I've had my Genesis Electrified G80 for a little over two years. My car is pretty much the same as your demonstrator - same colour and options apart from the interior- I've got the Arctic white/lagoon green interior with the forged wood (along with the exterior colour called Matira Blue, although it looks more green, is the signature trim for this model), and I don't have the rear screens which come as part of the Executive pack which includes soft close doors, heated rear seats, manual rear side window shades, and electric rear window blind. A pack really designed for someone with a chauffeur, the rear screens are.not independent, and in essence just control the main infotainment screen, for listening to music and being able to watch videos in the back. As I understand the newly unveiled '25 my car has a revised and improved system in this respect with bigger rear screens, whilst the Electrified version is some 100mm longer with electrically reclining rear seats. No word yet if that will be coming to the UK, and whether they will offer only the longer wheel Base and/or a standard length. My guess, given the numbers for RHD models, it may not be cost effective for Hyundai/Genesis to produce the car in standard length for markets like the UK. Bad news if I wanted to change my car as I would have serious issues with a longer car and my garage! Prior to the Genesis I had a Maserati Ghibli Diesel for seven years (in the high spec I ordered a very luxurious, and a very good car, if a little unrefined from cold), and prior to that some six new Jaguars over a twenty year period, and I have to say the Genesis is the best car I’ve owned, I entirely agree with your observations and would go as far to say it feels more like a bespoke Rolls Royce than a boring BMW, or Mercedes-Benz rival, and would add I've never had a car which has attracted so many positive comments. A lot of people seems to think it's some kind of Bentley, which given that the two chief stylists for Genesis occupied the same jobs at Bentley is perhaps not so surprising! At around £80k at the time of purchase it was some10k less than the equivalent rival from Mercedes- the EQE, whilst the semi autonomous driving aids (level2.5) make driving particularly on motorways so much less stressful. An often overlooked party piece is the auto park function when you GET OUT OF THE CAR. Like. Most of these systems it's often quicker to park yourself, but passers-by look in amazement when they see the car manoeuvre with no one inside! Finally as regards the solar roof, over here we don't really get the weather, but as far as I'm aware it does add charge to the main drive batteries. Like all EV's the range does suffer in cold weather, and following its first service the tech told me battery degradation is simply never an issue, with my car losing 0.8%, and that's off the total output of 87.7 kWh of which approximately 82 kWh is usable. In fact if anything the range seems to be improving, easily achieving 3.5 miles per kWh. So a realistic range in mild weather of around 270-300 miles depending on how low you dare to let the battery go - I try not to go below 10-20%. I have only covered about 9,700 miles, tending to use the car for longer journeys, I have a second car, a small hatchback, (currently an MG3 HYBRID which i bought in May) for my day to day driving, however where I'm located the Genesis is useful for driving intro central London, where until end of '25 you pay no Congestion charge, and up until April this year vastly reduced on street parking costs. Being somewhat, or perhaps very OCD, at the time of delivery I had the car fully protected with PPF (Xpel self healing film) by an excellent company who are as fussy as me - Auto Protek near to Fleet in Hampshire, and would thoroughly recommend them for anyone considering this product, and then coated with a Gyeon Ceramic coating. On quite a different subject, whilst the PPF will protect the original paint, it itself can still pick up chips on its surface, but if careful - keep a good distance from the car in front, the few I have are very minimal and all but Invisible to anyone except me! I noticed three minute chips on the bonnet in the last week, but at about 2mm in length and about a human hair in width (it looks as though a stone just caught the surface) only someone with OCD like me would be bothered! The self healing properties mean very light surface scratches will disappear with heat, and thanks to the V2L feature I can use a hair dryer to remove these. It's important to point out the usual light surface scratches that are invetable from even careful washing - snow foam, 2 bucket method, lambswool mit etc etc, will be noticeable if you scrutinise say the bonnet under a strong artificial light in say a filling station. But as I say this is only noticeable to me plagued as I am be the dreaded obsessive behaviour!! In terms of after sales, Genesis achieve a level of customer care that is above that of the traditional premium brands. They try and get to know their customers, and aim to provide a far more personal service experience. It's almost as if you have bought a super luxury car, with the service manager coming out to greet you, and make you feel that you are a truly valuable customer. I should add that as standard all Genesis cars come with a five year warranty and free servicing, with free of charge collection and delivery with courtesy car (another Genesis) all free of charge! The usual German premium brands could learn a lot from the Genesis way of doing things, and they would be best described as being like a 3 or 4 star business hotel, whilst Genesis service as more akin to a 5 star luxury hotel! If you have read this far, on what is an enormously long comment, I can confirm neither do I work for Genesis, or get paid by them, just a (rare these days!) very satisfied customer!! .

Looks a lovely motor. I think the interior looks fantastic. On paper it would be worth checking out but it will be quite a few more years before it makes my budget. Great review 👍

Great review JIM. The Korean's have come a long way in a shortish time. Too big for me, but if I was in the market for a car that size, I would definitely consider it over its German rivals.

Enjoying your various work,thanks for them. You asked for our comments and thoughts. I have written to BMW asking them to brighten their interiors to match Genesis and Volvo for two. They sell their anthracite roof as if it were a plus. Give me a bright interior any day. I really like the look of this car, but we would need to expect a very large drop in depreciation. It will take some time for Genesis to make their " marque".
@DefinitelyNotAGuru Жыл бұрын
I thought exactly the same but the predicted depreciation is surprisingly low on the brand.

Very nice. I’d rather go for the shooting brake version but I must admit, this car looks premium and not as boring as some Germans rivals

Well specced car, and cool interior. Just the badge on the bonnet which doesn’t hold the same ‘status’ as its rivals
@Brian-om2hh Жыл бұрын
But supposedly high status badges don't actually carry the clout they are perceived to have if you look at customer satisfaction surveys. As Jim points out, these cars *are* of high quality, and there is little doubt about that. Given Hyundai's sound reputation for reliability, I wouldn't be too surprised if these grab some of Mercedes, BMW's and Jaguar's share of the market in the years ahead. And it is simply perceived status that is the issue, as not all Mercedes and BMW's are built in Germany anymore..... If I was in the market for an EV in this class, I'd seriously consider the Genesis for two reasons. 1. It's incredibly good. 2. It *isn't* German.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru Жыл бұрын
It really should though, it’s that good
@Brian-om2hh Жыл бұрын
The cure for badge snobbery is not to get hung up on badges, and judge the car on it's actual merits. Just like Jim does.......

@@DefinitelyNotAGuru that hump in the boot reminds me of what you saw in the boot of a hybrid mondeo - another clever bit of design! Still I’m sure those exec types that like putting balls in holes will still manage to get a couple of sets of bats in there!
