Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down Episode 6 of Gen V.

The latest entry might make you Wanda what's going on but in this video we're gonna explain everything to take you out of those shades of jean grey. There's lots of easter eggs, comic book callbacks and things you missed in it plus a cameo that was like...ruined 4 weeks ago on social media.

With that out the way, huge thank you for clicking this, now let's get into Gen V.

Now we begin with Cate making Emma remember everything. We can catch her blood shot eyes which may be a nod to what happens to the psychics when their powers overload in firestarter. This is also a subtle way to show when Cates powers have been used and if we go back through the season there's several moments where she'd clearly been over doing it.
When we cut to the wider shot we can catch Marie standing infront of a girls get it done poster. This still contains stormfront on it she was eventually recast with Charlize Theron once the truth about her got out.
Up next to Jordan we can also see the no lookie loos sign that popped up at the start of episode 2. Around the room theres several dawn of the seven posters including character ones from starlight and black noir. We also get a shot of Emma standing by an american flag though this may also be homelanders cape.
Cate starts to collapse due to her powers overloading and it even seems like she reads marie and jordans mind.

I think Marie's benefactor is Stan Edger Marie is very similar to Victoria and she would be an amazing back door for him to come back not straight at them but from inside at a lower level to regain control of Vought.

Well they figured out how to kill sups In the comics with regular guns this might be a smarter alternative for the show. I know in Marvel Comics the main reason the supersoldiers were created was to control the mutants, looks like they want controle back.

I actually think a huge portion of the main cast will die by the end of this series. I don't think there will be a 2nd season to Gen V and the virus killing supe is what's gonna cross over to The Boys season 4. Any surviving cast member might make a cameo in season 4 but that's about it. Gen V is a nice show but, I doubt there's gonna be any type of happy ending. Doubt it'll even be bittersweet.

(ex: the brick arch dissassembling and disappearing in mid-air) and the fact that everything around them was being destroyed after walking through her door. Its an homage to Jean Grey who actually does warp reality. Sidenote: If the mind is how we perceive reality, isn’t she changing their reality ?

Literally no one in the show is as physically powerful as Sam. They have different power sets. The Deep can talk to fish and swim well but has no super strength at all. They don't all have to have super strength anyway, it makes the show more interesting.

I think the next Noir is Sam. I think Emma dies, due to hooking up with Sam which is a no no in scary movies, and Sam loses that person who can talk him down. Spoilers For Invincible: Good episode of GEN V. But I don’t love that they are borrowing a plot point that will be used in Invincible going forward. One of the main ways that is designed to take out the Viltrimites like Mark, Omni-Man and others is a virus that was created specifically to kill their species. I just know people will complain when invincible airs when I don’t recall a virus to kill supes being apart of the Boys comics but its a major plot in Invincible.

4:31 An Omega Level mutant is one whose powers have no definable upper level, as indicated by the graphic. I disagree that Cate would be classified Omega Level, as she suffers damage whenever she pushes someone and therefore cannot go all out without going comatose (as shown in this episode).

We see soldier boy develop new powers (thermonuclear explosion stuff) in addition to the normal powers possibly due to the high stress of the Soviet experiments. So we can conclude 3 ways of being more powerful in the boys universe are blood transfusion, supe parents, and high stress experimentation to get/unlock new powers.

Dean Shetty told the Dr. he couldn’t use Marie as a test subject because she has a benefactor, who is almost certainly Victoria Neuman, or possibly Stan Edgar if they’re trying to mislead us with the trailer for episode 7.

Mainly because this show is structurally the exact opposite of The Boys. In The Boys the Sups are the villains and here the Humans! That's an interesting choice. I wonder why they would make such a huge change in the DNA of this world. 🤔

Something I’d like them to dive into also. why does v effect everyone differently? Is it genes? Is it personality traits ? Is it based on family traits etc.? Why haven’t they found versions of v that give people specific powers? Why does v make some people mentally unstable but others are fine mentally? besides maybe having a freak accident altering their emotions.

Well the first obvious answer and that's it not science, it's just the premise of the show that you have to accept. There's no real answer, and I doubt the writers will ever go into the details. The same thing could be said about the mutant from X-men, all sharing the same gene but having different abilities somehow. My headcannon is that compound V is just a catalyst. Like every human would have this "potential power" gene in their DNA , burried, unactive, unexpress, whatever, and compound V would simply activate it. This would also work as the powers goes from father to son ( Homelander, Translucent , etc ) , the power gene and the compound V being transmitted. As to mental stability , I guess it depends of the psyche of the person, which can be more or less fragile, and this is something we see in humans as well. In real life,some people go trought horrible stuff and walk it off just fine, others just can't handle the slightest trauma. It's just something that we are not equal to, and that's it. My guess is that when you're treated as a vilain and a danger ( just like Sam is this show ) , it exarcebates some fragility in the mind until you break and become what they think you are. Then, repairing one's mind is incredibly difficult, if not impossible. The mind is something really complex and science is a long way from understand how it truly works.

