Awesome video. I'm opening an arcade in San Antonio, Texas. All this info has been very useful.

Thanks and good luck with the arcade. If you need any technical assistance or Walsdawg Arcade, Darkdawg Arcade, or Darksoft products such as multikits, etc just let me know.

MitsurugiW Well to be honest I need a 3rd strike CPS3 machine. What's the easiest way to attain one. I've been patient on craigslist and eBay and nothing. Any leads my email is dreamonoids@gmail.com

***** Probably build one yourself. I mean don't wait for a machine with SF3 already installed. Get a decent cab and convert it yourself. You can buy the PCB set separately and install it yourself. Might need to modify a control panel for 6 buttons. Or you could go the candy cab route. They make great fighter cabs. If you can find one.
@cprprojects9 жыл бұрын
Sorry for being so noob, but what cab would you recommend, and what kind of PCB? I see you have different types that do the trick. I really like the sega jamma cabs. What do you think?
@MitsurugiW9 жыл бұрын
***** Which Sega cabs? Sega wasn't a big fan of the JAMMA standard. Any Dynamo cab would probably work well. Also a lot of 90's Midway cabs were converted for CPS2 and 3 games since the control panels are pretty big and allow for comfortable 2-player matches. As for the pcb you need to have a CPS3 pcb with enough simms to play Third Strike if you ant to use the SuperBIOS to play all CPS3 games in one cab. They are pricey but it might be worth just buying a 3rd Strike pcb from the start.

Thanks for sharing this information. Hopefully it it will help preserve some CPSIII carts. Having a spare cart to do the change seems to be very important since having a jumper battery isnt the safest method, but most talked about online.
@MitsurugiW11 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I can still swap that battery out for you if you like.

MitsurugiW I followed this guide step by step (Bought a dead cart on ebay, brasso, ect) and had a successful battery swap thanks to this guide. THANK YOU! Keep these vids coming:)

Hey Jeremy, I just picked up a working Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Board. I wasn't aware of this issue when I bought the game and when I played the game years ago. I saw that you are one of the few people that can fix this issue and have the balls to do it. I wanted the battery on my board to be replaced and I need your expertise for this. May I arrange for me to send you my board to have the battery replaced?
@TopTierArcade10 жыл бұрын
MitsurugiW Perfect. I just sent you a message through youtube, Sorry couldn't find your e-mail

Did you successfully change a battery?

Could you fix any of those "dead" carts? Or are they done for good? Don't know much about this stuff but I do find it interesting.
@MitsurugiW6 жыл бұрын
MalwareHurts They can't be revived back to original but they can be converted to use the Superbios and play all cps3 games with one cart.

Since these are getting up there in age now, what about replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors on the cartridges? Can this be done with a good battery installed?
@MitsurugiW7 жыл бұрын
rwdplz1 very good question. I don't have a good answer for that.

for what purpose is that battery inside the white plastic? do i have to change it while still powered on like the cartridge battery?
@MitsurugiW5 жыл бұрын
I honestly do not know what it does. You can probably just remove it. Not many of the pcbs have a battery there.

Hello, I have two CPS3 motherboards and I'm not to sure if they are both fried now. When ever I turn them on I get a blank or checkered screen.
@MitsurugiW9 жыл бұрын
Those are the classic signs of a dead cart. If you take the cart apart and clean the contacts really well and then test again with the same results then you can be sure your cart is dead.

Hello, I was wondering if one HAS to cut out a piece of the cartridge to perform this battery swap?
@jaimecraig42936 жыл бұрын
No. A 3D printed jig can be fabbed up to help hold the cart securely to the board as this is performed. You can get the files to print that here: www.arcade-projects.com/forums/index.php?thread/1590-3d-printed-cps3-cpsiii-capcom-system-3-security-cart-housing-and-battery-replace/

Is it possible to use a multi game CPS3 cart with a 3S PCB? I'm a complete outsider to CPS3 hardware, but was curious if such is possible. Someone on eBay is selling a US 3S PCB but the battery is dead and i'm wanting to cop it.
@MitsurugiW6 жыл бұрын
Yes. As long as you have enough memory for 3s any cart will do.
@BackXDash9 жыл бұрын
Could you please answer if these "cart holders" are just regular, cut cartridge cases, or something else?
@MitsurugiW9 жыл бұрын
BackXDash Yes. It is just an extra case had that someone cut a hole in for battery replacements (terrible idea). I cut it further for this process and it is pretty much a necessity on my battery change station.
@BackXDash9 жыл бұрын
Much thanks for answering! I see a lot of places saying that a helper battery is needed to do the swap... in this video you doesn't use that, apparently. Would that be really necessary? Btw, are you still doing mod services (multibios) with dead carts? How much do you charge for the service? Thanks again.

Do you do repairs on cps3 rom carts/ boards? Thanks
@MitsurugiW2 жыл бұрын
Carts, yes.
@jorgehicks75952 жыл бұрын
How much would you charge to repair 4 carts? I have 2 new generation, one 2nd impact and 1 third strike? Thanks for responding back.
@MitsurugiW2 жыл бұрын
@@jorgehicks7595 Your only option would be to reprogram them as superbios. There is no way to restore the keys to the original game. I charge $55 each for the work or you can get the files for free on Arcade-projects.com and do them yourself if you can do smd soldering and have a programmer capable of programming a 29F400TA.
@jorgehicks75952 жыл бұрын
I have no electronics experience or knowledge. Original keys to the game means? Would repairing the carts be sufficient to get the pcbs working? Two boards i get jumbled graphics and the other is pure black screen. Thanks for your time.
@MitsurugiW2 жыл бұрын
@@jorgehicks7595 Not exactly. Once you go to superbios you will be required to have a full set of simms on the motherboards regardless of the game you want to play. However, you can revive your 2I cart. Capcom messed up and didn't encrypt it so you can open the cart and remove the battery and it will begin working again. It's only possible with 2I.

I would have thought the two batterties method would be safer
@MitsurugiW10 жыл бұрын
Some people like that one but I don't like the extra wires hanging around. This is much quicker and is much cleaner when you are finished. Also, installing a battery holder would be huge mistake. It was popular at one point but has lead to many dead carts.
@VladTepes4410 жыл бұрын
I think it is the idea of working over a motherboard that is running that makes me stressed about that method. I would be so afraid of shorting something and killing everything. But I think this kind of problem is present in anything involving CPS-3. I serviced several CPS-2 boards but thanks god my third stike came with a new battery I should not have to bother about that before a few years. Also, now that it is possible to revive the security cartridge CPS-3 feels a lot less stressful. I would not trust a battery holder with anything as critical as a CPS-3 security cartridge or even a CPS-2 board.
@MitsurugiW10 жыл бұрын
Make sure you clean the cart's edge connector also. It is critical that the carts don't lose their connection. A dirty cart can cause a cart with a good battery to die. It would be the same as pulling the cart out while powered which would cause an instant suicide. Use something better than alcohol. I use a mild metal polish and make sure to buff it out very well.
