I know this movie is dark, but honestly it is really good movie. It has likeable heroes, a terrifying villains,vans of course some scary scenes, but also some really tender moments. It also has a main character with flaws. Terran was a little prideful and wanted to be a hero so badly that he was willing to rain the safety of himself and his friends and it defiantly shows through out the movie. People say Ariel was a progressive Disney Princess and she was. But Alenwie came before her and she seems likes the revelation of Disney Female roles. She's smart, funny, strong, and kind. Throughout the movie she stays the voice of reason, bravery, and encouragement, she even saves Teran once or twice. And also she knows no want nor need of romantic affiliation. She and Teran don't even end up together, though it is implied a little bit. Th Balck Cauldron, to me, just seems like a Disney Movie ahead of its time and body ally understood how good of a movie it really was.

dakota widenor Loved the film but my only issue was the ending. It seemed like the very moment the mystical sword was introduced, it didn't matter. The witches were unsually drawn to it, and yet its forked over easily and then everything seems to be ok. i thought..."Wait, what of the witches? What of the Sword?" It just felt kinda rushed at this point of the film. Also, i wondered if tge Horned King was absorbed into the Cauldron or merely exploded. Just my thoughts really....nothing valid.
@angehanon77498 жыл бұрын
It's no surprise that the film felt rushed (especially at the end) when you conisder how many times the production team had to alter or re-animate certain scenes to please Katzenberg. Let's not forget all the cuts that were made (almost 13 minutes O_O). I guess after 12 years of production they all wanted to get this "mess" finally out. I personally LOVE this movie but you can clearly tell which scenes were altered and/or cut. This "deleted" scene is a perfect example how much of relevant plot, character development or overall animation they had (or told to be exact) to change which is really sad :/

Once the movie got a new producer, however, they were told to chop, trim, replace, and even overlay new animation on top of the intended scene. Such scenes included: Princess Eilowny completely topless Taran chopping up the Horned King's henchmen with his sword The army of the dead melting Raiders of the Lost Ark style
@dariuswatson62987 жыл бұрын
Apparently the film was shown to family audiences in test screenings which caused the children to leave the test screening in terror. I know that the president of Disney changed during production so maybe he didn't realise that it was supposed to be for older audiences. Its a shame, I would be very interested in seeing the original version.

I wish that Disney kept this scene b/c it's explain more about the black cauldron. But that will never happen for this movie.

Looking this scene, it makes me wonder how the film would have been. Maybe if they turned into a joint project with another studio, kinda similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, they wouldn't had to throw away such beautiful animation like this and probably at the same time fix the flaws that existed in the final draft of the movie. A movie is generally scored after the filming/animation is complete. These are temp tracks to fit the mood of the movie. While most of the scenes were seamlessly removed from the film, one particular cut involving a Cauldron Born killing a person by slicing his neck and torso created a rather recognizable lapse due to the fact that the removal of the scene creates a jump in the film's soundtrack. Another scene cut featured a man being dissolved by mist.
@Medachod5 жыл бұрын
Those cuts of violence were never finished, meaning nobody but Disney has them, assuming they weren't thrown out.
@JJdaPK Жыл бұрын
This version is WAAAY better due to the simple fact that it gives Hen Wen a purpose in the story. The whole first half of the Black Cauldron is about protecting Hen Wen because she can find the Cauldron, yet in the actual movie one of the Fairfolk just randomly offers up the Cauldron's location and Hen Wen doesn't do anything. This version also gives Taran and Elionwy a bit more of an interesting dynamic with them debating the best course of action in how to handle the cauldron.

Although it's easy to put the blame on Jeffrey Katzenberg, the truth is that there were problems even before he went on board. Seriously, if you look it up the team faced production problems before Katzenberg was hired. Then you also have the fact that the run time was too short to adapt the two books they used. Speaking of which, the reason Disney adapted only the first two books is because at the time they abhorred the notion of sequels, so I read anyway. They should have just had each movie represent one of the books. Interestingly enough, I read that Disney still owns the rights to those books.
@andrewvickers19927 жыл бұрын
jacoblgames However the reason he gets blame is because he purposely deleted some scenes, particularly during the Cauldron Born scene, and these cuts happened at last minute too! (an early trailer showed a small portion that was deleted featuring a skeleton during the part of the climax where the Cauldron Born attack the Horned King's human guards)
@SirBlackReeds7 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, although they should have taken the "10 minutes" demand more seriously.
@queen_boo6 жыл бұрын
jacoblgames : Jeffery Katzenberg should've let the artist do as they needed. I know one person (whom I will leave nameless) who worked on this film. They say the footage wouldn't have changed anything like "if I never knew you" in Pocahontas or if they would've cut "part of your world" from mermaid. The 2 points I see are this. 1st. Disney has the right to do whatever they want because its their property. 2nd. Give blame where blame is due and credit where it's due. JK butchered the heck out of a film that could've at the time been a welcomed walk away from musicals. Missing was a love story-ish feel. Yet Taran and Eilonwy did share a kiss in trickery by Gurgi lol. This film needed a chance to appeal to its proper audience and not be presented as a kid friendly film.. Thanks for letting me vent a bit, but I do enjoy this film a lot.

@@queen_boo A Blu-Ray containing whatever animation they have left, being cut into a true "final" version of the film would be amazing, especially since it seems like the Cauldron Born sequence was finished, given it was screened in front of a bunch of children and they all ran away in fear. If this was cut with that, then there's still a minute-minute and a half of footage missing. There was nothing innapropriate about this scene either, it must have been cut for budget reasons.

I believe this is the most well known amount of cuts present in the film for the 25th Anniversary release, well there are still minor things, such as more violence, the melting scene and so on that were never finished. But, know this, every cut for the film was initially the result of certain graphic content being shaved, but at one point, someone was told to shave off ten minutes, said they could only manage six and the same person forced them to shave twelve instead. In other words, six _more_ minutes, purely for no reason. If you want to know more, watch this video series that goes over it. The first part: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIPdlYmwmrR1p80