I will say, The Boys and Gen V have definitely done some of the best jobs of deconstructing superhero tropes. I'm glad The Boys is not as bonkers as the comics, which isn't saying much, but it still leans into a world of superpowered people, but with normal human faults. Gen V exploring what it would be like to deal with various trauma while having superpowers is even better.

Cate is very much evil. Being mentored by Shetty for a couple years wouldn't make her suddenly incapable of seeing the inhumanity behind The Woods. She actively works to keep it going, which includes the inhumane experimentation on her own boyfriend's brother. She even made Luke think Sam killed himself to keep it going. Her lying and mind tricks are so insanely fucking immoral that no good person could ever do it; she lied about being raped. Without even being told to, she went out of her way to make that up. How fucking malicious do you have to be? And in addition to all this, she cheated on Luke constantly with his best friend. And kept it going even after Luke's death. And never even had any remorse. If she did it once with a random person and regretted it, that STILL would have been enough grounds to call her a bad person. Cheating is utterly despicable. But doing it MULTIPLE TIMES, with HIS BEST FRIEND, and even AFTER HE DIES is so insanely morally reprehensible, and it has absolutely nothing to do with her sad upbringing. Cate is a terrible person.

Like that is believable weakness,I always wanted Marvel to introduce a weakness linked to her telepathy see if she pushes minds or erases or plants memories they should say the caveat is there is a limit to how far you can do this because memories and personalities in telepathy tend to entangle or imprint so the more she does it ,the more she sees memories or thoughts of others manifest in her psyche so in effect overusing her power makes her fracture her mind and if she isn't careful she can turn into Legion or worse.I honestly feel Marvel don't write their telepaths well with compelling stakes ,but maybe I'm a lone voice@@jonadol

The most interesting aspect of the boys/gen v imo. Is how conflicted each supe is with their powers. Some feel betrayed by not being able to make their own choice to have powers. Due to side effects of not knowing how to use them and becoming destructive inadvertently. However they enjoy their powers and the strength/confidence/attention that comes with it. When Jordan comes back to reality they’re relieved to have their powers back. Although Sam is mentally unstable. He still is happy to have his powers due to how he conducts his actions. He wants to help but his side effect hampers him. Same with cate. She’s afraid of her power. But obviously enjoys what her abilities can bring her. Marie is a roller coaster of emotions due to her unexpected lash and need to prove to her sister and dead family she’s a good person. Yet she’s gets more and more confident throughout each episode. this series does a good job of showing each supes conflict/happiness with their powers.

Yeah, I think the writers did really genius things tying their powers to other sides of themselves so well. Human beings are already very complex multi faceted creatures & beings, but adding this new level of the supe powers & impacts on their mental health. Golden Boi was seen as the #1 at his college, but burnt out from college & ended up never even graduating, he even committed suicide so gave up on life in general thinking life was all that he had experienced so far, all that the world had to offer... a lot of young people end up committing suicide because they have the belief that all the bad they experienced with family abuse, toxic or evil friends betraying them, or pressure from society to do well in school or their career is everything & all life is about so burn out. He did everything other's in his life always wanted for him/willed, touched the sun going in the direction the adults in his life wanted, yet he ended up burning out & committed suicide overwhelmed with everything in life as he feels its all meaningless as its not truly the direction he chose for himself just what others wanted in him.

I think it's definitively Ashley who hired the dean to pursue the effort of killing the supes. She's probably working a way to end the homelander threat and as he's really a danger to her specifically. It would also makes sense since they included her with videos and told us she's the new CEO, so from the perspective of this spin off she doesnt appear out of nowhere when this is revealed. Ashley is a pretty engaging character, going mad at the pressure of her position and Homelander is making her his bitch. I would love to see her score a point on the homelander. Perhaps she also took the executive decision to wipe out supes all together as they're definitvely not working as a marketing product. That's the kind of stuff only the CEO of Vought could decide.

Also they mentioned Marie's benefactor which I'm pretty sure is Vic Neumann. She was featured in the trailer talking to someone about having "real power" she also accidentally killed her parents (like Marie) and grew up in the same facility as her. Also both their powers are extraordinarily OP.

I like the show but I wonder how season 2 will work coz Boys butcher sets out to bring down supes and there is an endless supply of them,while if this gang wants to close the woods, well they may destroy the facility ,but supposing they reveal other facilities ran by supes will this mean they still stay at Godolkin? Do they become renegades hitting other facilities? It's tricky to keep the student/formative youth theme going but expand the world. Unless they reveal like A-Train becomes the new headmaster with maybe a twist that he wants to recruit his own army of supes to take down Homelander coz I feel like A-trains story is very thin in the boys but this may inject some impetus into GenV and link it to the Boys plot perhaps..anyway time will tell if this show will get more seasons
