It was the 90's, in the middle of Nu Metal rise of the late 90's, a whole different time. The world took a nose dive after 2000 IMO, I graduated in '97, so I was around to watch and experience the 90's music. It was an odd mix. The death of 80's metal then grunge, then Nu Metal and boy bands/Britney Spears.....Deftones and Radiohead game me hope going into the 2000's....and Chevelle also but all three can't be really compared. I enjoy most of the Deftones catalog with the exception of Gore....it just doesn't sit with me yet. Ohms made up for it though.

Gosh I love those screams. I heard Deftones for the first time while watching The Crow: City of Angeles, they were playing “Teething”. Most maybe don't realize the effort involved in 'punch strumming' or appearing to beat the guitar while strumming.. Simultaneously having exact finesse to strum normal without busting strings 😂 watch close. It's quick but u can see it.. the punch is first.
