The 2023 PlayStation showcase showed us a lot of new details about Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man 2 is going to have the black symbiote suit and it's shaping up to look really crazy. Kraven the Hunter and The Lizard will both be in the game along with a playable Miles Morales Spider-Man. With all these new details came a new round of criticism as many people are saying that the game just doesn't look good, isn't a big enough step up from Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales and that it wasn't finished enough for showing at the PlayStation Showcase. #gaming #spiderman #spiderman2

Problem is these companies overhype new hardware every console generation but we barely see full translation of what that hardware can do in games. Honestly, I think people are just disappointed that this game didn't have the huge stunning leap forward in graphics they were expecting of one of the only next gen exclusives we have so far which I kinda get, but graphics have gotten to the point that any improvement in graphical quality is going to be more marginal and less easily noticeable, such as better lighting and reflections.

All they showed was third party indie titles and some generic Sci Fi shooters. They left out games like the new Wonder Women from Monolith and Silent Hill 2 from Konami. This showcase was a waste of time, the majority of these games should've been at summer games fest. Sony thinks that Spider-Man 2 is going to be it's cash machine because it has venom, let's hope they add replayability to it and try to avoid woke agendas unlike some game companies have started to do. Overall, this was a terrible showcase.

The symbiote fight scenes remind me of the "Prototype" and "Prey" games. It looks pretty good to me, especially the Miles Morales/Lizard sequence. I'm just so happy, they finally got Spiderman right in a video game. It is my favorite superhero game to date. @@BiggieJ4224 think Insomniac’s Spider-Man is trying to lean more towards realism with its combat, while Web of Shadows is more wacky, exaggerated and comical/cartoony by nature. For example, the shield Spidey can make with his webs in WOS wouldn’t be possible to make if you think realistically (unless it’s the black suit), and some of the wall combat moves like the breakdancing kicks are downright ridiculous lol. A similar comparison would be the original God of War games and the post 2018 God of War games. The latter tries to be more realistic, which is why Kratos cannot double jump and perform aerial attacks with his blades (I miss the air version of Rampage of the furies)

Listen if you don’t have eyes and say that it looks the same as the PS4 cool. I’d recommend seeing an eye doctor. But saying it’s a downgrade is absolutely nuts and you are definitely a hater I watched the DEMO I repeat “DEMO” on my 4K TV and the lighting and colors aren’t even comparable to the PS4. Spider-Man 2 wouldn’t even be able to run on PS4. The console can’t handle the graphical change, insane map size, instant character switching across that map, traversal, and how big the game is in general. Not everything is about graphics. Graphics aren’t take huge leaps anymore like with what we saw with PS3 to PS4. But there is constant improvements. For the gameplay… this demo is old gameplay and the game is not even complete yet. If it was the final build we would be getting the game this summer. For the swinging… they swung one time in the city and when they did web swing it was on cranes over the water. Not a lot of texture to swing on. Swinging wasn’t the vocal point of the demo. It was the new features like the glider, black suit, etc were the vocal points. I get criticism but if you’re going to be ignorant about it that’s when it becomes crazy. I have my criticisms/questions but I know that it’s just a DEMO that’s not even close to being finished. Lastly this is insomniac we are talking about here. They don’t serve out half baked games. They are a company that thrives off of valid feedback and strives for perfection. We don’t even have a release date yet.

Yeah I get that. I will say, even though you have to wait, I do think the experience on PC is going to be equally good or better. It seems like Spider-Man remastered has an amazing mod community for example, and it doesn't have that kind of support or community on console obviously since... It's console. So there's certainly some benefits there as well along with the negative of having to wait for the game. I'm sort of different with a lot of games. This one I do plan to play at launch, but most games I end up playing years after they came out.

Deciding between dumping $500 into a PS5 or building a new PC has been tough. Eventually, I opted for the first, as my 2013 homebuilt PC is actually still pretty robust, and there are just too many unmissable exclusives for PS5. But I really want to get the full experience for Hellblade 2, and it's not going to come out on PS5 at all. So now I have to decide if I want to build a new PC anyway or buy an XBox. I don't think I can face being a two-console person.

This game isn’t finished, yet, so let’s all be optimistic that Insomniac will deliver and give us THE best Spider-Man game ever made. With that being said, there is one thing I was a little bit disappointed with and that was new animations. But even then, I’m sure they’re probably working very hard on it and will definitely add new animations. The other thing I would like for them to fix, that I hated in the first game was, when you were close to the ground and Spider-Man is about to land, but you start swinging, Spider-Man starts to float and swings. I really wish for that to be fixed. Even if they don’t, that’s fine, it’s a minor nitpick, but this game I believe is gonna be awesome. We’re in for a ride

You know, that was intentional actually, they said playtesters preferred corrective swinging, one thing that needs actual fixing however is momentum from swinging; you can glitch yourself falling from the sky but virtually none of that momentum is carried into the swing, also you should be able to loop but it automatically cuts off your swing after a set point in your arc :/ I just say more animations (duh) and a little more emphasis on physics

Is an fps cap really an issue with performance? Like if a developer purposely caps the framerate so it isn’t unplayable, isn’t that a plus for performance? For example, sonic adventure on the dreamcast was capped at 30 but that game runs like a dream, whereas the DX version forced it to 60 which messed a lot of things up

The visuals on some parts were lackluster, that I can agree, the water physics were stiff, and the animations at times were a little iffy, especially miles finishers. There was an explosion on the boat that also lacked detail. But overall, this game pushes boundaries, so it’s expected tbh.

