such a pivotal role in shaping the Halo games, and he is sorely missed after Reach.

Halo 1, 2, 3, and ODST was peak halo music. The reason it sounds more emotional and lonely is because the game is about a separated ODST trying to piece together what happened to the rest of his squad in an essentially dead city, invaded by the covenant after the events of Halo 2 when the covenant cruiser did a slip space jump inside of the city.
@Crazyguy_123MC19 күн бұрын
I’d include Reach in there. Reach captures the loss and desperation. ODST captures the desolate lonely feel. 3 captures the feeling of loss and the long fight. 2 captures pondering and sadness. 1 captures the mystery and curiosity.

I love this piece!!! it has a special place for me between Under cover of Night and Never Forget, halo soundtrack is just awesome

ODST really gives a different vibe compared to every other halo. Just picking up the pieces, trying to find your squad mates alone while finding clues to what happend.

There's a video with this theme and rain sound effects, and the comments for that video, man..... talk about emotional

The majority of this game is at night, during a rain storm, looking for clues of what happened while you were unconscious due to your squad getting knocked off course during drop and you are now trying to find your squadmates you dropped with. Most of the fighting in the city happened while you were unconscious in your pod so there's remnants of battle all over as you look for clues.

Halo 3:ODST is about an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, a normal human (elite) soldier. During an invasion they crashed upon deployment, you then wake up and after the battle at night. You then must traverse this lonely empty desolate city looking for clues to what happened (which then plays flash back from your crew’s perspective as the missions) It’s got heavy Film Noir/Detective movie vibes

ODST definitely is a more lonely sad game. Most of the game is your character trying to find his squad in the middle of a war zone. The battle being the most important of the war because the enemy has found Earth. Humanity is at its lowest having just lost its most important military planet and now Earth has been found by the enemy. Humanity is facing extinction and we are in a desperate fight to survive. The game takes place in an empty war torn mega city New Mombasa Kenya. Your character is pondering the war and wondering what happened to his squad. I definitely suggest doing more halo music because these songs capture the feeling of these games. I think Halo’s music nails the desolation and feeling of loss. Halo 2, 3, and Reach absolutely nail the sadness of Halo’s story.

Hi! I'm pretty late to this as I've been pretty busy but I was the guy asking for it for a year :D Halo 3: ODST was one of my favourite games in my teen years, played way too much of it and absolutely adored the atmosphere from this particular track. Really glad to hear your analysis on it, thanks and have a great new year!

I never played Halo I barely understand the whole lore (I know more glitches in pvp rather than about the game). A friend recommended to me this track 2 years ago and it's an absolute banger. (although I do confuse it sometimes with the TOTK soundtrack)

Love your content Davi! I grew up playing the halo games and this piece of music always has a place in my heart. I have no doubt you have plenty of music in the works but if you’re ever looking for a unique piece, “American Venom” from red dead redemption 2 is a masterpiece! Or any other halo music!

What I love about this analysis is that he doesn't know the game. Halo 3 ODST is the black horse of the series. We all have read that a million times and we lovers of this game LOVE to say this to new comers when recommending it, but really the "I barely remember Halo, and this is not really what I expected when reading that name" nuance feels home. Welp, time to go play Halo 3 ODST again in stealth mode because I will not interrupt the OST.

Such a beautiful track :). So nice. Btw, looking forward to see the new studio 👀. And since I'm playing some new games during these weeks, I recommend to checking out the OST of Laika: Aged Through Blood, such a good soundtrack, I'm loving the game and I'm really enjoying the gameplay and the whole game in general. That's it. ¡Adiós!

Davi!!!! You should listen to Journey from destiny 2, its a beautiful orchestral/choral piece, and also it’s a game made by Bungie, the same developers as halo!

Why so -serious- delicate? Also, I'm not familiar with Halo, what does ODST means? Is it something like a version of the soundtrack? This track was way different from what I was expecting from a Halo track, lol. Anyway, great video as always!
@Blackheartedhethan21 күн бұрын
ODST is Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, it's the regiment of solider you're playing as in the game. You're not John 117 in the game, not a spartan. You're a vanguard solider, dropped feet first into hell to be the tip of the spear. Just a man.
@stretchyman121 күн бұрын
It stands for Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, the type of soldier you play in the game, the one on the cover art specifically :)

And the reason this peace is so delicate: your character is separated from your squad for the majority of the game and is left to navigate the streets of a city taken over by the genocidal aliens humanity is at war with. So picture this: It's nighttime, rain is pouring down as you sneak your way around a rather abandoned city Thats why it's sounds lonely and atmospheric It starts playing in a cutscene, but continues to play while you wander

In halo 3 odst in between the action missions theres mombasa streets you play as rookie your all alone severely underpowered for the challenges that lie ahead most often your better off going around enemies if you can also unlike normal halo 3 in odst you have to find med kits to get back to full health
