If you understand audio engineering and composition you’d truly be able to appreciate and see beyond the saturated and over-processed sound that really sullied just how immense it could’ve been. If you can, it is just as great as any of their best work released.

@@ADT2695 It wasn't really panned. AP gave the album 5 stars. Drowned In Sound gave a 9/10. Entertainment Weekly gave it a "B" and AV Club gave it a "B+". Spin and Rolling Stone were slightly mixed (still leaning positive), but nobody of note gave the album a negative review.

@@ian_5184, I see that I might not be saying much of anything to you if you have not accepted the notion of all of their previous work being of such a high quality both compositionally and sonically. The general consensus, I believe, is that this is was probably their most promising work released _not_ fully realized, albeit their worst because of the overproduction and sloppy tracking of the instruments. Then, there was the supposed internal strife - worst of all, it dealt with the frontman of the group. Pertaining to the album’s reception, yes, I am aware of some of the glowing reviews that praised the correct areas of the album and criticized what needed to be criticized. That one was perfect. Unfortunately, I cannot recall which one that was. I was focusing more on the grumblings then-and-now, though, and the aggregate “score” of the album. I sincerely apologize for the enormous amount of text and for potentially repeating myself in previous responses, as it probably seemed unnecessarily long.

Steph has this rare ability to write really simple riffs that are super memorable and make for killer songs, kind of like Alice in Chains. Love this song!

Diamond Eyes is 10/11, only This Place Is Death is missing. Also, which song off (Like) Linus did he play, you say 1/15? There are none iirc. Everything else is correct.
