Dekelia Air Museum - An Aviation Museum on an active Air Base - Greece Travel Guide

Not far away from the capital city of Athens is an air museum that is the largest in all of Greece.
With some spectacularly painted display schemes on a number of the aircraft and multiples of many aircraft types, it is definitely worth a look for any aviation enthusiasts.
Being on an active military air base is a bit of a catch as it is only open on certain days for a limited number of hours and you'll have to be escorted to it, but that should not put you off!

Been there twice and it's a brilliant museum. If you get the chance (not normally open to the public but only on special days) try and get a visit to the other side of the museum where there are a lot more aircraft to see including an original Junkers Ju-52 that was lifted out of the sea.

I did ask but even though I could see the Junkers JU 52 just a short distance away from me, they said not on that day! 😄

The light trainers at frame [8:50] are Cessna 172 Skyhawks. Military designator T-41 Mescalero. Wikipedia says Hellenic Air Force retired 21 T-41Ds in 2019. Unlike DMAFB's Boneyard, I bet you could get a decent Gyro in less than a 5 mile radius. 30*C is only 86*F. Come on out to Tucson's DM in the Summer. 44*C is 112*F. That's some good proper heat. And the Pima Air and Space Museum is right nearby.

Thanks for the info on the T 41's, that explains why I saw quite a few of them there! I'd have a go at venturing out in that 44 degree heat, why not? 😄

There's a good museum in Madrid as well. If i'm in Athens I'll have to check this one out.

That is on my list to visit one day 😁 Definitely check out the Dekelia museum's website before visiting as their opening hours are limited to the weekends only
