John and Flea just did a thing talking about their influences on Dublab radio. Flea said Out in LA was basically his attempt of imitating Defunkt

i guess the band hasn't received much recognition because it's essentially a "jazz" unit that plays funk. (i'm sure the "jazz" tag alienates a lot of people.) but the band should be commended for its lonevity, having been in existence for over twenty years.

Wah! The camera pulling out to a totally inert audience, like they were sitting in on a seminar or lesson. Which I guess it was in a way. A seminar on spastic funky jazz. Those German's are just out of control!!!!

+lextual Is THE band influence on Anthony Kiedis and Flea (they were Hardcore L.A.Punk Rockers) for reach deep into Funky grooves.

@added2313 жыл бұрын
@SOYUNPINCHEBOY i know that early rhcp was heavily based off defunkt but the chili peppers ditched this style in the late 80s and are now a completely different band. i dont think its fair to say that there would be no rhcp without these guys, although i do love their music from the 80s alot more than what theyre making now.
@PaulderDreher As far as i know RHCP even called Defunkt an influence on their style of music

Flea tried to copy this bass groove as hard as he then could. And that's how Out In L.A bassline was born.
