For me one of the parts that seems to be a bit overlooked in all the criticism is the AI. It just didn't feel like an improvement over AC at all. Slow, awkward, pretends you're not there and just hits you, you can kinda mess around with it if you don't put a lot of cars in the grid but I already foresee it being a nightmare if you wanna race open wheelers or fast cars

kunos acknowledged how big a part mods are of AC in a interview. im worried about what will happen with the licencing too but i really dont want to go back to AC. it feel like garbage besides a few cars. all the cars in ACE feel awesome on my DD. if i could get these physics in AC i would. but for example in ACE if you do a big lock up, you can feel the flats spots depending on how large they are. imo i think ACE will be good - but like a majority of games these days you kind of just gave to ignore the first year or 2 of open release until its an actual game.

It's like the whole Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Motorsport (as well as numerous other non-racing video games) fiasco didn't teach devs a lesson. Live services fucking sucks and doesn't belong in video games (except MMO), especially in games that could easily have been offline-only. Correct me if I'm wrong but from watching a few of the EA streams it seems like the AI handles starts the same way as in the original: -Lights go out, immediate full steering lock towards the middle of the track -AI realises all the other AIs are doing the same thing -Brake for avoidance -Set off again, brake again as field bunches up Leaving the player to either drive around the cars ahead for an immediate head start, or choose to wait a few seconds for the field to sort itself out in order to set up a 'fairer' race?

the real question is why they are unable to implement some more advanced system? Gran Tourismo has messed around with their adaptive Sophie AI for some time now and the results seem to be decent. We also have LLMs, neural networks, AI image and video creation has taken gigantic leaps during the last few years. How is recording a line and letting the AI just blindly follow it still state of the art? this system feels kinda like real old school CounterStrike bots.. where you would define routes and zones in the editor and the AI would follow those pre-designed routes while reacting to other bots/players in a primitive way. I doubt that that's still the go to for modern shooter games when it comes to AI. Surely it must be possible to develop an AI that at explores it's surroundings on it's own?

From the reviews I am beginning to sense that the things I had hoped for in AC EVO are not there yet and probably won't be there any time soon. AI is the only racing I do and I was hoping for something revolutionary in the AI and this video seems to confirm my fear that the AI isn't going to be much good to me. I will have to continue to rely on AMS2 for racing the AI and AC1 + mods for cruising and fun. I think that glossy graphics and career modes are the main thrusts of EVO. Not for me thanks. Also I don't like the idea of having to be connected to online servers either all the time or for progressions. I understand that the real market is XBOX and PlayStation. That's fair enough from a profit point of view but no good to me.

I hope the AI system they put in place is just a placeholder for the real AI they might be working on. This could just be for the alpha release to have something playable. They talked about an AI model that learn and develop distinct character, I expect much better AI in version 1.0 than what we have now. 🤞

I have a geforce 1080, 16GB of RAM and a i7 processor. To the moment, I played all sim racing games with my triple screen without problems. The best fps? No... but solid 60 fps at least. Yesterday I tested EVO and it was completely unplayable with all options off or low. I mean... was it a great graphics update to justify this performance behaviour? I know t is an old GPU, but... If i can play every other sim racing game with no problems, should I buy a new GPU just to play EVO? EVO is really this next step? I don't know... I will think while the game evolves to a 1.0 version.

I can assure you the graphical improvements in this EVO DO NOT JUSTIFY the performance demands in any way period. Hell to add to your valid points you can take other games from story modes to fps shooters and campaigns from 5-8 years ago that are better looking as well as performs exceptionally well by comparison. You could prob run Doom (2016) at high frames on that card. 😅

@@b.1570 okay but ac can be made good for no more than it cost to buy the base game, you really gonna try and tell me the same will be true for ac evo... the point you're doing your best to ignore is pretty simple: from what has been released to the world, nothing about AC evo is being done better than what we have in the first game with mods, now idk about you but when the official dev team cant release a game that surpasses the quality that modders added into your first game *for free,* that is a major cause for concern. generally I like when games make actual progress, not launch into early access with like two things to do and a road map stating how the dev's intend to even more tightly control the content/mods people are buying the game for, idk about you but for months leading up to this all I heard was hype about what the modding scene would be like for evo, but hey I guess hiding the fact they were going to be chopping away at the freedom modders have until we launch a shitty sim into early access is a sign of progress to you.

