I never appreciated growing up a teenager in the 60’s until recently. I didn’t realize then, the magnitude of what we had. Seeing the world today, the kids of today…..I could almost cry. Now I’m 72 and realizing……my God..WE HAD IT ALL! God bless all of you, especially those who were there and understand. ✌️😎☮️

Father called me at home and told me that Del Shannon wanted to sing me some of his recent hit song. And he did. And father cashed his check! Thank you father and thank you Del! IMO I think it's the very best version of the song. Even better than the original. Shannon said this version is how he wanted to record it originally, but the big shots wouldn't let him. I have just read the sad news that Max Crook died just a few days ago on 1st July,2020. Max is the wonderful solo musician on Runaway, playing his own invention the Monophonic Synthetiser, which he called the Musitron. It looks very Heath Robinson (it is built with additional resistors, TV Tubes, and parts from household appliances and old amplifiers); but the very special sound and Max's energy and passion, together with Del Shannon's wonderful voice make Runaway one of the greatest hits of the early 1960's. Max co-wrote Runaway with Del. Max's chord change from A-minor to G was sheer musical genius. Del will always be one of my favourite singers of the 1960's and I hope he will never be forgotten. But I hope that Max Crook and his family are also remembered by us at this time. Rest In Peace Max.

No kidding, it really was one of the top, maybe Top 5, rock songs ever recorded. It crossed all sorts of barriers at the time. His unique use of the minor chords and the famous Musictron (by Max Crook) took the music into a new direction, a direction that never turned back to the old style tunes before it. For a great song, combined as a solid trend setter, 'Runaway' will stand out 100 years from now and Shannon's story will live on thru it.

@@seizethedayandlive I heard his wife say his Dr. prescribed some medication for him. It really messed him up, she said he was doing ok & he was even scheduled to meet people in a couple days, about a project he was working on I believe. She came home from the store & found him dead! She insisted it was all because of that medication, he was dead!

I'm sure we'll never know the real extent to which lives have been hurt because of the sale of drugs from licensed doctors who did not consider the impact it could have on their patients....@@Mike583

@@Mike583 I believe the medication was called Prozac. They used to prescribe it for children suffering from depression. They tried my daughter on it. But she was allergic to it. So they took her off. i don't think they prescribe for children anymore.

Michael Bentz it was more than depression. It was that damn drug Prozac!

Del Shannon - Runaway (1961) As I walk along 길을 걸으며 I wonder what went wrong, with our love, a love that was so strong 그토록 강렬했던 우리의 사랑이 어디가 잘못됐는지 생각해요 And as I still walk on 그리고 계속 길을 걸으며 I think of the things we've done together, a-while our hearts were young 우리의 사랑이 창창했던 시절 함께 했던 일들을 생각하죠 I'm a-walkin' in the rain 빗속을 걷고 있어요 Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain 눈물이 흐르고 가슴이 아프죠 Wishin' you were here by me, to end this misery 당신이 여기 있다면 이 고통이 끝날 텐데 And I wonder 알고 싶어요 Why she ran away 왜 그녀가 떠났는지 Yes, and I wonder, a-where she will stay-ay 그래요, 궁금해요 어디에 그녀가 있을까요 My little runaway, A-runaway 나의 귀여운 도망자는

One of my all time favorite of Del ( that Peter and Gordon got a hit from it ) was ' I go to pieces '...MAN, he created such a beautiful melody in that one.. So miss the likes of Del and his talent...RIP

Had the good fortune to back him up for a couple of Midwest gigs back in the 60's. He showed me the original lyrics written on an envelope. Pretty cool. Great writer, singer and guitarist.

Del Shannon and his wonderfully powerful voice cut loose on one of the great pop songs of all time. And Max Crook's inventive keyboard solo is absolutly spectacular!!

One of the first of many Del Shannons records I bought in the early 60's, great singer and sadly gone long ago.
