I got this guy the other day, and after going through his transformation a half dozen times I have to say that the difficulty people claim is overblow. It's DIFFERENT and you'll definitely want a spudger, but it is no worse than half of Fanstoys figures. I mean, I rather transform Crimson Wings than FT Jabber. This guy is mostly held together with screws, and if you find a joint that is very tight I'd recommend taking a screw driver and loosening the nearby screws by an eighth of a turn. I loosened the screws near the shoulder joint, one elbow, and both screws on each of the wing armatures. Just loosening a tiny amount made a huge improvement in how easy it was to move most of the joints.

It was a smart move for the company not to identify themselves with this product. I agree with the inconsistent tightness on this figure and that feeling that you could be forcing things. Luckily, I watch multiple versions of transformations to see what can be moved and EVEN then I have to worry that some part may be stuck accidentally. I can see how you carefully place your fingers when manipulating parts so that you don't over-stress the material and joints but I am also glad at how much force the plastic seem to withstand. I was waiting for this video to come out. Thanks.

Surprised to hear the transformation was so bad. I've found, after flipping him back and forth a few times, the transformation to be not bad at all. Like many figures, the first transformation is rough until you learn it's idiosyncrasies.

Exactly my finding - I’m never gentle with my figures and after numerous flips back and forth not a paint chip in sight. And (because I am demented) I love me an insane transform, but this one really isn’t that hard.

Some silicone oil on certain areas will make this figure smoother, especially the transformation. The transformation is like a puzzle, it gets easy, done it many times.

Got mine a couple of days ago. Added some water-slide faction decals, posed him and he’s been on the shelf next to MP-36 lookin’ fantastic. I rarely transform MP figures and after watching a few other reviews, I knew I wouldn’t be transforming this one. I can’t deny your criticisms because they’re all valid, but for my purposes this wins hands-down. I find MP-52 to be too short, too dark & too expensive for what we’re given. Love what you do, man. Can’t wait for the VS.

How so? Starscream's always had a darker face than Thundercracker & Skywarp in the show. The toys haven't always reflected that, as many of'em tend to have them all with the same color face.

The transformation, I don't think its as bad as it looks here, but I didn't do it at arms length either, huge respect to you for that. Its also one where you have to do everything in a very, very specific order, or it gets far worse, you definitely had some of that. Instructions are garbage too. Its very clever, but joyless, if the tolerances were better it would flow to a much better degree.. Paint on mine has held up fine, but I'm being super careful. Swapping out my MT, the presence and character of this on the shelf is just too good.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the honesty with which you conduct your reviews. I just watched another review on this thing by a creator that has several thousand subs, and they just couldn’t bring themselves to be overly critical where they needed to be. Almost like they didn’t want to piss off any viewers. Having the spine to be 100% honest and trustworthy is a fleeting trait in this world of likes, and shares. Best review of this figure yet.

To be honest I think Bobby is criminally undersubbed compared to some of the TF reviewers out there. He has a consistent schedule and clearly puts the time in to his content that genuinely shows he has a passion for this stuff whether he praises a figure or not. I honestly can't bring myself to sub to some of the "bigger" tf reviewers out there even though CHUG is my main interest and its not really Bobbys bag there are loads of more mainline reviewers that don't put the effort Bobby puts in even when he does get a CHUG piece to handle.

Great video that I know you hated making, at least filming and editing that dogs breakfast of a transformation. That shit was not camera friendly at all but you still got er done, kudos. I may just be a sick bastard, but it makes me want to try my hand at this transformation! I love a super intricate Rubik’s cube, and I do dig the toon aesthetic with a little extra sculpting tossed in. The paint thing worries and irks me, thats so unnecessary with the different formulas and chemical makeups toy paint specifically has in terms of options. Or hell, a clear coat on pieces that could transfer/rub. All that said, this is the Starscream for me, I gotta get my hands on one of these for my collection.

After seeing the early review over at Bens Collectibles this was an instant buy for me. Seeing yours doubled up on the transformation slog (which is fine, I don't really handle my bots often and rarely, if ever, transform them). I wonder if the reception is good enough, which it sounds like, that they'll amend some of the paint issues on repaints. But there's no way to get around their engineering now lmao looks great on my shelf, especially when I get more shelf. if i ever have to go to the office again this and my IT megs are going right up

Someone managed to do this pretty well in transforming this on youtube. A korean guy. Pretty insightful as I made a deposit PO on Taobao for this. Not saying this isn't troublesome, but his vid makes transformation seem easier to follow. Plus, he made fixes on the tolerances too.

Man....that null ray transformation is leaps and bounds better than the Takara one!! Takara's swivel in the middle of the piece makes for broken up sculpt and hideous gaps. I hate it. This one is done perfectly.....how ingenious to flip the base around instead of the barrel!!

I have NO interest in transforming this guy 🤣🤣. Interested in seeing your comparison with 52. Having seen your review of 52, I'm leaning towards this one.

