The birth of the supermodel started in the 1970's: Lauren Hutton, at 5'7,was the first to get a cosmetics contract and her pictures graced everything from magazine covers to store displays for Ultima 2 cosmetics so, in essence, she was the first supermodel . Then Margaux Hemmingway got the first million dollar contract with Faberge. Then came Cheryl Tiegs for CoverGirl in 1979. She got the biggest at the time: 1.5 million.

Margaux was so beautiful in the mid 70s. Too bad her modeling career was short lived.

I met her in Santa Fe, NM and she could not have been more nice! Lauren was a favorite of mine and l was seated at the table next to her and her mother. Of course, l knew who she was and she's even prettier in person than in her photos. She had just about everyone in the restaurant go to her table and ask for an autograph. I would think of bothering her and her mother. After dinner, in the large reception area, I'm waiting on my friends and she for her mother and Ms. Hutton comes over to thank me and to say how much she appreciated my leaving her and her mother alone to enjoy their meal. Lovely is how l would describe her and thoughtful and kind. I'm a fan still, and will always remember her in that encounter! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟♥️🎉

So glad to see one of the most interesting blasts from the past back in the news. Lauren Hutton was always herself, never anyone else, except in acting, and even there she was real. Let's have more blasts from the past join her: Beverly Johnson and incomparable Jeannie Shrimpton. I'm not on board with today's fashion model who swivel the hips a tad too much for my tastes. Did you ever watch supermodels Donyelle Luna, Dorian Leigh and Naomi Sims walk the runway. None of the hip swinging business. All grace in motion, a glide, if you will, as if having taken dance under the tutelage of Martha Graham.
