Deke Dickerson I LIKE RECORDS!

2 жыл бұрын

Here's a new You Tube Channel about a man who loves his records! Deke Dickerson isn't some newcomer and he most certainly doesn't call his records "Vinyls." Enjoy Deke's tales of his favorite records of all genres from the earliest days of recorded music through records recorded directly at his house! Episode Four is a special "Road Trip" episode, where Deke visits his favorite record store in the whole world--Kanesville Kollectibles in Council Bluffs, Iowa!

Thanks for taking us with you Deke! I absolutely understand your bathing phantasy. And I must admit, when you went into the cellar and I saw those stacks of 78s, I felt that my heart was pounding like a steamhammer. What a beautiful place! In fact, my favorite record store over here in Central Europe is very similar, and it is perfect for finding odd records with great performances by people I never heard of before - only that it is, of course, incomparably smaller.

My fingers were twitchin' to get at those records. I once scoured a big second hand record shop and emerged with two prized records (The Singing Cowboy with Johnny Bond and the Willis Brothers + an Aussie 45 to complete that bands' releases) and the shop owner said " I should pay you for looking' through all that". Nice video. Really enjoyed it. I guess sitting around with friends, playing records, drinking beer and talking would be a real good video, or even series, you could do Deke. That would be nice.

As a record clerk, I once went to an outbuy from a deceased instructor at a religious collage in Orinda, California. It was one of those inland places that gets real hot in the summer. He had been allowed to keep his collection in an unused classroom. At least 10,000 records. They were all stored sideways like the ones in the video, and every record we looked at was warped from that kind of storage in that hot, unventilated room for decades. 10,000 unplayable records.

Wow man. Yeah, like Uncle Scrooge in the vault of gold coins! I gotta say though. That last records was a 70's country novelty album misfire of epic proportions. Those are great late at night when your pals have had too much to drink and you put that on and act like it's a fine wine of excellent caliber.

My idea of the greatest record store is very similar to yours! I always will remember when a friend took me to the Brian's Record Option in Kingston, Ontario back in 2016. I spent the whole day digging through piles of 45s and took more than 150 records home to Germany. I love the idea of not knowing what I will find, that's why I'm never looking for particular records, I just love browsing all day long and buying whole lots of records as long as the price is right. Still hoping to be able to return to this magic place someday.

I have this disease called "vinylitis". A severe addiction to flat black discs with a hole in the middle. There is no know cure and frankly I don't want to be cured. This collectibles store would put me over the edge.
