Isn't it better this way though for us American fans? I can stand stageside in a small venue and see Delain at House of Blues Orlando, Kamelot in the State Theatre St. Pete Florida, Epica at House of Blues Orlando, Nightwish at Jannus Landing St. Pete, Tarja at Irving Plaza NY, etc., sort of like our own little secret club. I've been listening to metal ever since 1970, with the exception of Amy Lee of Evanescence nothing new has come from the U.S. in many decades. Met Charlotte after the Orlando show, she's absolutely delightful and seems honestly grateful for Delain's fans, this group deserves stardom!

I'm digging Charlotte Wessels. Trained singing Classical and Jazz, she ends up in a metal band. Also, as much as I love the goth look on metal female singers (think Cristina Scabbia / Lacuna Coil or Amy Lee / Evanescence), she rocks her own vibe. Nice change of pace to see a woman dressing semi casual while fronting a metal band.

Doubt that. Classical training involves college / university time and formal music theory education ( usually at least two years ). There are plenty of talented female singers with ranges of those equipped to take on classical music that lack formal training however. I imagine Epica's singer is likely classically trained but I doubt Maria Brink is for example (as great as she is).

Andrew Russo actually simone is not classicly trainned. She joined the band at a very young age. She even admitted in a interview she is not trainned besides having a couche. She doesn't always work with on her voice but does it when she thinks it's needed. :)

Do you know how hard it is to find fans that have been around sense there early days. I have a hard time find fans who have been around sense Lucidity and before. In fact most fans I seem to not know that the first person to play drums on a full Delain album was Ariën van Weesenbeek. Most think it was always Sander Zoer. Or they go way back to Tim Kuper. No Arien Van Weesenbeek was the drummer on Lucidity.

Americans in general are accustomed to hearing pentatonic blues scale based rock or heavy rock, which European metal does not derive itself from. European metal is based upon classical, symphonic, and ancient European folk music. American ears are not used to hearing metal in this way, this is why the European groups such as NW, Epica, Delain, etc. are unknown in the U.S.

Makes sense as a whole but this American loves this band and all the others you mentioned just fine!! I play it loud and proud and often get asked who I'm listening to and am more than happy to introduce rock/metal lovers to these kinds of bands on this side of the Pond. On that note, I drove with a couple friends from Omaha, NE to St. Paul, MN to see Within Temptation about 5 or so years ago and the place was an absolute dive (Station 4 IIRC), a hole in the ground bar establishment that could only hold a couple hundred or so at best. It was sort of awkward given the footage I've seen of that band fill giant arena venues in Europe but the fans who were there were loud and glad to see them and I got to meet Sharon and a couple other band members afterwards! Also seen NW a couple times here in the States and the largest venue was maybe just over a 1000 capacity. Lacuna Coil has enjoyed somewhat better success as they have played as openers and headliner in various sized venues in the region here in the Midwest.

Absolutely love this band. Their drums are the hook for me, they're very snappy and punchy, not buttery. So when Charlotte sings, shes going into battle with a 50 cal. If they lose this quality, I don't think they'll be on my workout playlist as much as they are.