I think the problem is that for a majority of the gameplay a decent amount of the systems are the exact same as the first game including the black suit having the same exact swing animations as the first game that came out 5 years ago when there are mods out there that improved the swinging x100. I will say I’m very excited for the game to come out but those are some things i noticed.

Idk to me the game seemed like it had a good amount of differentiation from the first two titles, especially the first game. The swinging in this game looks way more fluid and fun with even more momentum. We even have the webbed gliding mechanic now. Combat looks vastly improved as well with parrying now being added and more stylish takedowns. The ui has been completely overhauled and a quick wheel is now in place. They’ve kept true to the original formula while improving each game so idk what ppl are complaining about. The only thing I can kinda see is maybe for swinging animations make Peter look even more confident and aggressive in his swinging with the black suit

Yeah I was watching my wife play a game called the girl and the robot which is a indie game, and to be completely honest it was mainly developed by one guy and the graphics are not the best at all. But I really like the game. It had really interesting puzzles and a fun little world. It reminded me a lot of a PS2 game in positive ways. But when I look online for that game, there's a lot of people who left negative reviews about it because they didn't like that it was simple or didn't have the best graphics and the frame rate wasn't amazing, but I thought it was really impressive for what was being made and by who. I feel like these things are very relative to the player and also what type of game it is. For example, I would be much more harsh on a game like call of duty that is constantly pushing out content every year and in my opinion really milking it than i would be on a game like Spider-Man.

I agree, graphics don’t mean a huge leap in gameplay isn’t there, but I will say, I am kind of one of those people you’ve talked about in this video, I was really hoping to see something like web of shadows and super visceral very fast pace combat although I can’t get my hopes up yet because one this is an unfinished build into this is a very early on in the game and two we still have four months left and maybe they are still finishing up everything to wrap it up in a nice package so that all the combat systems and mechanics finally work

At first, I wasn’t a big fan of the black suit, but I’ve seen some mods for Spider-Man PC that attempt to perfectly remake the suit. And it actually does look good, it needed a different light and clear shots, but I actually think it looks good. Either way, there is no way a suit design is gonna be the thing that keeps me from getting this masterpiece.

Yeah I get that and in a perfect world I would love if the insides of the buildings looked a lot better. I actually wonder if, at some point, there is a way to procedurally generate them. I noticed when going up buildings in the first game that they are pretty much just repeating rooms in a lot of cases. I guess it's a nitpick on my end and it's not something that hurt my immersion or anything, because what do I expect, but I do wonder if in the future they will be better with that kind of stuff.

I'd agree if they were primarily complaining aboutt the "graphics", but most of the criticism seems to be focused towards the never changing gameplay, I'm so sick of playing the same game with a different story. I love the God of War series, but it got stale after 6 games utilizing the exact same gameplay with slight updates to it, they did the same thing with Ragnarok, it's the same game fundamentally with a different story. You are hardly ever paying for a new game anymore, you're paying $70 for a movie with some gameplay sprinkled in and gameplay that was created at the start of development on one game that was then used to make 3 sequels. Many people criticised Spider-Man PS4 for being too easy, the combat and swinging hardly ever punished you, but they don't seem to have changed anything lookng at the new gameplay video, these story games with 0 updates to gameplay per sequel have hardly any replay ability and they get stale. I'm not saying the game looks bad in any way, it graphically looks good, and the gameplay was fun in the first, I just don't enjoy paying the money for a *game* that has hardly any additions to the actual *game* other than graphical improvements and some cutscenes.

Sequels being completely different games has never been a thing until around the time when Ragnarök was first shown off. It's like people have never played a sequel until now. How many God of War sequels were there? Did any of those have giant improvements? The biggest jump was between 2 and 3 when it jumped to the PS3. How about Twisted Metal? All looked similar. Gears of War? Assassins Creed? Call of Duty? Every sequel made some improvements over the previous release, but nothing crazy. A good sequel should make visual improvements, add new animations, new stuff to do, new gadgets/combat methods and give new areas to explore. Spider-Man 2 is doing all those things. Digital Foundry found things in the gameplay reveal that Spider-Man 2 is already doing better than Miles like ray traced reflection's in the water which was not a thing before. We've seen how much traversal has been sped up and changed, we've seen new gadgets get used, we've seen improved lighting (check out Miles in that basement area), and we're in an area of New York that didn't exist in the other games. The game is checking all the boxes a good sequel should.

As a developer, the build shown to the public is all but final, expect maybe some cleaning up of bugs. The visuals are final. Graphics aren’t the most important thing, but given the price people pay for these consoles, there’s the expectation that these games blow you away in all aspects, and studios have failed on that regard, barely being able to hit 60 fps on what’s considered “next-gen” consoles

We've gotten damn close to realism and we can't really go much further than what we got. Like what you said here, we should be focusing on gameplay, story, and just. Back in the day the big talk when a new generation was arriving was "look at the graphics!" 8bit going into 16 bit. 16 bit going into 3d. Ps1 to ps2, then ps3. Even ps3 to ps4. We all were excited to see the evolution of graphics. Now it mostly feels like we're in a sub generation of the previous generation in terms of graphics. Why is it a issue to point that out? I think spiderman 2 looks great, but did it meet my expectation, no. Hopefully by release itll look a bit better. But I hate the fact it's always a matter of waiting for rockstar or naughty dog to show us all "look everyone, theres still so much more we can evolve graphically".

The real issue is that companies keep releasing game after game with same engine but different assets. Three Spider-Man games might be too close to each other. Assassins Creed milked that game to death. Far Cry, Final Fantasy, the list goes on and on, many people just want something new now. Sometimes it’s nice to have something in between, otherwise it feels often like the same game. Graphics come last, playability is what it’s about.
