I voted for MKO. I knocked on doors, shouting that people come out to vote. I used my umbrella for other people in the sun. He was a generous man. He gave a million naira to each tertiary institution in the country. I was hoping for a boy to name him Olawale. I named her Olamide. A new Nigeria is POssible.

Thank you very much, Uncle Dele. I stand corrected in my reasoning. Inspite of whatever misgivings anyone might have about MKO's person, the bottom line is the fact that he had the people's mandate whereas the impostor we have today never had it. Thank you, Sir for setting me straight.

Nobody has said MKO didn't win the 1993 election, 2 truths can exist. MKO's dealings back then is just as Tinubu's past. The reason so many people in that generation were ignorant about a lot of things is because of the seeming control print media had over News decimation. If MKO had contested today, it would have been a different ball game entirely.

Thanks @ Dele Faro timi for always standing by the truth!! The nexus betw. 1993 & 2023 elections as you clearly pointed out is so canny. We should not allow Abiola's memory & the 1993 mandate freely given to him & in defence of which he paid the supreme prize to be thrashed in the dustbin of history as the 'ruining crass' would love to see it done!!

Im very happy you spoke to the very issue today. You highlighted the similarities which are very obvious. Its a shame that history has taught us nothing. Even if they took the subject out of the school curriculum it doesn't take away the truth because before the "school buildings and the conventional " ee had tales by moonlight happening in our homes. But "Abiola and the stealing from the people" happened not too long ago. Why are we determined to stay where the ruling class chained us to? What happened to Abiola and "the people's choice" happened in 2023. And it did because the same people are still around right now and they beat their chests in conviction that "THEY CANT DO ANYTHING " are they right? Thats a question for each individual to answer. We change the narative when we "tribalize" or "religionize" every everything that in Nigeria and its a SHAME. Those of us that knew Abiola didnt vote for him because he was a saint. We voted because he had a human face and heart. He had his faults but he was approachable and gave back. He gave back to the community everywhere he turned. Why are we so self centered? Why do we ignore the WRONG itself. They stole our mandate. They did and they did it again in 2023. Why allow them to keep doing it while they dine daily irrespective of their own differences in religion and tribes. Why are we comfortable as we watch them milk us and call us fools by the day? Is it because of the 2 or 5 thousand naira they give us during the elections while we keep going back to beg them for more because we know its never enough. It doesn't last for a day. But we are comfortable with that and deceive ourselves that we are better than others that dont have at all. Maybe we are worse than the politicians 😢

May God bless you abundantly for this June 12 edition. Whatever anyone choose to accuse Abiola of, he was a philanthropist like no other Nigerian I have known in my over 60 years of life. In my town, just as in the rest of Anambra state, we voted him as though there was no other contestants. That annulled mandate was a denial of the people's will to choose in Nigeria and has been perpetuated ever since. It's the reason government in Nigeria, at all levels, is never accountable to the people. Once again, remain blessed.

My Brother you've really put succinctly. We're not looking for a Saint or Angel but someone who can help to redirect the affairs of this country. And the fact that the majority of Nigerians voted for an individual is an indication of the faith and confidence they've for the person and that mandate should be allowed to stand. There's no Saint or Angel on this Earth plane.....We're all humans. You've actually brought clarity on this issue.

Baba Dee! Permit me to call you that, same name i called my late in-law Dele Odelola who showed me the intellectual 'light' path, he told me the truth; just like you've just done. To have the kind of Spirit MKO had is to be 'saintly' in Nigerian terms. I was a 13 year old in 1993 and i was very aware of the man called MKO. One of my fond memories was how a long queue of people irrespective of tribe came to his house every Friday, and he never got tired of doing good to those he knew could never pay back. Ever smiling 😊 It's so true that Nigerians need to take 'ownership' of this country and it's true that it's the same system that has recycled itself: chulwumerije like ajuri, abacha like tinubu. We have to realize that every infinitesimal or great natural resource belongs to us collectively, including the proceeds from them, which includes the exquisite furnishings that adorn the Asorock villa and the National Assembly etc. I hope I've not drifted from my point, but you've really stirred up an intellectual revolution within me. 💪🏾 Thank you Baba Dee and may posterity be very kind to you. 🙏🏾

Sir, Abiola was popular. I only hear his name. Remember in those days there was no Internet as we have today to know who is who. But we love Abiola because he was very charitable. I left the country when I was 13 in 1997. It was later years in London that one pastor of MFM that I heard that Abiola was involved in ITT and that he ordered a container loads of Bible to be thrown into the sea. I don't know whether it is true or not.

Abiola shut himself in the leg when he defied the wise counsel of his wife, encouraged IBB to annul the primaries won by Shehu Yar'Ardua and Adamu of SDP & NRC. He benefitted from the weakening of the other candidates that led to his winning SDP primary having been facilitated by IBB. So if the same IBB decides to destroy his closest friend who amass wealth courtesy of military coups, how is this our national headache?

@petermichael63633 ай бұрын
@jideakinola2398 In itself, I ll always prefer MKO but for some reasons, the people do not want an individual to be painted a saint when he ain't one. I remember 1993 very well and also joined in his campaign as a 5+ year old kid then chasing his campaign tricks in Festac. Even got a poster from his campaign truck. Lol. The man won fair and square. E no go better for IBB sha.

Winning the people mandate doesn't mean MKO had the competence (especially morally)to redirect Nigeria it depends on how well he was sold to the people then as a savior during that election, Even Buhari had the people's mandate in 2015 because he was sold to us as a Mr no nonsense and Mr fight corruption but ended up being one of our many night mares.David said about MKO WHAT MANY OF US ARE AFRAID TO ADMIT ABOUT WHO MKO WAS.

I don't think anybody is doubting if MKO won 1993 elections. I know this episode may be prompted by David Hundeyin's opinion of the character of man on Noble Nigeria's podcast, but I can't remember hearing David's saying the man didn't win the elections. He was no saint, yes, there's rarely a saint who will get that far politically tbh but I would have really to see people who presume to speak for the man to come out and debunk the allegations against him. In as much as IBB was notoriously guilty for annuling that election and remains so till date, I still believe they may be a strong reason why he annulled the election and I pray his makes it public before meeting his maker.

hmm, Egbon. I feel obligated to correct the impression that Abiola won across Eastern Nigeria, he did not. It's also incorrect that Nigerians across the country protested the annulment of the elections. What is true is that people of all nationalities residing in the Southwest protested. Although, I know many residents of Lagos who left Lagos after the election was annulled and there was tension in Lagos. It was "ileya" of a sort for them, but they returned when Lagos did not burn. So if today, revisionists have decided to massacre the person of Abiola, why should anyone be surprised. His running mate joined the govt who put him in prison, what else can go wrong? Sadly, nothing has changed 30 years after. This is why when people like yourself do the things you do, relatives (your family) will tell you not to die a useless death because Nigeria is not worth dying for. But I totally understand, there's nothing as fulfilling as giving back to a place that gave one everything, like Abiola did...
