Amazing crisp guitar licks, southern soul plucking and the almost unplugged nature of this version...Hidden Gem. Like listening in a local juke joint with Delaney and Eric jamming. How the hell you find this Fred. Amazing.

I think this my favorite version as well. Delaney and Clapton trading great licks. Thank you so much for sharing. What a Gem!

My friend Skinny Bishop told me about working / playing with Delaney. He said Delaney convinced Eric he should sing on his first album. He had the George Harrison rosewood tele at his house for a bit. Skinny is pretty sick now......he said he was gonna send me a recording with Delaney at a club. I already have a picture of them on stage at the gig playing.

I was at this show - 4th night of a 4 night stand. Bonnie’s voice was shot which is why Clapton was featured on some songs. One of the best concerts I’ve attended. Appreciate you posting this - any other songs from this great night...??

This is interesting. I hadn't heard EC play "Crossroads" with Delaney & Bonnie; I didn't know it was on any of the band's setlists. The song wasn't played on the UK tour and didn't feature on any of the concerts recorded and released on the boxed set. EC sounds like Steve Cropper: restrained and soul-bending licks. Do you have any more tracks from this concert?

I noticed they are playing the accents the way Clapton plays it now, not the way they did it with Ginger Baker on the recording.

In those days Clapton was continually trying to get away from the Cream sound, so this version totally makes sense ...
@marshallleo65893 жыл бұрын
Don't want to be negative about Cream. But Eric kept moving away from Cream for the rest of his life. Delaney and Bonnie seem to have given him a new path and he took it. He never looked back. Bobby, Carl, JJ, Duane. He kept moving forward in this new direction. The fact he is singing here shows the changes.

Richard - Just FYI this is where Clapton got his confidence around vocals. Clapton left Blind faith because he thought Delaney Bonnie and Friends were a better band. This is also where George Harrison refined his slide guitar work - and, of course Derek & the Dominoes developed from this band. Yep - must have been one of Clapton's bad periods (not) !!!!!!
