Luffy's Devil Fruit Awakening essentially grants the user freedom and a body made of rubber, essentially freedom to fight however they imagine and the only limits is the users own imagination. Luffy is a goofy guy so the cartoony looks is him imposing his imagination to the world hence why even the villain was affected by all the cartoon hijinks. Do note, cause Luffy believes his fruit is just the rubber fruit most of his technique is going to involve turning or using rubber like techniques as its base

But later in Egghead without thinking about it he just makes goggles from nothing while fighting Lucci so I'm sure either he'll just fight completely Looney Tunes without thinking about it or by realising its true power. He can just pull out whatever he wants. Dude can probably make a wall into a door only for the pursuing enemy to be unable to use it like how he pulled the ground almost like a door in this episode.

His fruit awakening is supposed to turn him entirely into a cartoon character which is why his ability it’s imagination and he’s only limited to his imagination. Which is why he can also create goggles and that’s not a rubber thing. Oda did that bc y’all idiots are little slow and can’t read what oda states. The main reason he still heavily does rubber like attacks (turning stuff to “rubber”) is bc he thinks is fruit is still the “gomu gomu” only us readers and some of his crew members now know what his fruit actually is. This is a road block to keep Mc from his TRUE power until it’s need.

Luffy essentially tapped into the toon force. And honestly, the reason why you don't see this sort of transformation in other anime is because it's so silly and goofy that it would break the tone and feel of most other battle shonen stories. But Luffy ... Luffy has been THUROUGHLY established to be not only goofy but downright rediculous. It is 100% believable that the culmination and logical peak of his abilities would be to become an almost literal looney toon. And, because it has been so well established, it doesn't break the tone or feel of the story. I think One Piece and, specifically, Luffy is the only inscance in shonen manga/anime where you could have a transformation like this and it not feel wrong.

For gear 5, Oda and the animators watched Who Framed Rodger Rabbit and all the other old western cartoons, took the wacky slapstick comedy and gave it the Japanese treatment. I wouldn't be surprised if oda decided that at some point, he will let luffy punch his enemy and turn them into chibi versions.

Some paceing issues here and there. LOTS of Episodes to get through. BUT. Less Filler than almost any other. Only like 100 or so filler eps out of over a thousand. A far deeper and larger story than you can imagine. And some of the Best Characters you can ever run across. So if you start that Journey. Do so at your pace. And Enjoy. Also.... Luffy awakened the Gum Gum fruit to its full potential to attain Nika abilities of freedom... And be the warrior of Liberation... Similar to Joyboy 800 years ago. The themes of freedom, liberation, joy etc. it perfectly fits Luffy as a character, his personality, his goofiness all along (as Even luffy's fighting style is goofy from the beginning.. and Oda intended his main character's power to be funny.. that's the reason he gave Luffy Gomu Gomu no mi), and also the themes of freedom, liberation that Luffy stands for completely match with the warrior of liberation Sun God Nika - Joyboy... And putting a smile on everyone's face.... Absolute genius by Oda sensei...!! We should also remember that, it's not "strongest fruit power".. it's the "most ridiculous power" And the gorosei said that the fruit evaded them for more than 800 years and it is said that zoan fruits have their own will to choose their owner. So, may be that's why the fruit chose Luffy because it's purpose of freedom/liberation is so perfectly reflected in Luffy's personality. We don't know if shanks knew, but there must be a reason shanks went to east blue, Fushia village, taking the Nika fruit. The Sun God has been hinted at in the cultures of Skypiea, Fishmen island, impel down as a symbol of liberation, even though the name reveal is recent. He is the 'warrior of liberation' (just like Luffy) and it is his fruit.. Most probably Joyboy also had the same fruit... And awakened it then... Only after 800 years Luffy awakened it. And Luffy may not even realise it's a different power or it's an awakening... He mostly thinks it's next level of his gears... Hence, he called it gear 5. Luffy is not "God" but he has a devil fruit based on a deity "Nika", similar to the ex-fleet admiral Sengoku's Mythical zoan 'Buddha fruit'. And regarding the power, Gear 5 Nika form is the literal embodiment of true boundless freedom.... That is represented visually as looney toon, Tom and Jerry animation style (where imagination is the limit.. not the physics)... And Secondly His body and the surroundings also turn into Rubber... After this awakening... And the warrior of liberation is said to bring pure joy and laughter... Which is physically done by Gear 5 with the looney goofy effects... It has effect on the surroundings as well as people around... Kaido himself is loonified! Gear 5 changes everything, yet keeping the core of everything exactly the same by completely recontexualizes everything and explains stuff even better... and organically feeling like a natural progression of Luffy's previous Gears yet retaining the core aspect of Luffy's character...being silly, goofy, joyous, freedom and liberation ... Even while fighting, Parallelly embodying the themes of the series as a whole. Luffy's fighting style has always been goofy, silly (Gomu Gomu no water Luffy, tank man, and many other silly moves) and this Gear 5 took it to the next level... And the animator struck the exact balance between over-the-top goofiness of Luffy, funny, laughter, joy (of looney toons, Tom n Jerry 👀👀👀 ) and keeping it equally epic with the tone with drumsof liberation version of OVERTAKEN... !!!!! 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Kudos to the animators ! Getting this balance right was way more difficult than it seems... and I was worried how it would turn out at some level, But they did it perfectly !!

The significance of splitting the sky is lost on yall so ima fill you in. Pretty early on in the series, we see Shanks (luffy's mentor and the former owner of the straw hat) and Whitebeard (proclaimed by Luffy's brother, shown to be a trustworthy and extremely strong person, to be the strongest man in the world) clash swords ONCE. The impact splits the sky and sends all the clouds away. Luffy does it not from punching, not from hitting anyone, not from even DOING ANYTHING. HE SPLITS THE SKY FROM HIS HEART BEATING.