This new one by TE is the best Starscream in my opinion. Right up there with their awesome Optimus Prime. I would wait until the second run of this guy because I bet the tolerances and other issues will be addressed and fixed for their next release. I bet there other Seekers will also benefit from the second go-around. Great review. Thanks!

I wasn’t straddling a camera, but my transformation wasn’t that bad. I took it slow, which I know you can’t do in a video. I’m glad I held off of the mp as I believe this is awesome for the price. I did manage to scuff up my red during transformation, so there’s that…. And I did scrape the paint off the nullrays to get them to fit. Nice review.

I've taken my mp11 next to other figures. Taller would make more sense. Mp52 waaaaaaaaaaaay too small. It will look weird next to all other masterpiece figures. In my opinion. LJ Powell is a Takara lover so take his opinion with a grain of salt.

I know many of you will hate to hear this, but if you factor out price, The Takara Tomy is likely to beat this figure out in a comparison. I do like the waist swivel, but the premium feel of TT MP-52 is, in reality, not going to be matched by a third party company, although I'm sure this figure comes close ... and then if you do factor in price, it might actually make this figure simply more cost effective for most collectors...

The complexity of the transformation for the “toon” accuracy is not worth the frustration of the transformation. Seriously I’m perfectly happy with MP-11 and the Igear version with its MP-03/MP-11 improvement is still the best.

The mp11 /mp3 mold hasn't aged well. It was truly amazing when it came out but it looks odd next to any other figure. Of the two versions from Takara mp3 had the best face but the head was too small. They also both have the neck warmer or neck brace thing happening in not mode due to the transformation. Also the loose waist was annoying. Had to transform is always subjective. So get what seems right to you. I purposely sold my mp 11 coronation starscream and was going for mp52 but the height (or lack thereof) had made me question my choice. I'll probably get the ds-01 due to the proportions.

Hump day off to a good start. Bacon and Bobby Skullface. Picked mine up at Agabyss on Saturday. There are some things I did like better on MP-52 but I prefer the color and the height much better on this guy. I also like the more blocky look of robot mode. And luckily for me,I prefer my Starscream in bot mode so I will never have the need to transform this damn thing.

I'm going to spam my thoughts regarding transformation. As with the MP Starscream, this transformation looks onerous. How often will anyone transform this thing once they get it? How many will buy two (or this and the MP) just to have one robot and one jet? It seems like the fandom demands transformation because it's called Transformers, but I think that idea needs to be challenged. G1 (and many CHUG offerings thereafter) have FUN transformations... not always but often, and those are the pieces I enjoy AS Transformers. G1 minicars are like the original fidgets. I distinctly recall a time when a grandparent was in the hospital and my mom insisted on basically camping out at the hospital during visiting hours. I had a pocketful of cassettes; Ravage and Frenzy (the BLUE one) are the ones I specifically remember. I must have been maybe seven at the time and those things got me through. If they had taken more steps or had more complex engineering, they wouldn't have been as useful to me at the time. Personal anecdotes aside, if I want a toy to mess with, legends scale looks great and CHUG is usually serviceable. I can transform them relatively quickly without too much thought and make them look okay in a pose. A slightly higher end, more blinged up version of the R.E.D. figures would be perfect for me as display pieces that I can pose. If I want vehicle modes, CHUG is probably fine... I can just bring out what I have for G1 and keep them in vehicle mode (those that scale reasonably), for that matter. Part of my thoughts are, I'm sure, an expression of my own confirmation bias in giving up on MP scale, but I'm genuinely curious regarding those who are still in it. What if you could pay say $60 for a superarticulated, perfectly toon accurate 6-7 inch scale version of your favorite characters? In Bobby's case, wouldn't that be all you need since most of the displays are robot mode? If you had that option, and maybe CHUG if you want vehicle mode, would you continue buying MP? From maybe 8 feet away, Earthrise Optimus in vehicle mode on one shelf and R.E.D. Optimus on another... wouldn't that serve the same purpose as the $100-$400 MP figures? The only possible reason it wouldn't is that they don't transform, right?

It's only bad the first time once ya get the flow of it ,it's pretty simple kinda like the starscream from the movie. although a little adjustment of the screws and it's all good .but yeah that first part getting the collar panel open is a bit tricky.

For it to not use a faux cockpit, have a waist swivel, and also have such a clean back, I'd say the transformation is not the worst. Gotta give credit to the designers that pulled this off. Also the price is nice compared to MP (which I also got), but going forward I think I'll be going the route of DS.

For those who want to see a comparison picture of the MP seekers (and some mainline ones), look for post 3168 in the TFW2005 thread for this figure. You will see that this has the best looking proportions, unless you want your Starscream to be as short and dark like Takara's. The picture really shows what a pinhead MakeToy's Meteor is.

I get the feeling this might have been a proto design offered to Hasbro, but they being Hasbro went with the more cost effective route. I've seen this done in the companies I've worked for, and think it's pretty regular. Multiple designers/engineers vying for a big contract with a business, only to lose out to the guy who comes up with the cheapest way/thing the business can make the most profit from.
