The 'Belt of Dwarven Kind' has a number of effects, one of them being that if the wearer can grow a beard they have a percentage chance to grow a magnificent beard. Goliaths can't naturally grow beards, but Matt Mercer allowed it because it meant to much to Travis Willingham, and it made for some great roleplaying moments ... ... like the time Vax shaved it off ...

Yeah, that story arc in itself has a bunch of really amazing roleplay moments that I think they would REALLY enjoy even though they would know the main story beats that happen because they watched the show there's SO much rich content within the campaign that they just HAD to skip due to time constraints. But they're WONDERFUL scenes with amazing roleplay. And those moments add another layer of nuance between ALL of the relationships between the characters that we've seen on the show. It's much deeper, IMO. Also some of the key moments in the show were changed from the campaign. Percy was even MORE unhinged in the campaign during their time in Whitestone.

There's a LOT of people within the critter community that struggle to sit down and watch 2 hour movies but critical role they can sit and watch it all and it feels like no time has passed. Each season should be better than the last with Vox Machina. It was the first D&D campaign for many of the players and they learned a lot once the game went from the occasional informal get together to a weekly broadcast event. As the players and their characters evolved the story telling got better and better. If you do go back and watch the Critical Role streams of season one there are some things to keep in mind: The streams are between 3 and 5.5 hours long each... there are 121 of them. The streams started about 3 years into their home game, Episodes 1&2 of the animated series was a retelling of the relevant events of those first three years which were not recorded, which explains why they were so different tonally from the rest of the season. The first dozen or so broadcast episodes of the Vox Machina campaign are full of sound and quality issues as they figured out how best to broadcast the game and developed a basic on set etiquette, so there are lots of sound issues and poor camera angles, eating on set and other behaviors that were eventually toned down for better viewing, but it took a while to figure everything out. There is an additional player, he was an integral part of early episodes, many of which were either left out of the cartoon or rewritten to be done by someone else in the party. Unfortunately, a number of issues, some onset and many behind the scenes, lead to a parting of the ways with this player.

If you’d be interested in trying out the streamed games but would like to avoid spoilers, one great option might be to listen to Critical Role’s mini series Exandria Unlimited: Calamity. It’s *relatively* short and fast-paced compared to the main CR campaigns. It’s a prequel story set in the distant past of the same world and specifically, the beginnings of a great historic apocalyptic event/period called Calamity. Keylith’s, Grog’s and Scanlan’s actors/players are in it, and absolutely everyone on board is just utterly terrific. It is a blast, though I’d also recommend watching lore master Matt Mercer’s Exandria history timeline video first as a setup for the world building. Very happy you’re enjoying the series😊

this is still stuff from the 1st campaign... if you wanted to watch with as little connection to the 1st campaign as possible, campaign 2 would be where to start and not campaign 3 bc there is a fair amount of connective tissue there... but if a full campaign is too much there are a ton of one or two shot adventures they have done. the arc this is from is huge, and very dense with material, my hope is that they split it between this season and the already green lit season 3.

You have to remember that this was based on a Dungeons & Dragon Game. The game has already been played and the story already finished so all that remains is to script it and animate it from the original story. The people who are making this show are the people who played the game. It is very unusual for a story to be adapted by the creator so I expect the story's quality to remain high.
@leonielson71382 жыл бұрын
It's recommended that you start with Campaign 2, just be aware that everyone was inspired by Percy's angst riddled backstory, so pretty much everyone has issues. The story only gets better from here :D I'm not worried at all. Like Grog, I am bouncing my way to January. Can't wait! One thing you might enjoy, if you don't want to be spoiled for anything in the next animated season, but would like a small taste of how the live-play looks, is seeing some of the side-by-side comparison videos people have done for season one, showing moments at the DnD table and their animated counterparts. Things like the Sun Tree moment are pretty interesting to watch, you get to see the emotion play out on the cast's faces. I totally get that fear of a new season not being as good, it often seems to be the case. But for VM honestly I'm more worried about what gets left behind :D (well, not "worried" so much as hoping some of my favourite moments are included.) They have been greenlit for a third season already! So they will have more space in S2 to start covering this MASSIVE arc. One thing I love about this show is that it has the benefit of a near limitless supply of character moments, plots, NPCs, and adversaries already "written" by the cast at the DnD table. There's no danger of it feeling like they're scraping the barrel for ideas, there are more amazing moments in the first campaign than they could reasonably hope to fit into the show :) As well as that, they KNOW the best bits, what they wish they had phrased differently, the parts that made them wheeze laughing, the moments that bought genuine tears, it's all there just waiting to be adapted, and because each character was created and played( "written") originally by only one person, improvising their choices on the spot/based on dice rolls, it's always going to be a little surprising, and feel a little different to a story written by one or two writers "writing a story" and creating all the characters all at once. [/waffling] all this to say, based on the trailer I have zero concerns, and I know you're going to LOVE the next season, look forward to seeing your reactions to it!
@JfrogFun2 жыл бұрын
Depending in your pace going through it all, theres a LOT to watch of the actual campaign, so you might be able to watch AND not be spoiled, alternatively starting with season 2 or 3, of the campaign, those stories are completely separate with their own parties and plots. But Im not sure LOVM or a critical role animated series is going to end anytime soon if they keep being received well. It would be a shame for that to be the reason to never watch it.

I also like that it's R-rated it... so swear words, alcohol, sex is allowed, which is just part of life, you don't want to push a false agenda here, as many other series do. I'll expect nothing but greatness from the second season.

Yeah the r rated flavor gives them freedom. Little fun fact. The actress who plays Keyleth, Marisha, has been open about the fact that she was heavily inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender when she was creating Keyleth. And so there's definitely SOME similarities between Keyleth and Aang in Keyleths Aramenté to master all 4 elemental magic types (mainly because she didn't want to HAVE to choose one elemental magic type to master like a lot of Druids do. She wanted to be able to dabble a bit in all of them.) and becoming leader of her tribe. And Keyleth being of the Air Ashari tribe, of course. But that's pretty much where the similarities end.
