For single-family homes with a dedicated HVAC, why not go all in on mini splits and turn the existing air handler into a dehumidifier utilizing all the existing ductwork and Plenum?

Two,points 1. Yes resistance heat more expensive but it’s included in your hvac cap cost ie sunk costs, you have to have an hvac, you have the approximate $2000 cap cost for a say 90 pint dehumidifier vs 10 cents an hour savings in energy. So that’s like a payback period of 20,000 hours, so even in most intense environments, say trunk seasons lasting 4 months a year, thats min three years.plus dehumidifier are noisy-you are already dealing with the havc noise level. 2) trying to dehumify incoming ventilation air with a dehumidifier is futile- bringing in 70 per cent rh outside air will only briefly see your dehumidifier coil before it’s passed on.
