Because he and his band sing and play real music and you can't be big these days playing real music and that really stinks. I saw Delbert last night in Cincinnati,8/11/18,and it was as good as I've ever seen them.

Delbert McClinton played the harmonica on the big hit "Hey Baby" by Bruce Chanel in the early 60s. He met the Beatles on tours in England with Bruce Chanel as the Beatles opened for them, and showed John Lennon some harmonica licks.

Delbert taught John Lennon to play the harmonica! He did a great job teaching Clay as well.

Ekston Gunn is correct. Delbert has set it out clearly . He did NOT teach John Lennon. They passed the harp back and forth and Delbert told him about straight harp and blues harp. Lennon was playing harp before he met Delbert. Delbert has better John Lennon stories than that though.