There are too many driving/racing sims out there to pump out an EA title which everyone is expecting to be the next be sim with new tech, and then for it to be this limited in content, and the content it has to feel largely copy/paste or just weird/buggy/laggy, etc. I know its only day 2, and i do agree that it feels fun to drive, but this is not how they should have released v0.1 imo. This makes me wonder how they will come up with anything that is worthwhile before their slated release date. If the "approved "mods" scenario is true, it sounds like another money grabbing tactic. Imagie how many mods are out there. I must have around 1000 mods installed, image if someone has to pay for all the mods with a price of $2 or $3 per car. Of course, with this "approved mods" tactic they are not gonna be that many mods out there because most of the mods for AC are ripped from other games, so there is no-way a ripped mod can be approved. Which brings us to the next problem, limited mods. In AC, apart from the usual mod studios like ASR, RSS, VRC, etc, I can only remember a couple of individual modders who created their mods from scratch. So forget seeing the whole generation of Skylines for example, forget seeing rare classics, or concept cars, these were not be made because of the small audience who is using them. So there is no point for a modder to spend months of developing a mod just to sell 20-30 copies and make $200 for a three or four months of work. Anyway, the whole approach of limiting modding is totally wrong. That's why games like AC, Football Manager, PES2021, FIFA, GP4, Total War, etc, etc thrive for years, because the modding community keeps them alive. If developers were smart, they could release a major paid update once a year and keep the game alive while making money the same time. Imagine having AC with a major update once a year that transforms the game totally. AC still missing, better sound, better AI, progressive wear like tyre wear, dirt, dust, etc, progressive damage, better damage physics, damage deformation, and the list goes on and on...

Not that long ago, an Alpha meant a barely playable game, a true work in progress product. A Beta was something they could cut and polish just a small part of the product to give away to the press or release as a gift with the purchase of another game or in a magazine. Early Access is none of those things, Early Access means they had to publish this now, unpolished, unfinished and in a poor state. You buy something in hope the game gets better. And this is not My Summer Car or some small company, we are talking about 505 games. Just to note, I know none of the devs or designers are at fault for this. About AC Evo in specific, the original AC would not be what we think of it today if it wasn't for the modding community, I know, I discovered something new. With that in mind and knowing vanilla AC has poor designed UI, weak AI and not that large amount of content (obvious when compared to the massive modding scene but even comparing to other racing games too), and a barely working career mode... I just hope this game will be my go-to sandbox mode with that, I hope better, open world. I can't see myself racing this AI for another 10 years. And if they want to be an online racing game, they have real though competitors to be honest.

Replays were fine for me but I have had various other problems. I wish the FFB was scriptable. Scriptable FFB is not difficult to implement in game as a feature but coding FFB profiles themselves is very involved (as an over simplified example: do you only have a wheel or do you have transducers or a motion rig; both of which mean you do not need so many forces combined in the wheel FFB) but I am sure the community could come up with some vastly superior FFB profiles which do not rely on a few general sliders.

My take is there is nothing fundamentally better or even different here. It will take years to overtake AC, or never if mods are too restricted. AI is very important to me, given up on man to man or hand to hand combat racing. As for tracks they need to offer vintage tracks like Fat Alfie, or pre 80s European. if they don't well it will be the same cars and tracks as everyone else. If they decide no off line, it will be an empty shell of a game like GT Sport, or missing in action like PC1 and 2. Unless you have a console and a hard copy.

I can't find it right now, but one of the Kunos reps said, on camera, that the game would eventually be open to modding, albeit with a more lcurated ecosystem than what AC has. I don't think he went as far as what GPLaps is suggesting, there might still be hope that it won't be as walled-garden as is implied here, but I think recess is over for the free for all that AC modding was. I get that there are implications to modded content. I get that content is ripped from other games, and I get why OEMs and track owners want to have control over digital representation and distribution of their IP. That being said, there is some orphaned content, or purely creative stuff, that ought to see the light of day, and could see the light of day in AC. For example, I'm working on a mod for a race track that was proposed in the 60's, but never built; I'm so happy that a somewhat modern sim exists where I can drive it. Same for AVUS, same for Pescara, same for vintage, abandoned cars.

Modding is arguably the main draw to AC1 and without it I don't feel like there'd be many people still playing it at all. A bunch of the ideas they have for this game are cool, and clearly influenced by some of the ways people play AC1, but imo they become mute if modding can't support that. Actual supported freeroam content and the car customization/ownership stuff sounds great, but if someone can't do those things with their favourite cars or location, then what's the point??
