Defoko and Teto are just some of those Vocaloids (I know she's an UTAU) that has an acquired taste, like Teto or Haku, they don't sound great in every song they sing (Mostly because the amazing people making these covers aren't being paid to do this), but there even are some actual Vocaloid singers that are similar, EG, Miku is really well loved, but she can't sing Break It Break It that well, none of them are perfect, but us, the fans, just have to keep our minds and hearts open to these kind of singers.

I imagined a story for this based on the original lyrics: An AI, due to how much she’s been tormented in her life for not being perfect (and not having a perfect voice, according to some[you don’t need a perfect voice to be stellar]), she always is yelling at herself, always self abuses, and she’s constantly rolling with it because she is used to it. But she wouldn’t be scared or sad if her program suddenly shut down, considering how low she has degraded herself. She tries to convince her creators she is fine, and that she is acting in line, but behind the scenes all the self hatred has built up and she will snap one day. All she needs is a helping hand, someone to guide her. Someone to help. But until then, she’ll keep rolling...

Truly a unique UTAUloid. The only way I can describe her voice is "air" like someone recording a fan instead of an actual voice. That's why I think its unique because its so soft and soothing. The people who create Vocaloid should consider adding some UTAUloids to their list of Vocaloids.

You probably weren't expecting a serious answer, but it's so that the personality of the character for the most part is up in the air, if there were an anime then the personality of the character may become locked into place making it sound strange for that character to sing certain songs, thereby limiting the amount of songs that are sung by that character.
