Episode 22: Tears Are Not Enough (Part 2)
Although his father is gone, Craig wants to get on with his life as normal. He insists on going back to school immediately and becomes frustrated with his friends when they behave with concern. He doesn’t know how to respond when they keep asking him how he is - because, in fact, he’s not feeling much of anything. The eulogy at his father’s funeral is too much. Hearing what a ‘devoted’ father his was, Craig bursts into hysterics. Outside he admits to Joey what the problem is - the only thing he’s feeling is relief.
Ashley’s surprised when Craig insists on going to the year-end dance despite his loss, and even more surprised when he enters them in the King and Queen competition. Craig’s still a bit numb when they win - but then he spots someone familiar in the crowd-his dad-and anxiously rushes over to show him he’s won. Of course, it’s not actually Albert. Frustrated and angry with Ashley’s renewed sympathy, Craig finally breaks down by ripping down a display. The only one who can talk to him is Terri, who misses her mom terribly and explains from her first-hand experience - what he’s feeling is very, very normal. Finally able to grieve, Craig heads in for one last dance…
Paige and Spinner are determined to do anything to win the Luau King and Queen titles. But Spinner’s ex-best friend Jimmy doesn’t want to see that happen, so he enters along with Paige’s best friend Hazel. In a frenzy to beat each other out, they all end up embarrassing themselves - and it’s caught in a humiliating yearbook photo. But at least everyone is speaking again…

I noticed too! I remember thinking when the bipolar episode came out and seeing it for the first time all those years ago, that it was a bit much to just spring on a new issue on a character. But since day one of Craig in the first episode of the second season, there are signs everywhere pointing to his disorder. I love the show so much more now for that minor but impressive detail.

With Craig it feel like it's always been a part of him, since he was first introduced. He was impulsive, had rapid mood swings, seemed to react inappropriately to difficult situations and so when his first full blown manic episode hit it made perfect sense. With Craig, it's really hard to separate his disorder from his personality and that just feels very real to me (I know it's something that a lot of people with mental illnesses struggle with). I'm not sure about Eli but I'm interested in how I will feel when I rewatch all the episodes with him.

My mother died when I was a senior in high school. Since I was out for two weeks, all of my classmates were informed. It's standard procedure. At the time, I wish that they hadn't informed anybody because it was so awkward when I came back and everyone knew and was offering me pity and condolences. While I was grateful for the support, I just wanted everything to go back to normal and I just wanted to forget about it. In hindsight though, I'm glad that my teachers told everyone because it saved me from having to explain it.

I give Jimmy credit for helping Hazel stand up to Paige. He's right it's about time she got the spotlight on herself . If page was Hazel's best friend she should not treat her like a sidekick. Degrassi used to be so awesome. This era was the best out of them all and I say that as someone that has watched eps from the 80s series to the late millennium eps. Before this generation it had edgy moments but still had that touch of 80s corniness. The series after DNG became new age trash that had contrived storylines
