Even though he gives the impression that anything is possible, I disagree that Trump will come after Australia for anything. Canada has a large trade deficit with us, and for whatever reason has allowed a lot of fentanyl to come in here through their country. Mexico is far far worse. Australia is actually the one friend we have who does not have a trade deficit with us. In fact, while I don't know the exact amount, the US has a deficit with Australia. Given that fact I highly doubt Donald Trump has any intentions whatsoever for Australia except to continue our friendship unfettered. Fair is fair though and I would also like to see him rectify our trade deficit with you, small though it may be. I have watched a number of news programs on the internet from Canada, where I have heard Canadian reporters and pundits state that the United States will protect them if need be. However, President Trump has changed that for the following reason. As far as military spending goes, Canada, a NATO signatory continues to only spend 1.3% of its GDP towards the military NATO requires each member to spend at least 2% of GDP. The President has said that's so long as this deficit exists, the United States will not assist Canada militarily. Although you're pundit didn't say it directly, he is somewhat correct about a higher GDP amongst NATO being desired by President Trump as well, stating at least once that he'd like to see it at 5%.
